A method of manufacturing a reinforced fleece, a device for carrying out this method and a fleece obtained by means of said method. Fleece, used for linings used for padding clothes and other uses, is currently produced, either directly from the material as it leaves the carding machine, then sewn by the tailor who makes the garment, on a special canvas, or a material with twisted yarns which is knitted on machines, such as, for example, "Raschel" machines, the product then being passed to the spinning operation, in order to obtain a soft mass tose, fibrous, forming fleece for linings.
The great disadvantage of the fleece obtained by the two methods indicated above is the dislocation of its threads and, finally, their piling up in the different points of the lining. Other drawbacks are the high manufacturing cost and the need for a machine. and different working procedures, a large number of personnel, a preparation by needlework, by sewing, on a special canvas, etc., without obtaining a product which is uniform in quality and resistance.
To overcome the noted drawbacks, the present invention comprises a method of. manufacture of reinforced fleece for linings and other uses. This process consists in passing a web of fibrous material, such as it leaves the carding machine, through a knitting device, with a view to applying to this web a series of chain links. , the latter taking between them the sheet of fibrous material, tightening it and forming a reinforcing frame therein which keeps the frayed threads well and prevents them from breaking up,
thus constituting a support suitable for undergoing all the stresses to which the fleece is exposed, so that the fibrous mass thereof does not break up or tear, neither during work nor in the long run, with use.
The invention further comprises a device for carrying out the above process, intended to produce fleece with twisted and knitted yarns, using ordinary cotton yarn, a device characterized in that it comprises a series of knitting hooks, with single claws, having an individual rotational movement and an overall up and down movement, the handles of the hooks provided with a twisting means. allowing the hooks to rotate by 180, the hooks themselves being carried by a supporting vertical movement guide piece, these two movements being independent of each other, all these members being established so that the web of fibrous material .
as it comes out of the carding machine, passes over the hooks whose claws are directed, on the rise, in the direction of arrival of the web and, on the descent, in the opposite direction, so that these claws can catch and pull the knitting threads, forming knitting stitches, without however pulling the threads from the layer of material to be worked, all these members being established so that, in their downward movement, the hooks grab the knitting threads that are above the web of fibrous material,
to make them describe an alter natively rotating movement sometimes around a hook, tan early around the neighboring hook, by making them wind alternately on each of the two neighboring hooks. Finally, the invention also comprises a reinforced fleece obtained by means of the above process. This fleece is characterized by the fact that it consists of a sheet of fibrous material, tight between the stitches of rows of knitting chains which thus constitute a reinforcing reinforcement, suitable for supporting the fibrous material and the frayed threads of the fabric. sheet and to undergo the deterioration forces to which the quill is subjected during its use.
The appended drawing represents, schematically and by way of example, an embodiment of the device that the invention comprises, two variant details of this device, as well as an embodiment of the fleece. that the invention also includes.
The device shown, for the manufacture of a fleece made of twisted yarns, is of the type of the knitting machine called "Raschel".

Figs. 12 to 14 finally, show the way. the hooks work with the knitting yarns.
Fig. 12 shows a hook claw retracted into a guide plate of the hooks, when it begins work or when it is lowered, driving. the link of a chain. Fig. 13 shows the way in which the thread winds on the raised hook, in order to prepare the next stitch.
Fig. 14 shows diagrammatically the course to the right and to the left carried out by the wire in order to wind, alternately, on two neighboring hooks.
As seen in Figs. 1 to 6, the device comprises knitting hooks 1, formed by independent pieces, of the type of single hooks, each hook moving in a channel 2 arranged in a guide carrier piece formed of three fragments 3, 3,1 and 4 fixed together by screws. The fragments 3 and 31 leave between them a groove 5 through which is passed a fixator 6, which also passes through the necks 7 of the hooks 1, so that the latter, once s placed in the aforementioned bearing part, cannot that turn relative to this part.
The rotation of the hooks can be effected by the fact that the handle 8 of these passes between the parallel teeth 9 of a comb 10, this handle 8 having a twisting means 11 which, when it passes between the teeth 9, rotates the corresponding hook so that the claws 12 of hooks 1 turn 180.
The guide carrier part 3, 31, 4 is provided with as many channels 2 as there are hooks 1. This part is fixed by means of an angle 13, to two sliding rods 14 which move in bearings. 15 fixed on a frame 01 of the device, the latter being, for example, of the type of the "Raschel" machine. Lever arms 17 act on grooved wheels 16, also fixed to the rods 14, which arms are set in motion, at the appropriate moment, by cams not shown in the drawing, and push the grooved wheels upwards. 16, so that the parts 3, 31 and 4 forming the supporting part for guiding the hooks 1, is raised. The downward movement of the rods 14 is limited by the descent of the arms 17, on which the weight of the parts mounted on said sliding rods 14 acts.
The comb 10 is carried by arms 18 fixed on. rods 19 which move in bearings 20 fixed on rods 14. At their lower part, rods 19 carry a roller 21, loose on its axis and pushed upwards by a cam 22 fixed on a shaft 23, set in motion by a chain wheel or by a gear of the propulsion mechanism of the device indicated in the drawing at 24. In this way, with each revolution of the shaft 23, the cams 22 lift the rollers 21 and, consequently, the rods 19 carriers of the comb 10, so that, when the teeth of the comb face the twisting means 11, they force the hooks 1 to turn 180, so that their claws 12 change position.
The shaft 23 is carried by bearings 25 which are fixed to the lower end of the rods 14.
The claws 12 of the hooks 1 remain during rest in holes 26 of a guide bridge <B> 261, </B> over: which passes during work the web of fibrous material. The guide bridge is placed below the wire guide 27, the number of which is equal to the number of hooks 1 plus one. The yarn guides 27 con duce the knitting yarns 28 during the work, distributing them: to the hooks 1.
During labor, each of. thread guide 27 makes a circumventing movement over and around one of the hooks 1, so that the thread. 28 winds around the respective hook, this while the hooks are raised off the deck -gui-de 26i (fig. 12 and 13).
Each thread is wound first on a hook 1 (fig. 14), it forms a stitch, then it winds on the neighboring hook <B> 11, </B> where it also forms a stitch ; it winds again, for the third time, on lie cro chet 1, for the fourth time on the next hook 1 i and so on, joining in this way, with each new stitch, the row of stitches made by a crochet in the row of stitches made by the neighboring crochet hook, so that the rows of chains are tied together.
This movement is shown diagrammatically in fig. 14. The yarn starts from point a, goes around hook 1, arrives at b and stops for a moment, after which it starts again and arrives at a, ie at the point where it started. For the second stitch, he starts from n, goes around the next hook 11, arrives at e and stops for a moment, then starts again and comes back to a, where he started. These movements are repeated for each stitch. respectively. as it has already been described. Moreover, it is shown in fig. 11 the way in which a row of stitches 29, made by hook 1, is chained to a row of stitches 291, made by the neighboring hook II, the row of stitches 291 to stitches 292, made by hook 12, and so right now.
The mode of operation of the device shown is as follows: In the starting position, the hooks 1 are withdrawn downwards. so that their claws 12 remain in the holes 26 of the plate 261 (Fig. 12).
The thread guides 27 of the threads 28 are in position, facing the machine. The comb 10 is at the end of its downward stroke, the rollers 21 are in contact with the circumferential part of the cams 22, so that the twisting means 11 of the handles 8 of the hooks 1 remain above the comb .
The son 28 are brought and passed through the son guide 27, by assembling the ends of son 281 in bundles and thus binding them to the drum (not shown in the drawing) which receives. as a rule, the product worked everything. ready. The web of fibrous material 29 is brought as it comes out of the Barder machine. and it is placed above the guide plate 261. The device is turned by hand until the claws 12. raised by the arms 17 pushed by the respective cams. pierce the web of fibrous material 29; it is then adjusted well on the plate, by means of any threshing machine, at the points where it has been raised by the penetration of the grif fes.
Continuing to turn the device, the threads 28 wind around the hooks 1, 11, 12, respectively, following the path indicated in figs. 13 and 14. However, the cam 22 is caused to push the rollers 21 upwards, so that the comb 10 also rises and forces, by coming to cooperate with the twisting means 11, the hooks 1 to execute a rotation. 180, that is to say that they turn so as to bring their claws 12 towards the front of the device (FIG. 12). The movement of the device is stopped and a starting string 30 is passed over the threads 28 and in front of the hooks 1, so that in the formation of the following stitches, it prevents the lifting of the fabric.
The device is turned on again, the respective cams leave the arms free, which descend and cause the claws 12, which are now turned in the direction of movement of the web 29, to grip the knitting yarns, them. pull down, forming chain stitches, and then hide in the holes 26 of the guide plate, but without catching the web 29.
At the same time, the cams 22 also rotate, so that the comb 10 begins to descend until (kills, when the hooks have reached the end of their downward stroke, the twisting means 11 arrive between the teeth <B> 1 </B> of said comb, by forcing the hooks to make a rotation of <B> 180 ',
</B> in order to return again to their starting position, that is to say to have their claw directed in the direction of arrival of the tablecloth.
Continuing to turn the device, the above-mentioned operations, namely: lifting of the hooks 1. winding of threads 28, driving. stitches and rotation (the hooks are repeated exactly in this second working cycle, with the difference that when the threads are wound on the hooks, they catch & or them the string 3f) and, in the process stitches down, this string remains caught in the (second row of stitches.
The twine 30 is then cut at its ends which exceed the width of the web 29 and the device can then be put into operation in a mechanical manner, the operations of <B> the </B> formation of the stitches will thus continue. , as described, with this particularity that after each row of stitches, the thread guides 27 move once to the left, once to the right, as has been said above, so that the threads make a stitch sometimes on a hook, sometimes on a neighboring hook,
for linking between rows of neighboring chains.
The mechanism of movement of the thread guides 27 is not described, as it is of the type used in knitting machines.
The guide plate 261 can be adjusted in height, depending on the kind of knitting, in order to vary the tightness. stitches in relation to the material of the tablecloth to be worked. Thus, for a weak knitting, i.e. for a more fibrous fleece, <B> the </B> plate 261 is left further down, so that the prongs 12 come out of the plate during rest. . In this way, the stitches being drawn more loosely, the knitting also comes looser and, consequently, the fleece becomes more fibrous, more fluffy.
On the contrary, by lifting the plate 261, the claws 12 are more hidden in the holes of said plate, so they pull the knitting threads with more force, so that the stitches are tighter and the knitting also becomes more hard. In this case, the fleece is more pressed and, therefore, thinner in thickness, but at the same time harder. By an exact adjustment of the plate 261, one can thus obtain a fleece according to the needs of the work.
In the variant of fig. 8, the tor deur means 11 which rotates the hook 1 when it passes between the teeth of the comb 10 is replaced by a twisting means consisting of a helical groove 31 formed in the body of the hook 1, groove into which a pin enters M fixed on a part 33 which replaces the comb 10. This part directs the handle 8 of the hooks towards the lower part where the said grooves 31 are located.
In another variant shown in FIG. 7, the twisting means is constituted by teeth 34 provided on the handle of the hook and engaging the teeth of a comb 35 which can move transversely in both directions on the handle 8 of the hook, over a sufficient distance to rotate the hooks 180.
If desired, the fleece obtained by means of the device described can then be passed through a fraying machine, in order to obtain a fluffy appearance.
