Optisches System.

Optical system. The invention relates to an optical system for uniform illumination: a circular condenser system by means of the light emitted from all sides by a linear light source, and is characterized in that at least one at least almost cylindrical mirror surface, whose main direction is parallel to the longitudinal axis the light source and its axis of curvature does not fall into the light source,
is arranged with respect to the light source in such a way that those parts of the reflecting surface which are the smallest distance from the longitudinal axis.3e of the light source are at most 1?! cm from this longitudinal axis, this distance is smaller than the radius of curvature of the mirror surface,
so that at least one enlarged image of the light source is generated in its immediate vicinity. As a result of the specified arrangement of the light source with respect to the mirror surface, the astigmatism that occurs is kept within acceptable limits.
A super high pressure mercury vapor discharge tube, for example, can be used as the light source; H. a discharge tube with a constricted discharge path which, when in operation, has a mercury vapor pressure of more than 6 atm. having. This pressure is expediently higher than 10 atm. and can even exceed 100 Atm. be.
The optical system according to the invention can be used, inter alia, in film projection apparatus. With these devices, it is of great importance that the opening through which the film to be projected is passed, the so-called film window, is illuminated over its entire surface as evenly as possible and with the greatest possible brightness, whereby:
it is recommended. not to let images of the light source fall into the film window.
In the above: it is stated that the mirror surfaces are designed to be at least almost cylindrical, while their main direction

The situation is completely different if the aforementioned light source is used as the organ that emits light. As already said, it is important for film projection to be able to dispose of a luminous surface as homogeneously as possible as a light-emitting organ.
If a linear light source is used as the light-emitting organ, then this must be deformed in some way into a light-emitting surface. If the aforementioned measures are used for the use of incandescent lamps, the stated purpose will not be achieved:
because such an arrangement would have the disadvantage, especially if gas discharge tubes were to be used as light sources, that as a result of the light sources enveloping the glass tubes, the various linear light sources would be too far apart, which would create hiatus in the light radiating surface, which is undesirable for uniform illumination of the film five, and a brightly illuminated center cannot be obtained.
Since a linear light source generally already has sufficient dimensions in its longitudinal direction, it is usually unnecessary to create an enlargement in this direction for the intended purpose. In the direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction: the dimension of the light source is very small, so in this direction.
an enlargement, in fact a thickening is desired. As already indicated, this is done according to the invention. achieved by .that the mirror surface is given a cylindrical or almost cylindrical shape. The mirror arrangement can very advantageously contain two circular cylindrical mirror surfaces whose axes of curvature do not coincide with one another. Preferably, these mirror surfaces can be parallel to one another with the longitudinal axis of the light source. Cut straight.
As already said, according to the invention: the mirror surfaces are arranged at a very short distance from the light source. The distance of the longitudinal axis of the light source from the mirror parts closest to it is expediently a maximum of 1.5 cm and from the most distant mirror parts a maximum of 4 cm.
This ensures that the rays generated by the rays in horizontal planes. Partial images of the light source are also in the immediate vicinity of the light source, which means that the light emitted by the light source and the light emitted by these partial images can be easily processed by the condenser system or by any other lens system that can be used.
If a super high pressure mercury vapor discharge tube in a case containing a cooling liquid is used as the light source, it is possible to design the side of the case facing the condenser system as a cylinder lens.
This can be done, for example, because the side of the casing facing the condenser system is by means of a cylindrical. curved glass plate is completed.
With such an arrangement, the rear wall of the discharge tube can be mirrored. On the other hand, it is also possible to arrange the mirror separately at a short distance from: the discharge tube. It should be taken into account that the discharge path does not coincide with the center of curvature of the mirror surface.
With the arrangement: the light source in cooperation with the aforementioned mirror surfaces, combined with any refraction device or not, a spherical mirror can be arranged symmetrically with respect to the system axis.
This achieves that: The spatial angle within which the light beams that do not hit one of the aforementioned: mirror surfaces or the condenser surface are emitted, 'is limited, which means that the emitted light beam is more concentrated.
The drawing illustrates exemplary embodiments of the subject matter of the invention. Yes, 1b, <B> each, </B> 2'a, 2b and 2e is an image of the beam path with an arbitrary arrangement of a smooth or. bent cylindrical mirror with respect to the light source. in cooperation with a condenser lens. In which arrangements the results according to the invention are not taken into account.
So you serve here to clarify the situation. These arrangements in which the condenser lens is incapable of both that of the light source. than to process the light emitted by your pictures, so give rise to considerable light losses.
FIGS. 1 a, 1 b and 1 e show this beam path for a smooth cylindrical mirror s with a center line of curvature M, with a linear superhigh-pressure mercury vapor discharge tube L between the mirror and the center line of curvature, parallel to the latter and at a relatively large distance from the mirror is arranged as a light source.
If you look at the beam path in a plane perpendicular to the light source, you can see (Fig.la) that the light source L can emit light rays within a fairly small spatial angle, which are reflected by the mirror S '. The light rays reflected within a smaller solid angle b form a thickened image BA in this projection. As a result of the fact.
Since this image lies at a relatively large distance from the light source L, it is not possible for the condenser C to process both the light beams emitted by the light source L and the light beams emitted by the generated image Bii.
The. This is because the condenser lens cannot be focused at the same time, both on the light source L and on the image BA, which is quite far away from the light source L. Furthermore, the edge of the lens C is not illuminated to the same extent as its central part.
It should also be noted that the cylindrical mirror arrangement results in an astigmatical image, the limits of which. of the in Fig. 1.a respectively. lb specified partial images BH and Bv are formed.
In addition, this condenser lens can process the light rays emitted by the light source L only over an angle c, so that the light stile (@ii emitted over an angle of 31i (10 --- ((-, light stile (@ii) are to be regarded as lost zii.
Fig.lt) there. the mirror effect in the plane of symmetry containing the linear light source. It is clear that here the mirror S acts as a flat mirror, so that a virtual image 13v of the light source L is created at a certain distance behind the mirror. whereby this distance corresponds to the object distance.
If the light source and this image are seen from the outermost point P of the condenser lens, if these are projected onto a plane extending through L, then an image according to FIG. 1e is obtained. It is clear that this light-emitting organ cannot be called favorable for the point P mentioned, since there is no light-emitting part in the optical center 0, but rather a dark hiatus between the image Rv and the light source L exists.
In the fig. 2a, 2b and 2e, the arrangement of such a light source I is shown in relation to a kinked cylindrical mirror S. The arrangement indicated in these figures has the same disadvantages as the arrangement according to FIG. 1b and 1e.
The two mirror parts have center lines of curvature 3T 'respectively. f1 ". The light source L lies at a smaller distance from the mirror halves than the aforementioned center lines of curvature. Since the spatial angle a within which the light source emits its rays to the mirror is greater than the sum of the two halves of the solid angle
EMI0004.0101

EMI0004.0108
emit their light rays to the condenser lens C. With this arrangement, too, a considerable part of the light emitted is lost in the room. As a result of the fact.
The fact that the thickened images lie at a fairly large distance from the light source means that the condenser lens is unable to process both the light rays emitted by the light source and the light rays emitted by its images. In addition, an important part of the emitted light is lost, since the light source only covers the mirror surface S 'over an angle a and the condenser system only over an angle e. illuminated.
Here, too, the central condenser part is illuminated more strongly than the edge of this lens, due to the fact that: that. the partial images B'H and B "" only over one angle
EMI0005.0017
Emit light in the direction of the condenser.
The Fig. 2b respectively. 2r show a picture: the mirror effect in the plane containing the light source L. Due to the bent mirror shape. two virtual images B'v and B "v will arise behind the mirror, which, in the projection according to FIG. 2: b, coincide.
With this arrangement, too, the images are ast bgmatic, i. H. .that they have a certain extent in the direction of the system axis. These astibgmatic images are here from the partial images B '$ B'v respectively. B "H-B" v limited.
The pictures resp. the light sources are projected from the outermost point P of the condenser lens C and in a single plane: seen, look as shown in FIG. 2c. It is clear that, here too, no suitable brightly lit center is created:
because between the ends of the light source L facing one another and the images B'v respectively. B "v is a light, from :: ending center.
Some exemplary embodiments of the optical system according to the invention are shown in FIGS. 3a, 3b, 3, e and 4. The light source L is arranged at a distance of less than the radius of curvature of the mirror surface from this surface so that the distance from the light source to that part of the mirror surface which is the smallest distance from the light source
is no more than 11/2 cm. In: this way: this mirror surface catches the light rays emitted by the light source over a relatively large solid angle a.uf, so that the economy of the system is significantly increased in relation to the embodiments according to FIGS. 1 and 2.
Curvature center lines: this mirror surface is in the immediate vicinity of the light source, which leads to images that are also at a short distance from the light source, so that the condenser system is both that of the light source and that originating from the images Laughs usefully.
Through this arrangement, the condenser lens is evenly illuminated over its entire surface, Fig. 3.a shows an arrangement in which the various parts, such as light source, mirror surface and lens, are about the same as those according to Figs. 2a, 2u and < B> 2 </B> c.
The light source L is here but in a significant: smaller distance from, the mirror surface S than as with those; which makes it possible, please include that:, this within a. much larger angle a, z. B. one of 1-80, which intercepts light rays going directly from the light source L and becomes two enlarged images B'H respectively. B "$ reshaped.
This enlargement is brought about by the fact that the light source L is at a shorter distance than the center lines of curvature <B> 31 '</B> or. iIT "from the mirror surface.
As a result of the fact that: the center lines of curvature 1V1 'and M "are in: the immediate vicinity of the: mirror surface, the above-mentioned images are also in the immediate vicinity of the light source L, so that it becomes possible: that of L, BH and B "$ sent out. Light rays can be processed useful through the condenser.
If the spatial angle within which the light source radiates its light rays directly to the condenser lens is called c, then it can be seen that: that - here from: the solid angle from
