I>con-</I> duite d'aspiration d'air 106.
Process for melting metal objects under pressure and a machine for carrying out said process. The present invention relates to a process for melting metal objects under pressure, of the kind described in main patent No. 302219, that is to say a process in which a charge (the molten metal is phase by an injection piston in a mold giving the final shape to the object, the injection being carried out in two phases, the first injection phase being carried out at a slower speed than the second, so that the The air contained in the injection cylinder can be evacuated in its greater part during the first phase, the complete filling of the mold being carried out by the second injection phase.
The process according to the invention tends to further improve the results obtained by applying the process described in the main patent N 302219 already cited. It is characterized by the fact that after filling the injection cylinder, at the end of the first phase, a secondary phase of suction of the air contained in the mold is automatically controlled, the phase actual injection of the clack metal the mold being controlled, also automatically, successively to the air suction phase.
The invention also relates to an injection machine of the type comprising a frame on which is fixed a mold, an injection cylinder, an injection piston in connection with a motor mechanism driving it in motion> a control device automatic control of said mechanism, controlling each injection movement in two distinct main phases, a first during which a relatively slow movement is imparted to the piston to allow the air held in the injection cylinder to escape per, a second phase consisting of a rapid displacement of the piston causing the actual injection of the metal into the mold, a suction pump being provided to suction,
already before the second injection phase, the air contained in the mold.
The use for high pressure casting of metal objects from injection machines, in which the air contained in the mold is sucked before the actual injection phase, has not been generalized because of the difficulties encountered during their operation.
I7n effect, in such machines, the suction phase of the air contained in the mold must be engaged and. stopped with great precision compared to the phase itself. said molten metal injection, otherwise the latter risks reaching the air suction pump.
The pressure melting machine according to the invention avoids these difficulties. It is characterized by the fact that it comprises a device for detecting the absolute pressure prevailing in the mold, allowing the engagement of the second rapid injection phase only when a determined vacuum has been obtained in the mold. , the suction line for the air contained in the mold being controlled by a valve automatically controlling the closing of the air outlet of the mold before the molten metal comes into contact with it.
The appended drawing represents, schematically and by way of example, two embodiments of the machine according to the invention.

Fig. 4 is an overall view, from inside the mold, of the movable shell. Fig. 5 is a diagram of the time elapsing during an injection movement. This diagram also shows the curve of the speed variations as a function of the stroke of the injection piston.
Fig. 6 is an explanatory diagram of the different phases occurring during an injection movement.
Fig. 7 is a partial diagram of a second embodiment.
With reference to FIG. 1, this machine comprises a frame 60, on which is fixed a mold 61, formed of two shells 62 and 63. A locking mechanism maintains tight against each other the two shells of the mold 61. In the form of 'execution shown, this mechanism comprises a hydraulically controlled piston 64, acting on a rod 65, by means of knee pads 66, and intended to apply a clamping piece 67 against the shell 62, to keep the latter in contact with the shell 63. The clamping part 67 is supported by rods 68 running smoothly in bearings 69 fixed on the left part of the frame of the machine.
An injection cylinder 70 is housed in the straight part of the frame 60. An injection piston 71 is able to slide in this cylinder 70 under the action of a motor mechanism. In the particular case, this motor mechanism consists of a working piston 72, controlled by a pressurized liquid. This piston 72 moves under the action of the liquid under pressure in a cylinder 73 integral with the base 75 of the machine by a support 76.
The pressurized liquid intended for the actuation of the pistons 64 and 72 is supplied by a pump 77 driven by its motor 78. This pump sucks the liquid from a reservoir 79 and delivers it to a hydraulic circuit 80 for general supply. of the machine.
On this hydraulic circuit 80 is interposed a block of control valves 81, comprising four valves 82, 83, 84, 85 which are all actuated from a single actuator 86. The hydraulic circuit 80 comprises a pipe. 8 7 for supplying the pressurized liquid to the block 81. A duct 88 brings the pressurized liquid from the block 81 to the cylinder 73 on the side of the. active face of the piston 72. On this pipe 88 is interposed a control valve 89, = whose needle 90 is actuated. using a pneumatic servo motor 91.
This servomotor 91 is supplied with compressed air by a duct 92 and a four-way valve 93, with electromagnetic control, determines the displacement. in one direction or the other of the servomotor 91 determining the closing or opening of the. valve 89. The valve 93 is, in fact., provided with two solenoids 93a and 93b. The energization of the solenoid 93ca by an electric current causes the opening of the. valve 89, while the excitation of solenoid 93b causes it to close.
It should be noted however that after having ordered an opening or closing movement of the valve 89, the stopping of the current excitation. one or the other of the solenoids 93a and. 93b does not cause any displacement in an intermediate position of the piston of the servomotor 91. On the contrary, when the excitation current of one of the solenoids is cut off, the valve 89 is. hand held in the position where the servo motor 91 feeds during the energization of said solenoid. A bypass 94 is furthermore placed in the pipe 88 to allow a small flow of pressurized liquid to flow therethrough, without being subjected to the influence of the valve 89.
This bypass 94 is controlled by a regulating valve 95. A regulating valve 96 is, moreover, placed in the pipe 88, near the cylinder 73.
The supply of pressurized liquid to the cylinder 73, via the pipe 88, is intended to control the first part of each injection movement of the piston 72. This first part of the injection movement is at speed. scaled down. The second part of the movement, injection, which must take place at high speed, is controlled from another circuit. liquid supply under pressure. This last supply circuit is independent of the unit 81. It comprises a pipe 97, controlled by a valve 98 of the same type as the valve 89. In fact, the needle 99 of this valve is also controlled by a servomotor. pneumatic 100, the movements of which in the direction of opening respectively closing of the needle 99 are determined by the energization of a solenoid 100a, respectively 100b.
An air-cushion accumulator 101 is furthermore placed in the pipe 97, as close as possible to the valve 98, to avoid water hammer.
It should be noted, moreover, that it is from this pipe 97 that the return movements of the piston 72 and of the plunger 64 are controlled. In fact, a pipe 102 is connected to the cylinder 73, from way to. bring the pressurized liquid to the left face of the piston 72. Another pipe 103 brings the pressurized liquid to the right side of the piston 64, to control the opening movement of the machine, causing the two to move apart. shells 62 and 63 of the mold.
This machine is, moreover, provided with an air suction pump 104, driven by an electric motor 105, intended to suck the air contained in the mold 61 before the rapid injection of the molten metal. This pump 104 is connected to the shell 62 by an air suction line 106, controlled by an electromagnetically controlled valve 107.
A device for detecting the absolute pressure prevailing in the mold is also provided. This detector unit consists of a contact meter 108, connected to the conduit 106.
It is. Note, moreover, that a telescopic device 109 allows the lengthening or shortening of the pipe 106 during the closing or opening movements of the machine.
Near the control unit 81 is mounted a double contactor 110 for general control of an electrical circuit for controlling the valves 89 and 98. The machine is generally supplied with electric current via terminals 111. Contactor 110 is arranged so that, when the body of my work 86 is in position 1, corresponding to the rest position, its terminal 112u allows the supply of the solenoids 93a. and 100b, which determines the opening of the. valve 89 and closing the valve. 98.
This machine comprises, on the other hand, a transformer 113, the primary of which is supplied from the terminals 111. The secondary of this transformer supplies a circuit 114 with current at low voltage, to which a relay 115 is connected in series, the contact pressure gauge 108 and a contact electrode detec-t.eur device 116. This detector device 116 constitutes a switch, intended to be closed by the molten metal when it completely fills the injection cylinder 70.
An interrupter 117 allows. short-circuiting the positive device 116 in the event that the use of the latter is not desired or impossible.
A contactor 118 is placed near the rod 119 connecting the two pistons 71 and 72. This contactor 118 is intended to be actuated by a finger 120, fixed in an adjustable manner on the rod 119, This contactor 118 controls a circuit 121 supplied with current from terminal 1.12b of contactor 110, terminal which is only energized when the actuator 86 is in position 4, that is to say in the movement control position injection of the machine. This contactor 118 controls the closing of the valve 89, via the conductor 122, on the one hand, and, on the other hand, controls the opening of the electromagnetic valve 107 for controlling the suction.
On this circuit 121 is connected an interrupter 123, controlled by the relay 115. This switch 123 controls, when its closure and through the conductor 124 and the solenoid 100a, the opening (the the valve 98.
It should be noted, on the other hand, that to avoid any risk of aspiration of particles of molten metal in the pipe 106, at the end (the air suction phase, an exhaust valve 125 is arranged in the shell 62, in the immediate vicinity of the recess whose shape corresponds to that of the objects to be melted.
This valve 125, which is shown on a larger scale in FIGS. 2 and 3, automatically controls the closing of the air outlet 126 of the mold, before the molten metal comes into contact with it. The principle of operation of such a valve has been described in detail in patent No. 302974 of the same inventor. However, for the sake of clarity of the description, this valve will be described again here in general terms.
As shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the valve 125 is constituted by a piston sliding smoothly in a bore 127 of the shell 62. This piston has a groove 128, allowing the free passage of air from the mold to the ori fice 126, when the piston has come to the full stop to the right with respect to FIG. 2. The closing movement, that is to say the displacement to the left of the valve 125, is controlled by a piston 129 which also slides in a bore 130 of the shell 62. The piston 129 and the valve. 125 are linked to each other by a lever 131, articulated at 132 on a support 133 fixed in the shell 62. This piston 129 is intended to be actuated by the molten metal itself, when the mold has been completed.
In fact, as the mold is filled, the air which could still be in the latter escapes through a channel 134 leading to the seat of the valve 125. A similar channel, 135, terminates in the housing. 136 where the piston 129 is located. However, this channel 135 is arranged so as to be filled with the molten metal before the latter has yet been able to engage in the channel 134. Also, as soon as the molten metal exerts pressure on the piston 129, the latter moves to the left with respect to FIG. 2, which causes the closing movement of the valve 125.
Fig. 4 shows how the valve 125 may be disposed with respect to the shape of the shell 62. As can be seen in this figure, the channel 135 is branched off the molten metal supply channel in the form F, while channel 134 is plugged in from said form According to. arrangement shown in fig. q, the molten metal can therefore order the closing of the valve 125 before the form F has been completely filled.
This fig. 4 also shows the position occupied by the electrode 116 in the shell 62. The operation of the machine described with reference to FIGS. 1 to 4 is the following: After having poured a measure of molten metal in cylinder 70, through opening 70a, the user of the machine actuates the operating member 86 in the direction of arrow 1. In position 1 of the actuator 86.
the ,, valves 82 and 83 chu block 81 are closed and the valves 84 and. 85 are open; contactor 1.10 supplies current to terminal <I> 7 </I> 12r and, therefore, valve1 is open and valve 98 is closed. As soon as the switch 86 reaches position 2, <B> the </B> valves 81- and 85 close- and the contactor 110 moves away from terminal 712a. However,
despite this break in current cl.'excitation of solenoids 93a and 1_00b, valve ç9 remains or green and valve <B> 98 </B> remains closed. In position 2, the mold is. still open and the injection piston 71 is still in the retracted position. As soon as position 3 is reached by the organ 86, the valve 82 opens, while the valve 83 still remains closed.
As the valves 84 and 85 are kept closed, (the liquid under pressure passes from the line 87 through the valve 82, to act against the udder 64 which causes the closing of the machine, that is to say the tightening. of the two mold shells 62 and 63 against each other. In this position 3, the valve 89 is always open and the valve 98 closed. The injection piston 71 is still in the retracted position.
When the member 86 arrives in position 4, the valves 82 and 83 are open and the valves 84 and 85 closed. Furthermore, contactor 110 comes into contact with terminal 112b which supplies current to circuit 121.
Due to the key fact the opening of the valve 83, the pressurized liquid, coming from the line 87, passes through the line 88 and is divided into two streams, one, of high flow, passing through the valve 89 , and the other, of low flow, passing through the valve 95 of the bypass 94. These two fluid streams are then regulated by the regulating valve 96, the position of which thus determines the first phase of slow injection. piston 71. During this first main phase of slow injection, piston 71 moves from Al to B with respect to the diagram shown in FIG. 6.
The arrival of the piston 71 at point B dle its stroke (71b) corresponds to the point of entry into contact of the finger 120 with the contactor 118, which causes the closing of the valve 89, via the conductor 122 and the solenoid 93b, and the opening of the valve 107 triggering the secondary air suction phase.
The low flow rate of liquid flowing through the bypass 94 continues to move, at slow speed, the piston 71 in the direction of the mold. This race at a slower speed than that of the first phase (A to B) is represented by the distance B to C on the wire-. 6. During this slow-speed movement of the piston 71, the absolute pressure drops in the mold and as soon as it reaches a determined value, the pressure gauge 108 lets a current flow through the low-voltage circuit 114. However, it It should be noted that this current can only flow if the molten metal has reached the level of the electrode detector 116.
It is therefore necessary that both the detector 116 and the pressure gauge 108 are in the engaged position, so that a current can flow in the circuit 114 and thus cause the excitation of the relay 115. As soon as this relay 115 is energized, the switch 123 closes, which causes, through the intermediary of the conductor 124 and the solenoid 100a, the opening of the valve 98.
The pressurized fluid, coming from the pipe 97, then passes through the valve 98, as well as a control valve 137, and causes a second main phase of rapid injection of the molten metal into the mold. During this rapid injection phase, the piston 71 moves from C to D: on the diagram shown in FIG. 6 (position 71c and 71d of udder 71). As soon as the molten metal acts on the piston 129, it causes the closure of the exhaust valve 125, which prevents any leakage of metal particles into the <I> </I> suction pipe. air 106.
(The references Ai, Bl, Cl, Dl, represented in the diagram shown in fig. 6, indicate the different successive levels of the molten metal, in the injection cylinder 70 and in the form I ', levels corresponding to the positions 71a , 71b, <I> 71c, 71d </I> of the piston 71.) The part is thus formed and the machine can be opened. This opening is caused by returning the actuator 86 to position 1.
Indeed, during the return movement to position 3, then to position 2, the valve 89 remains closed and the valve 98 remains open. The piston 71 is therefore maintained under pressure and the shells 62 and 63 remain tight against one another. As soon as the actuator 86 reaches. in position 1, valves 82 and 83 are closed and valves 84 and 85 are open. On the other hand, the entry into contact of the contactor 110 with the terminal 112a causes the opening of the valve 89 and the closing of the valve 98.
It therefore follows that the pressurized liquid, coming from the pipe 97, acts, on the one hand, on the piston 72 to bring it back to the right with respect to FIG. 1 and, on the other hand, on the piston 64 to bring it back to the left, causing the mold to open, allowing the finished part to be extracted therefrom. These return movements of the pistons 64 and 72 are allowed by the escape of the liquid acting on their active face, through the valve 84, respectively 85, towards the tank 79.
In fig. 5 are shown the curve dlu time as a function of the path of the injection piston as well as the curve of the speed as a function of the path of the injection piston.
The machine according to the second embodiment, shown in FIG. 7, differs mainly from the first by its positive control device for the closing of the air evacuation orifice of the mold 61. This machine therefore comprises a hydraulic control installation similar to that of the first form of execution and intended for the use of hardened molds, in which it is no longer possible to mount an automatic valve such as the valve 125 of the machine according to fig. 1 to 4. In fact, in this second machine, one of the holes 139 made for the extractors 140 is used as an air outlet passage from the mold. The air exhaust valve is constituted by a piston 125a of similar shape to that of the piston constituting the valve 125.
The control of this valve 125a. is effected by an electromagnet 141, via a lever 142, articulated at 143 on the shell 62. A spring 144 tends to maintain the valve 125u in the open position, when the electromagnet is not not traversed by a current. On the other hand, as soon as the electromagnet. is excited, it attracts against it a frame 145, articulated at 146 to the lever 142, against the action of the spring 144, which closes the wise air outlet of the mold. A double contactor 147 is arranged between the pistons 71 and 72 of the machine to be controlled automatically by the rod 119 connecting these two pistons. A finger 120, fixed in an adjustable manner on the rod 119, is provided for this purpose. In this machine, the electric current is supplied via terminals 148.
The valves 89 and 98 of the latter machine have been shown in a very simplified manner in this figure; however, these work in a similar fashion to the first form of execution.
The machine according to the second embodiment operates similarly to the first, that is to say that in position 1 of the actuator 86 (not shown in fig. 7). , the valve 89 is kept open by an electric current coming from the terminals 148 and which passes through the contactor 147 to energize the electromagnet 149, keeping the valve 89 open. On the other hand, no current circulates in the electromagnet 150 controlling the valve 98.
The closing of the machine, that is to say the bringing together of the two shells 62 and 63 of the mold, is effected, as for the first embodiment, by bringing the maneuvering member 86 to position 3. As soon as the actuator is brought to position 4, pressurized liquid passes through the valve 89 to act against the piston 72 and move the latter to the left with respect to FIG. 7. The adjustment valve 96, not shown, allows a liquid flow rate to pass determining the first main phase of slow injection of the machine.
As soon as the finger 120 has actuated the switch 147 and brought it to the position indicated in dotted lines in FIG. 7, the excitation of the electromagnet 149 ceases and the valve 89 closes. .1 at this time, either the piston 72 can continue to advance at very low speed, in the case where a low flow of liquid can occur, for example through a bypass of the type called bypass 91 of the bed fig. 1, or the piston 72 is immobilized. In the position shown in dotted lines in FIG. 7, the contactor 117 engages,
pitr]. 'intermediate the -conductor 151, the opening of the reetromagnetic control valve 107, initiating the phase of aspiration of the inacliine. As soon as the absolute pressure in the mold has reached a value determined on the manometer 108 by the contact terminal 1522, the said manometer 108 allows a current to flow in the conductor 153, causing the excitation of the electricity. ro-ainiant 141.
Simultaneously, the manometer 108 allows a current to flow in its conductor 154 exciting the electromagnet 150. In other words, as soon as a vacuum of a defined degree has been obtained in the mold, the valve 98 opens. , under the action of its electro-magnet 150, and the exhaust valve 125a closes simultaneously under the action of its control electromagnet 141. The opening (the valve 98 therefore causes the engagement of the machine rapid injection phase.
As soon as this rapid injection phase is completed, the actuator 86 can be returned to position 1 to cause the return to the withdrawn position of the pistons 71 and 72 and the separation of the two shells 62 and 63 of the mold. During these shells spacing movements, the extractors 140 push the casting out of the form.
The machine according to the second embodiment, shown in FIG. 7, is somewhat simplified in construction compared to that of FIG. 1, in that the valves 89 and 98 are not controlled by the intermediary of pneumatic actuators, but directly by means of electromagnets. Furthermore, this simplified machine does not include an electrode detector device 116. However, the operation of this machine is in its large vines similar to that of the machine according to the first embodiment.
The two embodiments of the injection machine described with reference to the drawing applied more particularly to so-called cold room injection machines. However, it is understood that the method described could just as easily be applied to so-called hot chamber injection machines.
