EMI0001.0016
B. Vitamin A.
Process for the preparation of a condensation product. So far, no condensation products of optionally substituted propynyl halides and a, ß-unsaturated ketones have been described.
A process for the preparation of condensation products has now been found which is characterized in that propynyl halide or its substitution products are reacted with an α, β-unsaturated ketone by means of zinc in an inert solvent and the zinc compounds formed are hydrolytically decomposed.
The process is explained by the following formula:
EMI0001.0016
X = halogen R = hydrocarbon radical R ', R ", R"' = hydrogen or hydrocarbon radical, α, β-unsaturated ketones I and propynyl halides II, as used as starting materials, are known.
Zinc grit has proven its worth as a condensing agent, which is expediently activated prior to the reaction by heating with a little death. Preferably in counter. was an inert solvent worked; ether or a mixture of ether and benzene is suitable as such. The reaction is expediently carried out at about 40.degree.
To protect against the formation of perogyd, it is advisable to add antioxidants to the reaction solution. The resulting organic zinc compounds, which correspond to the general formula III, are hydrolytically decomposed in the customary manner using water, dilute acids or ammonium salt solutions. The condensation products obtained in this way are conveniently purified by distillation.
To remove unreacted α, β-unsaturated ketone, the crude condensation product can be treated with the usual ketone reagents, such as sodium bisulfite, Se micarbazide and the chloride of trimethylammonium - acetic acid - hydrazide, the α, β-unsaturated ketone being treated is then regenerated from it.
The compounds obtained according to the present process are used as inter mediate products, in particular for the construction of compounds with terpenoid carbon structure, such as. B. Vitamin A.
The subject of the present patent is a process for the preparation of a condensation product in which - one reacts a propynyl halide by means of zinc with methyl vinyl ketone and the resulting zinc compound is hydrolytically decomposed. It is advisable to do this in the presence of an inert solvent (e.g.
B. ethyl ether, which is optionally mixed with benzene) to work and the condensation at about 40 C, z. B. between 35 and 40 C, carry out.
It is recommended to add an antioxidant to the reaction solution. Example: 38.5 parts by weight of propynyl bromide, 65 parts by weight of methyl vinyl ketone, 10 parts by weight of benzene, 50 parts by weight of ether, 0.2 parts by weight of hydroquinone and 0,
1 part by weight of copper acetate acetic ester is added to 40 parts by weight of fine zinc grits activated with iodine, with vigorous stirring and with exclusion of moisture. The reaction mixture should be constantly refluxed by the heat of reaction. After the reaction has ended, boil for another 5 minutes and then cool to -5 C.
At this temperature, the zinc salt formed is decomposed with 235 parts by weight of 3N sulfuric acid and unused zinc is filtered off. The aqueous layer is separated and extracted twice more with ether. The combined ether solutions are washed with water, dried with sodium sulfate, stabilized with hydroquinone and distilled over a Raschig column. The residue is fractionated two to three times in vacuo.
25 to 26 parts by weight of 3-oxy-3-methyl-hexen- (1) -in- (5) are obtained as a colorless, easily mobile liquid with a boiling point of 48-50 C / 11 mm H9, nD = 1.460, d48 = 0 9155. Yield based on propynyl bromide 69-72%.
