Rust removal and anti-rust agents. For the removal of a rust layer and for the subsequent application of a rust protection layer on iron or steel parts, several special operations are usually required. First, the rust layer has to be removed, for example using a wire brush, a sandblast or a chemically acting rust remover.
This is followed - if necessary after further cleaning of the iron or steel parts to be treated - the application of a rust protection agent such as a primer coat of lead-red lead paint. A parquet or lacquer coating is then usually applied to the rust protection agent. The required labor and also the material consumption is thus relatively high.
The present invention of Dr. Alexander Winterberg from Prague is now referring to a rust remover and rust protection agent, which is characterized by a liquid that contains a mixture of phosphorus compounds and urea-formaldehyde condensates, with the purpose of eliminating the briefly outlined inadequacies that arise in the practical implementation of the rust removal with the help of the previously known means.
Embodiments of the present invention are tert erläu below. Ammonium lactate is preferably also added to the liquid containing phosphorus compounds and urea-formaldehyde condensates, the phosphorus compounds then consisting of a mixture of phosphoric acids containing orthophosphoric acid. The liquid is best an aqueous solution of the substances mentioned.
A liquid consisting of 81.8 parts of water, 0.2 parts of ammonium lactate, 3 parts of urea-formaldehyde condensates and 15 parts of the above-mentioned mixture of phosphoric acids is very suitable.
Such a liquid now acts both as a rust removal agent as well as an anti-rust agent. It can be applied directly to the untreated rust layer, for example with a brush or by spraying. Under the influence of the phosphorus compounds, the rust layer is chemically transformed into a rust protective layer without any additional ingredients or operations. The urea-formaldehyde condensates, which are initially still kept in solution by the ammonium lactate: settle on this protective layer and create a solid film-like coating.
Any pretreatment of the rust layer prior to the application of the new rust removal and rust protection agent is therefore not necessary, and it is clear that both the time required and the material consumption for a rust removal carried out is comparatively low. The anti-rust layer chemically produced from the rust layer with the new agent is also very resistant to acids, alkalis and salt water as well as to heat and cold.
Another particular advantage of the new agent is that it can be used both pigmented and unpigmented, depending on whether a certain color effect is to be achieved. If the new agent is mixed with color pigments, the anti-rust layer is formed directly in the color in question, so that the costs for the paint, which is usually applied subsequently, are also eliminated.
The new rust remover and anti-rust agent is conveniently produced in the following way: urea and formaldehyde are condensed and the condensate is distributed and dissolved in water. The amounts of phosphoric acids and ammonium lactate given above are introduced into this aqueous solution. The liquid obtained in this way can then be mixed with the pigments in the desired color and amount.
