In hig.
Electrolytic capacitor with one or more electrodes made of film-forming material, on which connecting elements made of film-forming material are arranged, and a method for producing such a capacitor. The invention relates to an electrolytic capacitor with one or more, made of film-forming material, the electrodes, on which connecting elements are arranged from film-forming material, and to a method for producing one of the capacitor types.
With electrolytic capacitors one always encounters the difficulty of obtaining a good connection from an electrode made of film-forming substance, i.e. a substance whose surface is covered with an insulating layer when the current passes from the electrode into the electrolyte, to an outer circuit.
On the one hand, account must be taken of the fact that that part of a connecting element that is inside a condenser vessel comes into contact with the electrolyte and therefore, if it is not made of film-forming material like the electrode itself, must be carefully insulated. in order to avoid unwanted passage of current, and on the other hand, it must be taken into account that the known film-forming metals cannot be soldered,
so that a simple metallic connection cannot be established. Attempts have already been made to remedy this problem by using a stranded wire as the connection part, which consists of aluminum on the side of the capacitor winding, while wires that can be easily soldered, e.g. B. made of copper. This design is difficult to manufacture because of the aluminum-copper connection.
It has also been proposed to fold an aluminum strip onto a copper wire and to embed the fold in a potting compound. Such a connection point is electrically and mechanically unreliable in the long term, since the electrolyte can, under certain circumstances, penetrate into the casting compound up to the connection point and destroy it through corrosion.
After the exfändung these disadvantages are fixed. Another advantage of the invention is that it offers the possibility of guiding a connection element in a gas-tight manner through a wall of the vessel surrounding the condenser.
The invention is characterized in that the part of the connection elements lying outside the area of the electrolyte is at least partially covered with a surface layer made of solderable material. The connecting element can therefore be used directly to establish the connection with the supply terminal of the capacitor, avoiding any intermediate welding point.
Even if the electrolyte would seep through to the part of the connection element that is provided with the solderable metal layer, no corrosion occurs in the present case because the solderable layer adheres tightly to the organ made of film-forming material, and so the electrolyte does not between these two layers can penetrate, as is the case with welded or riveted connections, in which there are always, albeit microscopically small, openings that allow the electrolyte to
to penetrate between the two different metals.
The invention is explained in more detail using a drawing, for example.
In hig. 1 shows the connection between a connecting element and an electrode film. 2 shows a cross section of a wound electrolytic capacitor in which the electrode connection element is insulated from the casing by means of a glass bead.
Fig. 3 shows a modification in which the organ is guided through a tube made of ceramic material. The capacitor presented in this figure contains a central electrode immersed in a wet electrolyte. The end of an anode foil to which a connecting element must be attached is denoted by 1. The organ consists of an aluminum wire with a diameter of about 1 mm, which is rolled flat at 2.
The fastening of the strip-shaped part 2 to the film 1 is carried out by partially punching the film and strip mate rials, whereupon the tongues formed in this way are bent over and pressed flat, ivie indicated at 3. These tongues can still be spot welded. At the end 4 of the cylindrical part of the organ, a solderable metal layer indicated by hatching is applied.
For this purpose, the connecting element was immersed in a silver oxide suspension over the length to be covered and the silver oxide was then reduced.
After the connection element has been attached to the anode film, the capacitor is wound, impregnated and formed to the required voltage. Then the roll denoted by 5 in FIG. 2 is arranged in a vessel 6. This vessel is made of aluminum. In order to insulate the condenser coil from the vessel wall, two rubber rings 7 are attached around this coil and an insulating plate 7a is attached to the bottom.
But it is also possible, please include first to attach the winding in a can made of insulating material and then introduce the whole thing into the vessel. The connection lug 8 for the cathode is attached to the vessel by means of a spot weld at 9.
A disk 10 made of paper impregnated with synthetic resin is placed on the roll, which serves as a base for the compound layer 11 and prevents the electrolyte from creeping up from the roll 5 to the silver-plated part 4 of the connecting element. Because the connecting element is completely smooth, it gives the compound a reliable seal. In order to be absolutely sure that the electrolyte in the present case does not creep up to the --silvered end, the non-silvered part of the organ should be coated with a layer of varnish.
This generally increases the adhesiveness of the compound.
A lid 12 made of tin-plated iron is arranged on the vessel 6, in which a gas-tight seal is obtained in that the edge 13 of the vessel is silver-plated and the vessel and lid are soldered to one another at 14. The gas-tight implementation of the connection element through the cover is achieved as follows: A ring 15 made of an iron-nickel cobalt alloy is fastened to the cover by means of the soldering compound 16. This ring carries a glass bead 17 in which a tube 18 made of solderable material is placed.
On this tube, the bent silver-plated end 4 of the connecting element is soldered gas-tight by means of the soldering compound 19 and an annular contact part 20 with a soldering lug 21 is fastened to it at the same time.
In Fig. 3, corresponding parts are provided with the same reference numerals. The Ge vat 6 can be attached to a chassis plate by means of the screw-threaded pin 30 arranged on the bottom. According to FIG. 2, a lid 12 is connected to the vessel. The vessel contains a central electrode 22, which consists of a number of coaxial cylinders and is built on a common base.
This electrode is carried by the rod-shaped supply conductor 23 made of aluminum, the end 4 of which is covered with a solderable metal layer in the manner described. The rod 23 is in turn carried by a tube 24 made of calite, which is partially metallized, as indicated by dashed lines, and is connected to the cover 12 in a gas-tight manner with the aid of the solder compound 25.
A lid-shaped part 26 provided with a soldering tongue 27 is firmly soldered to the metallized head surface of the calit tube and serves to increase the mechanical strength of the fastening of the rod 23 to the calit tube 24 with the aid of the soldering compound 28.
To prevent corrosion of the connecting organ at the electrolyte-air boundary, this organ is covered over a large part of its length with a chemically inert substance, e.g. B. paint, coated, as indicated at 31 is.
A groove 32 is made in the condenser wall and has various bores 33 sealed by means of a rubber band 34. This facility allows the evolved gases to escape. The capacitor formed is liquid and gas tight.
