Die Bewegungen des Fünfgelenk getriebes werden auf jeder Seite des Stuhles durch einen Führungslenker 252 gesteuert, dessen oberes Ende an der Stelle 2'5,4 am Trag gestell aasgelenkt ist. Jeder Führungslen ker 252 ist an seinem untern Ende starr mit dem Zwischenverbindungslenker 296 des Fünfgelenkgetriebe@s verbunden;

10 shows a side view of a further embodiment of an adjustable chair, with part of the side wall broken away, and FIG. 11 shows a side view of a further embodiment of a chair with part of the side wall broken away.
As shown in Fig. 1 and 2, the support frame 20 sits in the shape of a box, the side walls or Seitenrah men 22, 24 by a rear wall 26 and a front wall 28 are connected to each other. The armrests 3-0 consist of one piece with the support frame 20.
The rear end of the seat 3-2 is articulated on the backrest 34 at the point 36 aas. The backrest 34 has an extension 38 which extends downward beyond the pivot joint 36 connecting the backrest and the seat.
One end of a link link 40, which is located unge mately in the middle of the chair and is referred to below as the lower link link, is at .der point 42 at the center extension 38 of the backrest aasgelenken, and that The other end of this lower connecting link 40 is at the point 46 at the one end of a second connecting link 44 which is referred to below as the front connecting link. The other end of the front connecting link 44 is articulated at the point 48 on the seat 32.
The articulated interconnected parts, namely the extension 38 of the backrest, the connecting link pair or the articulated chain 40, 44 and the seat 32, thus form the movable elements of a multi-joint transmission, which is designed here as a four-joint transmission. This four-jointed gear is attached to the support frame 2'0 on the swivel joint 36, which connects the backrest and the seat, so that it can pivot about a single axis; the seat 32 with the backrest 34 connecting Drehzap fen 36 is arranged in a bore 50 of the support frame.
The movements of the moving elements of the four-bar linkage; are controlled by a guide link 58, the upper end of which is swingably attached to a transverse rod 54 seated on the support frame, and the lower end of which is articulated on the pair of connecting links at the joint 46 connecting the connecting links 40 and 44.
A footrest 56 is articulated at the point 58 on the front part of the seat 3'2. The movements of the footrest 6 are controlled by a control arm 60, one end of which is articulated at point 62 on the footrest and the other end of which is articulated at point 64 to an intermediate point of the guide arm 52. This control link 60 is passed through a cutout 6, 6 of the front wall 28 of the support frame.
The seat position of the movable elements, the chair is limited by the upper edge 68 of the support frame on which the seat occurs.
If the user of the chair leans the weight of his body against the backrest, he can easily swing the movable elements of the chair into a reclined position, for example in the outermost reclined position, which is shown in Fig. 1 with dashed lines. As mentioned above, during such a movement the guide arm 52 controls the movements of the elements 32, 3'8, 4.0, 44 of the four-bar linkage and the movements of the footrest 56 with the aid of the control arm 60.
The outermost reclined position is when the backrest 34 hits

one end of which is articulated to the footrest at point 162. In contrast to FIG. 1, however, the other end of the control arm 16.0 shown in FIG. 4 is articulated to the joint connection 146, which connects the guide arm 152 and a connecting arm of the four-bar linkage. .
The seat position of the movable parts of the chair shown in FIG. 4 is limited by the upper edge 168 of the front wall 128 of the support frame, while the outermost reclined position by the edge 170 of a recess in the rear wall 126 of the Support frame is limited.
The operation of the chair provided in FIG. 4 corresponds essentially to the operation of the chair according to FIG. The movements of the elements of the four-jointed transmission and the footrest are controlled by the guide arm 152.
In the embodiment of an adjustable chair shown in Fig. Ä, the support frame 220 is provided with side frames 22'2 and 224 which are connected to each other by transverse bars 2216 and 22) 8. If desired, the support frame 220 can be made from a single piece of tubing.
The seat 2 <B> 3 </B> 2 is articulated to the backrest 234 at the point 236, and the backrest has an extension 2: 3'8 projecting downward from the joint 23.6. On each side of the chair one end of a lower connecting link 240 is hinged to the extension 238 of the backrest at the point 242. The other end of each lower V connecting link 2'40 is at the point 245 at a between
Chengesehalten connecting link or link link 296 articulated. Also, on each side of the chair, the upper end of a front connecting link 244 is hinged at location 248 to the seat, and the lower end of each front connecting link 244 is hinged at location 247 to the intermediate connecting link 29i6.
The articulated parts, namely the lower extension 23! 8 of the backrest, the link chain formed by the lower connecting link 240, the intermediate connecting link 2; 96 and the front connecting link 244 and the seat 232 form in this way a universal joint drive, which is formed as a five-joint drive from go and is swingable on the support frame 220: the joint 2-36 connecting the backrest and the seat is attached.
The movements of the five-bar mechanism are controlled on each side of the chair by a guide arm 252, the upper end of which is articulated at the point 2'5,4 on the support frame. Each guide link 252 is rigidly connected at its lower end to the intermediate connecting link 296 of the five-bar linkage @ s;
In the embodiment shown in FIG. 5, the guide arm 252 consists of one piece with the intermediate connecting arm 296, but the guide arm and the intermediate connecting arm can of course also consist of two separate elements which are rigidly connected to one another by screws or the like.
On each side of the chair, one end of a control link 260 'is articulated at point 26'2 on a footrest 2% 5.6, which is articulated at point 25.8 on seat 2'32. The other end of each control link 260 is articulated at the point 265 on an extension 29'8 of the guide link 252 arranged outside the five-bar linkage.
This extension 298 is rigidly connected to the guide link 2512. According to FIG. 5, the extension 218 consists of one piece with the guide arm, but of course the extension 29'8 and the guide arm 2.52 can also be formed from two separate elements that are rigidly connected to one another by screws or the like.
Furthermore, the extension 29.8 need not necessarily, as shown in Figure 5, be aligned with the guide arm 25! 2; if a desired, the extension 2'98 can be attached to an intermediate point of the guide link and extend laterally.
The guide link 252 controls, as is readily understood, the movements of the elements of the five-bar linkage and the movements of the footrest. If the backrest is swiveled by: the pivot 2'36, the parts of the chair shown with fully drawn lines in the sitting position can be brought into a reclined position, for example in the outermost reclined position shown with dash-dotted lines ..
The seat position is limited by a stop 26'8, while the outermost position inclined to the back is limited by a stop 270. Both stops are attached to the support frame 220 in such a way that the extension 2'38 of the backrest or the backrest 2, 3'4 itself come to rest thereon.
Fig. 6 shows an armchair in which the support frame 320 with. Side frames 322 and 324 are provided, which are connected to one another .by cross bars 327 and 329. The side frames have armrests 330.
The seat 3, 32 is articulated at the point 33, 6 on the backrest 334. The articulated parts, namely the lower extension 338 of the backrest 334, the lower connecting link 340, the front connecting link 344 and the seat 332, form a four-link gear mechanism that is swingably attached to the support frame 320 at 336.
The movements of this four-bar linkage are controlled by the guide link 35.2, the upper end of which is articulated at the point 354 on a part 321 of the support frame 320, and the lower part of which is articulated at the point 343 on the lower connecting link 340. This guide link 3.52 has an extension 398 arranged outside of the four-bar linkage.
One end of the steering link 360 is linked to the extension 398 of the steering link at 3615, while the other end of the steering link 36.0 is linked to the footrest 356 at 362, which is at 358 at front part of SitzQs 332 is articulated.
Case; the movable elements of the Stuh les are articulated to one another in the manner described above and, for example, the backrest 3.34 after. is pivoted at the rear, the moving parts of the chair.,; from the seat rab, shown with full lines, into a reclined position, for example into the outermost reclined position shown with dash-dotted lines.
In this extreme, reclined position, which is limited by a stop 370 attached to the support frame and cooperating with the seat. see the backrest, seat and footrest in positions 334 ', 33i2', 356 '.
The moving parts of the chair can now be locked in any desired position by means of a locking device of the type shown in FIG. 3.
The extension 3.38 of the backrest, the lower connecting link 340, the front connecting link 344, the guide link 352 and its extension 3'98 and also .the control link 360 are provided with rows of holes or bores 300 in such a way that. the pivot pins or pins 34 \ 2 ', 343, 3M6, 354, 365, depending on your choice, can be inserted into different holes in order to change the effective length of the various elements of the chair,
This results in a change in the angular movements of the various elements of the chair.
If, for example, the movable elements of the chair are held in the outermost backward position by means of the locking device 372, the pivot 3.65 can be brought out of engagement with the extension 39.8 of the guide link and the control link 3.60 on which footrest 356 can be pivoted by hand into position 356 "so that it is aligned with your seat in position 332 '.
When the footrest is in this position 356 ", the hole at the right end of the row of holes in the control arm 360 is aligned with a hole in the support frame so that the pin 365" can be inserted into these aligned holes, whereby the footrest in the location 3516 "is recorded.
As shown in Fig. 6, the footrest 356 rests against a projecting stop 367 attached to the front end of the seat 332 when the footrest is in the position 3.56 "and is aligned with the seat Stop 367 prevents .that the footrest is inadvertently rotated beyond the position aligned with the seat when the seat is loaded by a user, .the locking device 372 is released and the pin 365 "is not yet out of the hole in the support frame is pulled out.
Furthermore, if the parts of the chair are in the seat position shown in full lines and after releasing the locking device 372 either the pin 342 or the pin 3.46 is removed, the seat 33.2 moves downward into a horizontal position 332 "', which is limited by a stop 302 attached to part 3.21 of the support frame 320. The backrest 334 can now be freely pivoted into the horizontal position 3-34"', which is limited by the 'cross member 3e27, and in which it is aligned with the horizontal seat 'in a straight line.
After the pin 365 is disengaged from the extension 398 of the guide arm and the control arm 3.60, the footrest can be freely pivoted into the horizontal position 356 "'so that it is aligned in a straight line with the horizontal seat.
When the footrest is in this position 3i56 "', the hole at the left end of the row of holes in the control arm 3, 60 is aligned with a hole in the support frame, so that the pin 36.5"' is inserted into the congruent holes can, whereby the footrest is held in this horizontal position 356 "': is.
In this way, the armchair shown in Fig. 6 can easily be converted into a bed-like piece of furniture.
If desired, the control handlebar 360 can also be formed as a telescopic part, which sits two sliding and adjustable parts connected to one another, so that the length of the control handlebar can be changed.
Fig. 7 shows an armchair in which the control device operates essentially on the same principle as the control device presented in Fig. 6 is. According to FIG. 7, however, the four-bar linkage 438, 440, 444, 432 is articulated on the support frame 420, at the point 437, and this joint connection 437 does not coincide with the joint connection 436 of the seat 43, 2 and the back gauge 434.
Furthermore, according to FIG. 7, the extension 438, the lower connecting link 440, the front connecting link 444, .the guide link 452 and the control link 460 are arranged in the center plane of the chair, while according to FIG. 6, these parts are arranged on both sides of the chair are. The footrest 456 is articulated at the point 458 on the seat 432. Instead of the connection of the footrest and the seat shown in FIG. 7, the footrest 456 can be connected to the seat 432 in the manner shown in FIG.
According to FIG. 9, the frame .des .Sitz 432 has a slot 433 for receiving the part. 435 is provided, which is articulated at the point 459 on the frame .des seat and is attached to the footrest 456 by screws 461. The construction shown in Fig. 9 allows the pivot 459 to be located at the highest possible point and eliminates any interference by the part 435 in the event that a panel is to be placed on the frame of the seat 432.
FIG. 8 schematically shows a control device. Which is to a certain extent similar to the device shown in FIG. 7, but in which the articulation of the guide arm and the support frame in one; above the seat 532 lying level is arranged. The imple mentation shown in Fig. 8 therefore makes the arrangement of a guide arm 552 on each side of the chair necessary. The two guide links 552 and their extensions 59; 8 are connected to one another by cross bars 543 and 565.
The crossbar 543 is rotatable in a bore of a single lower, in the middle of the chair arranged connecting link 540. One end of this lower connecting link 540 is articulated at the point 542 on the extension 538 of the backrest 534 arranged in the middle. while the other end of this lower Ver connecting link at the point 546 at one end of the front connecting link 544 is articulated, the other end of which is pivotable about a crossbar 548 of the seat 532.
One end of a single, centrally arranged control link 560 is attached to the crossbar 56 '; 5 swingable, while the other end of the control link 5, 60 is attached to a crossbar 562' of the footrest 556.
In the embodiment of a chair shown in FIG. 10, the seat 613; 2 is articulated at the point 636 on the backrest 634. : Similar to the embodiment shown in FIG. 5, the articulated parts, namely the extension 638 of the backrest, the lower connecting link 640, the intermediate connecting link 69, 6, the front connecting link 644 and the seat 632, a five-bar gear which is attached to the support frame 620 so as to be able to swing at point 63.6.
On each side of the chair, the upper end of each guide link 6'52 is articulated at the point 654 above the level of the seat on the support frame aas. The lower part of each guide link 6.52 is rigidly connected to the intermediate connecting link 696.
According to FIG. 10, the corresponding control arm 660 is on each side of the chair at 664
