Process for the preparation of a water-soluble, higher molecular weight, α-substituted benzylamine ivate. It has been found that the water-soluble, higher molecular weight, α-substituted benzylamines represent a brilliant new, technically very valuable compounds due to their interesting properties.
They are made according to the methods that have become known for the presentation of water-soluble derivatives of amines from the higher molecular weight, α-substituted benzyl amines. For example, salts can be used with acids or through partial or exhaustive alkylation and or aralkylation, compounds which, provided they are not quaternary, can be converted into water-soluble form with the aid of salt-forming acids.
Substituted benzylamines are generally understood to mean the amines as can be obtained from the aryl alkyl ketones by the Leukhart process using ammonium formate or from the same ketones by catalytic reduction in the presence of ammonia.
The aryl alkyl ketones, which contain a saturated hydrogen residue of at least 8 carbon atoms, are particularly valuable.
Examples are concretes made from benzene and palm kerf fatty acid, from toluene and palmitic acid, from dodecylbenzene and acetic acid, from diphenyl ether and gapric acid, from naphtha lin and palm kernel fatty acid, from anisole and naphthenic acid, from OD: chlorobenzene and palm kernel fatty acid, etc. be won.
The new primary amines can be converted into secondary, tertiary or even quaternary compounds by alkylation with conventional alkylation agents such as chloromethyl, dimethyl sulfate, diethyl sulfate, allyl chloride, etc.
The secondary and tertiary can, however, also be or with different alkylation. Aralkylating agents in mixed alkylated respectively. Convert aralkylated tertiary or quaternary amines:
alkyl halides, alkyl sulfates, sulfonic acid esters, 0% y-haloalkyls, halocarboxylic acids, their esters or amides, haloketones, haloalkylnitriles, haloalkylrhodanides, benzyl halides, halobenzyl halides, haloxybenzyl halides, etc. are particularly suitable for this purpose,
all of these halogen compounds mentioned must contain reactive halogen.
The secondary and tertiary bases thus obtained form water-soluble salts with acids, such as chlorohydrates, sulfates, oxalates, acetates, lactates, etc. The quaternary compounds are also water-soluble. Some of these new products have excellent dispersing and wetting properties, which is why they can be used in the textile industry and in all other branches of industry in which such auxiliaries are needed.
A number of the new compounds have other valuable properties as well, for example some with dyes that have acidic groups provide insoluble precipitates so that they can be used to make dyeings waterproof. Finally, a number of the new products can be used as pest control agents, for example as moth repellants, as disinfectants, but also for the production of plasticizers.
Object. of the present patent is a process for the preparation of a water-soluble, higher molecular weight, α-substituted benzylamine derivative, characterized in that α-undecylbenzylamine, obtainable by heating laurophenone with ammonium formate and subsequent saponification of the resulting formyl compound, with dimethyl sulfate converted into the quaternary ammonium compound.
The new compound, a light, viscous paste, is easily soluble in water with the formation of strongly foaming solutions and can be used as a disinfectant. <I> Example: </I> 100 parts of laurophenone, prepared from distilled palm kernel fatty acid, fraction Kp "170-220, and benzene, are mixed with 70 parts of ammonia.t, produced by neutralizing 830 parts of formic acid 85% with 1080 parts of ammonia B> 25% </B> and evaporation to about 900-950 parts, mixed and heated to 180 to <B> 185 </B> within 3-4 hours,
then kept at this temperature for 5-6 hours. The resulting formyl compound of a-C-decylbenzylamine is saponified, the free amine is extracted with ether and distilled; Kp1 4 <B> 185-940 '. </B> The amine is a light-colored oil that is soluble in dilute hydrochloric acid and has a strong basic odor.
?! @ Mol of a-undecylbenzylamine is dissolved in 800 parts by volume of dry chlorobenzene and 120 parts of solid soda slurried in it. At <B> 100 '</B>, 130 parts of dimethyl sulfate are slowly added dropwise and the mixture is stirred at this temperature overnight.
The precipitated sodium sulfate is filtered off and a further 65 parts of dimethyl sulfate are added dropwise to the filtrate, which contains the α-undecylbenzyldimethylamine. After several hours of heating to <B> 100 '</B>, the chlorobenzene is removed by water vapor distillation and the clear solution of the quaternary ammonium compound is evaporated.
What remains is a light, viscous paste that is easily soluble in water and foams strongly.
