Description
Process for the production of metal coatings on objects. The invention relates to a method for producing metal coatings on objects.
It has already been proposed to provide me metallic and non-metallic objects with a metal coating by the metal forming the metal coating was deposited from a Metallkar bonyl. In practicing this known method, the object to be coated with metal had to be placed in a cavity which was either evacuated or provided with an inert atmosphere. The metal carbonyl had to be converted into a gaseous state by heating.
This process is very cumbersome and cannot be carried out in all cases, for example with larger objects.
The inventive method described below allows the metal coatings to be applied to the objects to be coated in a much simpler way. The invention consists in applying a metal carbonyl dissolved in an organic solvent to the metal carbonyl to be coated with metal, to the decomposition temperature of the carbonyl heated object is applied, whereupon the metal is deposited on the object to be coated and the released carbon oxide escapes at the same time as the remaining organic residues.
In the following some execution examples of the invention are explained. The metal oarbonyl is used in solution in an organic solvent. The solutions can be real solutions or colloidal solutions of the carbonyls. Such solvents are, for example, paraffin oil, ceresin and similar organic substances.
For example, if a solution of molybdenum carbonyl in ceresine is sprayed onto a glass surface heated to 300 degrees Celsius, the molybdenum is deposited as a mirror on the glass surface, while the carbon oxide is released and removed at the same time as the remaining organic constituents. This gas vapor mixture, which initially surrounds the metal-coated surface, also serves to prevent the oxidation of the metal layer produced.
The effect can be supported by adding inert gases, for example nitrogen during spraying, whereby the deposition conditions of the metal can be influenced at the same time, for example a dilution can be achieved without increasing the amount of solvent.
Instead of paraffin oil, respectively. Ceresin, a substance can also be used that absorbs, binds or adds the developing carbon dioxide, such as aminoanthraquinone, isoborneol and similar substances.
The spraying of the solution containing the carbonyl can be effected through a nozzle which can be kept at the evaporation temperature of the chosen carbonyl. This temperature of the nozzle is, however, below the decomposition temperature of the carbonyl.
The object to be coated with metal can be heated by high-frequency currents. In this case, the reaction space can remain cold.
