Apparatus for automatically interrupting after a predetermined time the supply of gas to a household cooking appliance. The present invention relates to an apparatus which makes it possible to stop automatically after a predetermined time the arrival of gas in uuu household cooking appliance such as a gas stove or stove.
This apparatus comprises a clockwork mechanism controlled by a. spring, the mobile end of which is connected to a pivot shaft so integral with a movable index in front of a graduated dial, said shaft controlling, on the one hand, the clockwork mechanism, and, on the other hand, an interposed valve on the gas inlet pipe.
This device is mainly useful for the household. Indeed, some dishes such as roasts, soufflés or pasta require a determined cooking time. The purpose of the appliance is to allow the housewife to go about other occupations without fear that the, food will burn, the gas supply being automatically cut off at the end of the desired time. . In addition, the purpose of the device is to avoid any risk of leakage, and therefore any danger of poisoning, and it therefore constitutes a safety device. against gas accidents.
A warning device can be added to the appliance to indicate, at the appropriate time, that the desired cooking time has been reached or is about to be reached. The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the apparatus forming the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a front view of the apparatus. Fig. 2 is. a section along II-II of fig.1.
Fig. 3 shows a larger scale bell warning device.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a clamp on a larger scale.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view of a detail of the warning device.
As shown in the drawing, the apparatus comprises a housing 1 enclosing the mechanism and capable of being fixed by necks, linked to the gas inlet pipe 2a and to the flexible connecting pipe 2b . These collars which are placed the first on one side of the valve 3 and the second on the other side, each consist of a half = collar 4 with crenellated jaw 'which is riveted to the housing 1,
and a half collar 5 which also has a crenellated jaw and which is pivotally mounted at 6 on the half-collar 4, the end 5a of the half-collar 5 passing through a slot 7 formed in the half-collar 4. A spring coil 8 is arranged around the attachment end of the half-collar 4, between the said housing wall 1 and the half-collar 5, When the half-collar 5 is in the open position, we see, at the fig. 4, that the spring 8 tends to maintain the half-collar in this position.
When the half-collar 5 is brought into the closed position, the end 5a of this half-collar forms a lever to push back the spring 8 and engages in -là, slot 7. At the end: the movement, the spring relaxes and presses on the outer wall of the half-collar 5, which maintains it in the closed position. To return it to its initial opening position, the spring must be compressed.
The mechanism housed in the housing 1 com takes a spring 9, one end of which is fixed to the housing while the other is fixed to a shaft 10 pivotally mounted in this housing. This spring 9 is mounted so as to tend to rotate the shaft 10 clockwise (vile in the direction of arrow A).
The shaft 10 passes through the housing 1 and carries at its outer end an index 11 movable in front of a dial 12 graduated in minutes and fixed to the housing 1. The shaft 10 carries a finger 13 capable of abutting, during the rotation of the tree, against a nipple. 14 fixed to the housing, which stops the rotation of said shaft, the spring 9 being still tensioned. In this stop position, the index 11 is located at a certain angular distance of the order of 20 to 25 beyond the position corresponding to the zero or closed indication (fig.1).
On the shaft 10 is freely pivotally mounted a toothed wheel 15 which drives the exhaust mechanism (not shown). A ratchet wheel 16 of twenty teeth fixed on the shaft 10 cooperates with three pawls carried by the wheel 15, each of the pawls engaging in turn with the ratchet wheel, so that the index 11 can be put. opposite any one of the graduations of the dial 12: The shaft 10 rotates in a pivot engaged in the thickness of the bottom of a barrel 17 which is pivotally mounted in the case.
This ba rillet is connected to the shaft 10 by a spring housed in said barrel and wound so as to tend to rotate the barrel with respect to the shaft in an anti-clockwise direction. The shaft 10 carries a finger or pin 18 which meets a plane 19 riveted to the. barrel, the spring of this dër = nier being still tensioned, during the rotation of the shaft.
When this contact is made, which occurs when the index 11 reaches the zero position, the shaft then drives the barrel in rotation in the direction of clockwise.
The barrel 17 is connected by a shaft 20 to a fork 21 intended to engage the key for operating the valve 3 of the pipe, the opening of which is effected by rotating this key in the opposite direction to that of clockwise . A leaf spring 22 is attached to one of the spouts of the. fork and its ends curved inward to ensure correct attachment of the fork to the operating key.
A warning device is provided comprising a toothed sector 23 pivotally mounted on the shaft 20 and disposed between the barrel 17 and the rear plate of the housing. This sector is engaged with a pinion 24 whose axis is integral with a bar 25 bearing. two mallets 26 which, during the pivoting of the sector, strike the side wall of the housing.
The shoe 19 carried by the barrel is engaged in a slot 27 formed in the thickness of the sector and extending over a certain angle, the position of this slot being such that, when the valve is opened, the shoe. 19 comes up against the bottom of the. light and rotates the sector 23 against the action of a spring 28 (fig. 3).
To maintain the sector 23 in the armed position, a leaf spring 29 is provided, one end of which is fixed to the outer wall of the housing 1, its other end being curved and passing through a slot 30 provided for this purpose in the wall of the housing. casing so as to be able to come and form a stop for the lateral face of the sector, as seen in figs 3 and 5. On the blade 29 is fixed a part of small width forming a cam 31 which passes through an opening 32 of the casing and s' engages in the light 27.
The apparatus described operates in the following manner, assuming that it is in place and that the valve is in the closed position, the index 11 being in the position shown in fig. 1. The index 11 is placed in front of the graduation corresponding to the desired cooking time. This movement has the effect, on the one hand, of increasing the tension of the spring 9, the finger 13 leaving the stud 14, and, on the other hand, of rotating the barrel 17, therefore the operating key, under the effect of the spring of the barrel, the shoe 19 following the finger 18 around this movement.
When the key is in the. position or green, the barrel 17 can no longer rotate and the spring of this barrel then sees its tension increase due to the continued pivoting of the shaft 10. In addition, the shoe 19 arms the toothed sector 23. When the index is released, the spring 9 and that housed in the barrel 17 both tend to return the shaft 10 to its initial position, this return movement being controlled by the. timer controlled by toothed wheel 15. The index 11 moving in front of dial 12 indicates the remaining cooking time at any time.
When the index 11 arrives in front of the zero position or in the vicinity of this position, the finger 18 comes into contact with the shoe 19, so that the pivoting of the shaft 10 then drives that of the barrel, and therefore of the key of the cylinder. ro = binet, pivoting. only taking place under the action of the spring 9.
Shortly before the valve is completely closed, the shoe 19 acting on the cam 31 pushes the blade 29, the end of which releases the sector 23. The latter then returns to its rest position under the action of the spring. 28 by ringing the bell.
When the valve is completely closed, the finger 13 abuts against the stud 14, which stops the pivoting of the shaft 10, the index 11 then occupying the. position shown in fig.1.
The shaft 10 could be formed in two parts, one carrying the wheels 1: 5 and 16 and being connected to the barrel 17 while the other is connected to the spring 9 and carries the index 11, these two parts being able to at will be united and dissociated. Under these conditions, it is possible by separating the two parts of the shaft either to reduce the cooking time, or even to immediately close the tap.
