Planetary gear changing device. The object of the present invention is to provide an improved epicyclic gear shifting device for the power transmission system of a motor vehicle and for other similar purposes.
The device of: the invention is characterized in that it comprises two multiplying mechanisms coupled -in series and controllable as desired,: each of said mechanisms being designed to give two speed ratios and comprising a driving member, a member trailed, transmission members capable of rotating with respect to one another, comprising.
solar and planetary gears engaged with each other. others and arranged between the driving member and the driven member, a one-way clutch to prevent rotation of one of the. organs, transmission in one direction and thus varying the speed ratio between the driving member and the driven member, - friction means controlled to avoid the relative rotation of the transmission members, in order to constitute a coupling in direct socket between the driving member and the driven member, a stationary member,
-and .additional friction means for coupling one of the transmission members to the stationary member when the uni-directional clutch is in action.
By the expression "multiplier mechanism" mentioned above, is meant a mechanism in which the driven member can be rotated at a speed equal to or slower than that of the driving member.
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, one embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 shows a sectional view of an epicyclic gear change device in accordance with the invention and intended for a motor vehicle.
Fig. 2 shows a section along 2-2, of FIG. 1.
In the example shown, the two reduction mechanisms a and b are mounted coaxially in a housing c, The first mechanism, a., Comprises a driving shaft d to which the movement can be transmitted by a hydraulic flywheel and a clutch and on which is fixed a sleeve chon e, a sun drive gear f being formed or fixed to one of the ends of this sleeve.
A further sleeve is mounted thereon on the sleeve e and a control sun gear h is formed or is attached to. the end of this sleeve y, the two sleeves being able to. rotate relative to each other. At the end of the driving shaft d, and next to the driving sun gear f is arranged another sleeve i acting as a trailing member of the mechanism and which is integral with or forms part of a support j for the planetary gears. On this support j are mounted pinion trains, planetary in, ri, in mesh with each other.
The pinion in I each of the trains meshes with the sun gear f drive and the other pin n of each of the trains meshes with the sun gear h, control.
The drive sun gear f can be of a diameter equal to, greater than or inferior to that of the pinion, wage fa control, the ratio of diameters corresponding to the speed ratio, requested between the driving and driven members d, i; the planetary gears in, n. of each train have corresponding diameters.
In the. control of the mechanism a, a member o is wedged on the drive shaft d. at the end of the sleeve e furthest from the drive sun gear f. This or gane o a la. shape of a disc with a peripheral conical flange p. Another disc-shaped member r having a peripheral conical flange s is slipped over the sleeve y of the control sun gear h and can slide along grooves.
The latter flange is disposed around the first and comprises at its inner peripheral surface a friction material t intended to come into contact with the outer peripheral surface of the. flange p of organ o. this member o and the member r forming part of a friction clutch.
In addition, the outer peripheral surface of the flange on the clutch member is provided with a friction material u intended to engage a complementary surface of a stationary member z attached to the clutch. casing or forming part. When the member r is pushed to come into engagement with: the first member o, the two sun gears f, h are locked together, thus causing the rotation of the driven sleeve ï at the same: speed as the drive shaft d .
On the other hand, when the member r is pushed to come into engagement with the stationary member -r, the sun gear la of control is prevented from turning in the manner described below and the man chon driven i is then rotated at Lzne speed lower than that of the drive shaft d,
the ratio of these speeds depending on the relative diameters of the sun gears f and la.
To push the sliding member -r of the e.m- bra.ya, ge in one direction, the stationary member z has several plungers such as iv, hydraulically controlled and sliding.
in cylindrical bores such as x, made in said member, the outer ends of these plungers being so arranged. to abut against a ring mounted on the sliding element. the clutch via a ball bearing z or the like.
Any suitable means are provided for the admission of the fluid. under pressure in said bores. The movement of the sliding member r of the clutch in the opposite direction is caused by springs 2.
These springs. Are housed in bores 3 made in the member: stationary v between the bores. x receiving, the plungers w. these springs being arranged so as to act on rods 4 fixed to the ring y and projecting laterally out of .lui.
The springs 2 serve <i keep 1 sliding member of the clutch engaged with the stationary member 7 #, the plungers u ensuring the coupling of the sliding member of the clutch with the additional member o of the clutch on the drive shaft d.
In addition, between the sleeve g of the sun control gear and the stationary member r is a one-way clutch. This comprises a series of rollers 5 forming a ring, arranged to cooperate with the inner peripheral surface of an annular part 6 fixed on or forming part of the stationary organ v and comprising inclined surfaces forming the bases of recesses in the outer periphery of another annular part 7 fixed to or forming part of the sleeve g.
Clutch 5-7 is shaped so as to prevent the sun gear h from turning in the opposite direction to that of the drive shaft d, when the sun gear is disengaged from the sun gear f drive by means of the sliding member of the friction clutch.
This clutch allows the two sun gears to rotate together when they are coupled by the components o, s. Of the friction clutch: The purpose of the unidirectional clutch 5-7 is to absorb the most a large part, if not all, of the reaction of the control solar beam when it is to be kept stationary, thus freeing the components s, v! of the friction clutch from this function, when energy is transmitted through the mechanism from the drive shaft d.
However,: when the intensified condition is temporarily fulfilled, i.e. when energy is transmitted from the driven component i to the drive shaft d, for example in the case where the vehicle drives its engine down a ramp, the control of the sun gear h is only ensured by the components s, v of the friction clutch: The second mechanism b is similar to that described in Swiss Patent No. 198028.
This mechanism comprises a drive ring 8 with internal teeth, manufactured with or fixed to the driven member i described above, a driven shaft 9 disposed coaxially with said driven member and supported at one of its ends by this last, a support 10. of planetary gears forming part of or fixed to the driven shaft, a sleeve 11 mounted so as to be able to turn on the driven shaft, a sun gear 12 forming part of or fixed to the sleeve and planetary gears such as 13,
. mounted on the support and intended to mesh with the sun gear and the ring. On the sleeve 11 is disposed a member 14 of a friction clutch which can slide in grooves and which has a peripheral part coni that provided with a friction material 15 by means of which the sliding member of the clutch. - braying can come into engagement either with a conical surface on the outer periphery of the ring 8,
either with a conical surface of a stationary member 16 forming part of or fixed to the housing c. The sliding member 14 of the clutch is movable, in the direction of engagement with the ring 8, by means of res spells such as 17, and in the opposite direction, to engage with the stationary member 16, by means of plungers such as 18,:
hydraulically actuated and mounted in bores such as 19 in said stationary member, any suitable means (not shown) being provided for the admission of pressurized fluid into said bores.
Springs such as 17 and plungers 18 are arranged to act on opposite sides of a ring 20 connected to another ring 22 by means of rods such as 21 pitching through bores provided in the ring. or gane stationary 16, the ring 22 being supported by the sliding clutch member 14 by means of a ball bearing 23 or the like.
The: displacement of the sliding member 14 of clutch caused by the plungers 18 is limited by fixed stops such as 24, against which the adjacent ends of the plungers can stop, these ends,
pistons being -dia meter smaller than that of the piston and arranged-so as to project through the ring 20 and the springs 17 being -disposed around the stops and adjacent ends of the pis tons , divers.
A one-way clutch of any suitable shape is arranged between the stationary member 16 and the bush 11 of the sun gear 12, so that the latter gear is prevented from rotating in the opposite direction to that of the ring. 8, when the clutch member 14 is disengaged from the ring.
This one-way clutch may comprise rollers 25 arranged in rings intended to cooperate with the periphery of annular parts 26, 27, of suitable shape, arranged on the sleeve 11 and, respectively, on the stationary member 16. The purpose of the one-way clutch 25-27 is analogous to that of the nel one-way clutch used: in the first mechanism a.
When the sun gear 12 is locked against the ring 8 by means of the friction clutch member 14, the driven shaft 9 rotates at the same speed as the ring 8 and, when the sun gear is held blocked. the driven shaft rotates at a lower speed corresponding to the ratio of the diameters of the sun gear and the ring.
If required, a suitably shaped reverse gear can be disposed at the rear end of the second mechanism b. In the example shown, the assembly of such a gear is indicated by 28, it comprises a sun gear 29 fixed to the driven shaft 9, a support 30 for planetary gears mounted so as to be able to slide and rotate on the shaft driven between the sun gear 29 and the stationary member 16, a hollow shaft 31, driven, arranged coaxially with the outer end of the driven shaft 9 and serving to support this end, a ring 32 with an inner toothing forming part of or fixed to the driven hollow shaft and pinions such as 33 mounted on the support and meshing with.
both with the central pinion and the ring. Support 30 -des. planetary gears is hollow and is internally provided with teeth 34 intended for. engage with the central pinion 29, the latter being large enough to engage both with these teeth and with those of the planetary pinions 33 when the support is. in the extreme position shown in solid lines at the. fig. 1.
The support 30 is also provided at its end adjacent to the stationary member 16 with an external toothing 35 intended to engage with an internal toothing 36 of the. part 27 of the stationary member when the support is moved to the other extreme position shown in phantom on fg. 1. In this position, the. interior den ture 34 of this support 30 is released from the pinion: sun 29 which is however still in engagement with. the planetary gears 33.
The support 3 (-) comprises at a point near the. external toothing 35, a groove 37 into which a fork 38 enters through which the support can be moved between its two extreme positions, the fork being fixed to. a control rod 39. The latter passes through a bearing 40 disposed at the adjacent end (lu casing r and can slide in this bearing.
When the carrier 30 is in the position shown in solid lines, the trailing hollow shaft 31. rotates at the. same speed and in the same direction as the driven shaft 9, but, when the support is in the position shown in phantom, the shaft 31 rotates at a speed lower than. that of shaft 9 and in the opposite direction to that of this shaft.
The support; of the three mechanisms a, b and 28, inside the housing c, is produced by any arrangement of ball or other bearings, three of these bearings being used in the example shown and indicated by 41.
Instead of being arranged as described above, the order of the mechanisms ca and b can be reversed: in this case, the driving member d of the mechanism a can be coupled to the driven member 10 of the mechanism b .
The device described above gives four speed ratios allowing a speed change, to. from any one gear to another easily and without having to disengage the engine mechanism, or accelerate or slow down the engine speed. Although the invention applies primarily to motor vehicles, it can (by means of appropriate modifications of minor details) be applied, for example, to machine tools.
