Description

Shaped bodies for polishing, honing and grinding objects of great hardness. The invention relates to a molded body for polishing, honing and grinding of objects of great hardness. in particular of objects made of hard alloys.

Silicon carbide is one of the hardest, widely used polishing and grinding media. It is used in particular for grinding the so-called hard alloys and metal carbides, which are sold under various names.

The good grinding effect due to the high hardness of silicon carbide is adversely affected by the fact that the crystals are connected to one another by a clay-containing binder, the strength of which is only low in relation to the strength of the crystals. When processing very hard materials, the crystals are therefore easily broken out of their structure, which not only results in a high level of wear on the grinding bodies, but also in poor grinding performance.

The shaped body for polishing, honing and grinding according to the invention is characterized in that it consists at least for the most part of pure beryllium yogide sintered at over 1700. This is to be understood in the sense that at least 50 beryllium yogyd is used.

The use of such bodies in the form of grinding wheels or the like is particularly advantageous.

The beryllium oxide particles can either be united with one another by a substance that is also sintered at a high temperature, such as aluminum oxide.

An even more solid structure is obtained if only the pure beryllium ogyd particles are formed, for example with the aid of a castable Schlieker or by pressing, and the moldings are sintered at a temperature above 1700 ° C., for example between 1900 ° C. and 2000 ° C. If the sintering is continued long enough at a high temperature, a strong solidification of the body occurs through the growing together of the crystals.

The shaped body according to the invention is not only suitable for grinding and honing objects made of hard metal alloys and similar materials, but also for grinding and polishing objects made of sintered metal oxides, for example highly sintered aluminum oxide, which has so far hardly been machined due to its great hardness could.
