Frame especially for bicycles, tandems or mopeds. Despite the tires that line the rims of the wheels of bicycles, tandems, bicycle motors, etc., the shocks of the road are only partially absorbed and are nevertheless felt by the cyclist who, to mitigate the effect, avoids to fully inflate said tires, which results in a larger bearing surface for it, hence resistance to advancement and, consequently, additional fatigue.
To obviate this. Conveniently, it has been designed an elastic frame for bicycles, tandems, bicycle-motors, etc., established in two parts liable to play with each other under the effect. com bined from the impact and weight of the cyclist.
The drawing represents, at. by way of example, one embodiment of the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 shows, on a reduced scale, an overview of an elastic frame of a bicycle.
Fig. 2 shows, on a larger scale, an elevational view of the cut-out and the articulation of the horizontal tube of the frame. The phantom line shows a position of the front part of the tube during deformation of the shock absorbing frame.
lia fig. : i shows a plan view corresponding to fig. 2.
Fig. 4 shows the elastic junction of the two parts of the interrupted tube connecting the crankset to the steering tube, in the case of the frame in the normal position and not subjected to a force or a deforming shock.
Fig. 5 shows the elastic junction of the two parts of the interrupted tube connecting the crankset to the steering tube, in the event of a deformation of the frame absorbing a shock, which produces a compression of the coil spring and a separation between the frustoconical part and the intermediate span.
This elastic frame has the following overall arrangement. At A is the cut-off of the horizontal tube of the frame with an articulation axis C allowing rotation of the front part relative to the rear part according to fig. 1. At E is the cut of the tube with the elastic junction of the two parts of said tube connecting the crankset to the steering tube. P represents the resultant of the weight of the cyclist who is exerted on the saddle, on the pedals and on the handlebars. The reactions P1 and P = of the front and rear wheels balance the. force P.
The articulation 21 is made up of two parts, namely: 1 The. Piece Al with a pin B1 pierced by too Tl for the passage of the axis C.
2 The piece A2 having a slot B2 for engaging the pin B1, and a hole T2 intended to receive the axis C.
These two pieces are brazed inside two pieces of the cut tube that they serve to join and articulate. The elastic junction E consists essentially of the. rod El and the intermediate seat E2, each fixing on a part of the cut tube which connects the crankset to the steering tube 1 The. rod El has an adjusted and fixed eylindriqLie II bearing in the lower part of the tube and extended by a frustoconical part I, then by the cylindrical rod J terminated by Lin. thread E with a nut S.
? The intermediate bearing surface E = has a cylindrical part, the diameter of which is that of the tubes to be joined. Inside it has a frustoconical bore corresponding to the frustoconical part 1 of the rod El. A threaded bearing L is screwed into the prison JI reported and brazed in the upper part of the cut tube and makes it possible to firmly maintain the intermediate bearing surface E2 with said part of the tube. This arrangement of the cone, including the. generator is substantially tangential to the widening arc of the frame, is very important.
A coil spring R threaded onto the rod J and held by the nut S, completes the assembly of the elastic junction device E that a pressure screw V allows the key to be put out of service at will by locking the frustoconical part I in his home.
This elastic frame tends to flex under the effect of the weight of the cyclist, the resultant P of which is obviously placed between the vertical reactions Pl and P2 of the two wheels, while the front part of the bicycle tends to rotate around the axis of articulation C in the direction of the arrow P by making play the elasticity of the spring to. flange R, due to the opening or slight separation between two parts of the pedal-steering tube.
The same effect tends to occur around the average deformation previously acquired when an impact occurs on one or the other wheel, under the force of said shock, the opening of the two parts of the crank tube- steering s 'accentuates and the compression of the res coil R increases between the intermediate bearing E2 fixed on the upper part of the -tube and the nut S integral with the. El rod fixed sir the lower part of the tube, in other words, the force of the impact.
is absorbed by the coil spring which receives it via the frame designed for this purpose, and it is no longer unpleasantly felt by the cyclist.
It is understood that to place this device on an already existing one-piece ordinary frame. Without modifying its general appearance, the pedal-steering tube must be shortened by a length equal to that of the intermediate seat E2, thread not included.
It should be noted that in the case where E is seen to be the foot of the perpendicular to the axis of articulation C on the tube carrying the seal. elastic E, the tronconi part that I, intended to be polished to allow in the general case the necessary play, could be replaced by a cylinder. .
