L'appareil tel que représentéà la fig 1 est logéà l'intérieur d'une boîte10. servant à son transport; -cette boîte, -comme indiqué en11, comporte un revêtement -en une ma tière d'absorption du 'bruit., de façonà, ab sorber tout bruit qui pourrait être produit par le -dispositif de projection, par le moteur, ou par le flottement -du film, dans le but,d'é- viter toute gêne pour les assistants;
Ce châssis de guidage du film comporte une plaque #d'appui 59, -comme dans le -châssis précédemment mentionné, mais le film est poussé vers #tte plaque, par un patin de pres sion rectiligne70. Ce patin comporte des oreilles71, qui remplissent le même rôle que les oreilles mentionnées plus haut;
On verra, d'après la fic. 4, que le film passe sur la partie supérieure -du tambour denté -d'entraînement37, qui tire le filmà partir de la bobine supérieure ou bobine-dé- rouleuse; le film passe -ensuite, sous forme d'une boucle aplatie,à la partie supérieure du châssis -de guidageà travers lequel il est tiré par le mécanismeà mouvement d'a vancement intermittentdéjà décrit età par tir ;
ces tubes étant des tubes appropriés -de puissance et donnant un -courantde oortie suffisant pour faire fonetionner convenablement le haut- parl-eur;
Portable sound cinematographic installation. The present invention relates to a portable sound cinematographic installation, which can, for example, be used at home and for education. The installation according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises an apparatus -comprising a device -for projection of cinematographic films, a device serving to produce current variations for the reproduction < B> of sound in a loudspeaker and an amplifier united in a single structure, this apparatus being housed, inside inside a bdite which can be used for < / B> its transport.
The installation can advantageously compare a loudspeaker clean to -be, housed -in a similar box used for transport, which can also contain additional film reels.
The accompanying drawings represent, by by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention and variants -detail.
The, fig. 1 is a side elevational view of the whole apparatus in its box, showing the image projection device and the device serving to produce current variations, the box being shown open for threading -of the film into the image projection device; Fig. # is a similar view of the device, but without the transport box;
The figg. 3 is a view of the side opposite of the apparatus, -with the amplifier and re-trainer tubes being removed and the cover removed from the envelope of an electric photo cell; Fig. 4 is an elevational view, corresponding generally to to, FIG. 2 and indicating a large part of the interior construction of the apparatus; Fig. to is an enlarged to scale view of the -device used to produce current -variations y including the optical system, and -a mechanism for driving the film there;
Fig. -6 is a longitudinal horizontal sectional view taken along the line 6-6 of fig. 4, that is to say by the axis of the optical system of the device shown to in FIG. 5;
Fig. 7 is a vertical sectional view along the line 7-7 of fig. 4, that is to say a section through the left end of FIG. 2 or by the right-hand end of FIG. 3, showing the internal construction of the projection device, on the side corresponding to the toothed film-driving drums, and of the device serving to producing the current variations ; Fig. 8 is a horizontal sectional view taken along the line 8-8 of FIG. 4, that is to say a section of the parts along the axis of the control motor;
Fig. 9 is an elevational view of the projection device, viewed from the right end in figs. 1 or 2, or from the left end to in fig. 3; Fig. 10 shows the upper part of the view corresponding to fig. 9, but with the cover plate removed;

Figs. 13, 14 and 15 represent details of # it; Fig. 16 represents a speaker mounted -and ready to operate; Figure 17 represents the loudspeaker housed in a box-intended -to receive it, with film reels; Fig. 18 represents the complete diagram of the electrical connections of the apparatus linked to a loudspeaker, and fig. 19 represents the rear of the box - of the apparatus, assuming a door open - giving access to the amplifier tubes.
The film, with which the -pro jection device shown is intended to cooperate, has the usual width -of 16 mm and qcomport # _- of images having exactly the same dimensions as those ordinarily used on -of the amateur-fitm of 1.6 mm.
The main difference with ordinary amateur film is that a -drive-perforation-row of the film is removed and a -sound-recording-tape, -of type to < / B> variable area and - with a width - of approximately 1.5 mm, is arranged approximately at the place where the row of perforations would have been located -d training removed. Other differences lie in the fact that we run the film at a speed of 24 frames or frames per second, which is the usual speed for films. -cinematographic sound, instead of the speed of sixteen frames or frames per second, which has heretofore been usually employed for 16 mm films.
The reason for this is that these views can be suitably projection printed, when desired, to from standard theatrical motion pictures or the like, without requiring the preparation of a special negative. and a special sound recording tape capable of being reproduced in this device.
The apparatus as shown in in fig 1 is housed inside inside a box 10. serving for its transport; -this box, -as indicated in 11, has a coating -in a sound-absorbing material., so as to, to absorb any noise which could be produced by the -projection device, by the motor, or by the floating -of the film, with the aim of avoiding any inconvenience for the assistants;
the box 10 # also has an opening for the lens, as shown in 12, -one or opening for the entry and exit of electrical conductors, as shown in 13, </ B> and an opening, for the entry and exit of the film, as shown at 14, the opening 13 having the form of a slot open at the top allowing the conductors to be removed by up when the lid of the box is open, so that they can be placed completely inside the inside of the box.
The 10 box also has 90 ventilation openings in the front and rear walls and. in the cover, as well as a door 91. at the back (fi, -. 19), which allows -to see access to the amplifier tubes without lifting the device -from its box.
The front wall of the box opens downwards to provide easy access to the side of the film corresponding apparatus, for threading, etc. On the outside of the box are mounted - one by one - removable, the support arms 15 for the film rolls, the lower arm being actuated by the belt 16 which passes over the idle rollers 17. Ma designates idle rollers serving to guide the film coming # from one of the reels to the projection device and to gone, of the device serving to the,
production of current variations to the other of these coils.
The cable going to the external speaker to the box 10 is connected to 1% p the appliance by a contact plug, as indicated in 209, and when the box is closed and ready to to operate, this cable exits through the opening 13.
After the film has been threaded with the box open, the box is closed and remains in the closed position during operation of the apparatus, which retains inside the box not only the noise -due to the projection device, but also any scattered light that may escape the lamp housing.
The box 10 has a suitable leveling mechanism, which may, for example, #consist of a vertically slidable part and held by the adjustment screw 18; </ B > or else this screw 18 can itself directly control a suitable part to raise or lower the front end of the box.
, As shown in fig. 2, the positive projection device and the associated parts are mounted on a base 20. This base is, as shown, formed by a bent metal sheet and supports on it an amplifier and a cell. photoelectric, in a manner similar to that usually followed in the manufacture of radio sets. It also supports with the projection device, the device used to produce current variations.
The projection device and the -device serving to produce current variations for the reproduction of sounds in a loudspeaker will first be described in 4kail, and then the electrical means s' y reporting.
On the base 20 -is mounted an auxiliary base, 21, which has the shape of a casting, rigidly assembled with the base 20, and which supports the -pro jection -device and If, < / B> engine 22.
The motor 22 constitutes an essential part of the projection device, # because it carries, inside its housing, at one end, the control mechanism the whole and the bearings for the toothed drums for driving the film, and, at its other end, the mechanism for intermittent advancement and setting -of the film; in the same way, it is used to support, on its side, the housing of the lamp serving to produce -current variations -and the sys - </ I > corresponding optical teme, -in front of which are arranged, in the motor casing, the guides of the film and the frame-of the optical system.
This motor comprises a rotor 23 (fig. 8), mounted inside the inside of the stator 22 ', which is supported in the casing or usual central cage; but the usual end caps are replaced by special ones, provided with the appropriate bearings, and lo ging the rest of the mechanism.
The thapeau, end 30, on the water side of fig. 2, carries bearings for shafts 31 and 32, and #on the inner ends of each of these shafts is mounted a helical-toothed wheel, as shown in 33 on the shaft 3 2, in fig. 7 -and 8. These two helical toothed wheels are driven by a worm 34, which is cut, on one end of the shaft M of the rotor 23. In the immediate vicinity -on the other end of the rotor,
a flywheel 3,6, which is used to regulate the rotational movement of the engine; it will therefore be understood that the shafts 31 and 32, with their toothed drums 37 and 38 (fig. 4), will be driven at a substantially uniform speed. A the inside of the other casing placed at the end of the motor have the intermittent advancement mechanisms # and the film framing.
The intermittent advancement mechanism comprises a toothed wheel 39, keyed to the shaft end 35 of the rotor 23 and meshing with a gear wheel, 40, which is integral with the cam system of the intermittent advancement mechanism and the shutter 41.
The intermittent advancement mechanism is of the to, claw type and is shown plus particularly in figs. 8, 10 and Il. It, includes a piece 42, which extends to from, from the rod 4S, on which it can slide in one direction and -in the other, and passes through through the. slot 44, which is formed below the opening 45.
This piece 42, carries at, its end-claws, extending to through the slit 44 -and -intended to come in engagement with the film and to. drag it. A its other end, this part 42- carries the arm 46, which extends outward to. the inside of the box and which can slide longitudinally on the stud 47, which is rigidly fixed to the arm 48.
A stud 49 cooperates with, Opening 50, made, in the part 42, to communicate a vertical movement to the claws; #eo stud 49 is carried by part 51, which is mounted to. pivot in 52 on the adjustable position arm 53 . The part 51 has an opening, with parallel upper and lower faces and in which can -move the -came 54, to move the part 51 and with it the claws advance the film in the vertical direction.
The framing is carried out by -moving the eccentric pole 55 around its axis, by means of -the button which is integral with -this pi vot, the eccentric pivot 55 </ B> attacking arm 53.
The movement of the feed jaws, inward and outward, is achieved by means of the cam 56, which acts on the part 48 and which, to < / B> in turn, by -cooperating with parts 47 and 46, produces an os cillation movement of Part 42 around shaft 43.
'The part 4-2 is moved up and down by a determined distance, and it also enters and exits the drag perforations at the convenient times and the setting -of the position of this part, at the times when the -various phases of the movement will occur, is easily done by means of the eccentric to 5.
It will be understood, -after fig. 8 and 11, that -some parts of the mechanism just described are mounted on the plate- 'Cover 57, while that other parts are mounted in the end casing 58 of the engine, but that these parts will be arranged in a relative position such that the device can be easily mounted.
Figs. 2, 4 and 8 show one embodiment of the guide frame. and screening of the film. This comprises a support plate 59, pierced with an opening serving as a projection window and fixed to the motor housing, in front of the optical system, and of the shutter, and this cum plate carries a rabbet-suitably drawn up to receive and guide the film.
Against this backing-plate acts the pressure pad 60, which has the shape # of a pressed metal plate, with contact surfaces of suitable shape for the film and with ears extending outwards, at its upper and lower parts, by means of which it can be grasped to open it.
The pressure pad 60 is kept in the closed position by the springs 61; it can be opened or removed, overcoming the pressure of these springs, by grabbing it by the ears mentioned above; can then, by pulling it back, slide the extended openings, made -in the sides -of the pressure pad -and in which are engaged the studs 62, on these studs # 62, in thus maintaining the pressure pad in the release position.
A modified embodiment of the film guiding and projection frame is shown in fig. 12; This particular kind of guide frame is found to be especially effective when the film is dragged by the traction of the intermittent feed mechanism over the perforations in only one edge of the film.
This film guide frame has a backing plate 59, -as in the previously mentioned -frame, but the film is pushed towards #this plate, by a rectilinear pressure pad 70. This skate has 71, ears which fulfill the same role as the ears mentioned above;
these 71 ears have each, in their lower edge, a notch 72, - so that one can. keep the pressure pad -in the open position, or -release by pulling it outwards and hooking these notches 72 on the plates 73, which also serve, - element of ide retained organs, to, against the action of the springs mounted on the lugs 71.
The opposite edge of the film is prevented from floating by a 74-gauge guide, which extends the entire length of the guide frame, but which, instead of being pushed strongly against the film by -springs, is located at a certain distance from the guide provided on the support plate 59, -so that the film can move li brement between the two guides.
This avoids producing any tension on the edge of the film which is not driven by the mechanism to. intermittent advancement movement and, at the same time, as a result of the weakening. the clearance (which may be of the order of 5 hundredths of a millimeter) between the guides, and of the pressure pad, acting on the other edge of the opening, any flutter -of the film is prevented-, cbe to Hang from the -projection window.
The film is illuminated, at the location of the opening of the guide frame, by means of a C, kr, lamp of the usual incandescent type, shown schematically at 80 (fig. 4) behind which is mounted in an adjustable position a reflector 81, which is held at a certain -distan of the casing of the. lamp by 83 screws and is brought back against these screws 83 by the, screw 84; he is. provided three screws 83, as will be seen from FIGS. 4 and 8 considered together.
In front, from the housing 82 of the lamp is mounted a bushel #cyIindrique 85, which encloses the usual condensing lenses 8 6 and which is maintained in the proper adjustment position by an adjustment screw 87, -as shown in fig. 8.
The upper part of the lamp housing has a ventilation duct 92, which serves to -direct hot air, coming from the bulb of, the lamp. upwards # through -openings 90, made -in the lid of the box 10. These openings are arranged so to be immediately above the top of the 92 duct when the 10 box is closed.
The cooling air is admitted through the other ventilation openings 90, in the front and rear walls of the box. It will be understood that, as a result of the greater number of openings made - in this place, the greater part - of the air penetrates around the amplifier tubes in the rear part of the box and serves for cool -first the amplifier tubes, which -have to operate at a relatively low temperature, and that the air then passes to the lower part of the lamp housing, and, - by circulating towards the ha-Lit to through it, serves to cool the lamp, projection,
which operates at a higher temperature. A minimum amount of air is therefore necessary to properly fulfill these two cooling roles, and the construction is thus simplified. In addition, the heat of the projection lamp itself ensures a. sufficient draft to sufficiently cool at both the lamp and the amplifier tubes.
We will see, according to the fic. 4, that the film passes over the upper part -of the toothed drum -drive 37, which pulls the film to from the upper reel or reel - de- rolling machine; the film then passes, in the form of a flattened loop, to the upper part of the guide frame to through which it is pulled by the mechanism to intermittent forward movement already described and to by shot;
from which it passes, sa-Read the shape -of another loop, a device serving to produce variations -of current, which will be described below, and then on the toothed drum 38 and, making another loop, on the lower part of the toothed drum 37, which serves as a retaining drum for the lower reel.
The device serving -to produce -variations of current for the reproduction of -from in a loudspeaker (fig. to and 6) </ B> is of the usual photoelectric type, comprising the photocell, an exciter lamp, an optical system, and means for entraining the film between the optical system and the photocell.
The excitation lamp -of the -device serving to produce variations -current is indicated in 100 and is mounted in a 4-position adjustable socket inside -of the box 101. The light emitted by -this lamp passes to through the optical system, indicated (the general way in 102, which will be described in detail later , and it is concentrated by it on the sound recording tape of the film, which is, entered on the peripheral surface of the drum 108,
-this sound recording strip being located cantilever beyond the inner edge of the drum. After passing through through the film, the light returns against the reflecting surface 104, where it is reflected to through the opening 105 on the photoelectric cell 200, - say placed inside - the base 21.
The film is applied against the drum 1.03 by an idler roller 106, which keeps the film strongly in engagement with the drum at this point. After having passed around the drum for a sufficient distance to ensure a good pressure contact, the film passes over the roll 107 and then around the roll 108, the latter roller being mounted on a shaft carrying at its other end the flywheel 109 (fig. 3), and -à </ B > from this roll 108, 'the film goes back -then on the toothed drum 38 (fio ,. 4), as described above. The,
The outer surface of the roller 108 has preferably been roughened by sandblasting, so as to ensure a suitable frictional contact on the small surface we have. The handwheel 109 serves to -prevent irregularities from being introduced into the movement of the film, so that the entire device serving to </ B > producing -varia-good -current will function -in a uniform manner, without any flutter or variation in film speed.
The drum 103 can turn on a shaft 110, # c * mme ' shown in fig. 6. The interior of #this drum is hollow and has a flat annular friction surface 111. Against this friction surface , -suitable pressure pads 112 (of which three or more may be provided- and which -preferably made of a composition such as -leather or oiled felt) are urged by springs 113. It will be noted that this friction means 112, cooperating with the surface 111, produces a uniform braking action on the drum 103,
-so that the film is wound forcefully around the drum 103 and the two following rollers 107, 1.08. The braking action of the drum 103, by producing a constant resistance in this place, also prevents any tendency -of the drum to oscillate in one direction and -in the other around its axis, as it would be the case up to a certain de-ré if there was no braking or slowing action.
The optical system, generally indicated as 102, consists (fig. 6) of a cylindrical lens. 120, of a -diameter enough, large -and to vertical axis, that is to say parallel to the direction of movement -of the film and to the lonaitudinal axis of the soundtrack -of the film; this cylindrical lens that has a focal length such as light coming from. the lamp 100, follows concentrated on the lens 121.
This lens 121 is likewise a cylindrical lens, but has a very short focal length; this focal length is in fact so small that the errors normally existing in such a lens are negligible. The focal length of this lens is found besides, with the vertical diameter of the luminous element -of the lamp 100, -in a ratio such as a linear image, having the appropriate width. - ble, will, be formed in the, transverse direction of the sound recording tape of the film.
This lens 121 is Io 'g6e in a small recess, mena-é -dans the front face of the box containing the optical system; on this lens rests the part 122, having in the longitudinal direction the shape of a U, with a recess in the bottom of PU to receive the lens 121 and keep it strong in the recess in the box.
The two parallel sides of the U, shaped piece 122, are spaced apart from each other at a distance to the axial dimension of the lens 120, - including Î the faces of ex- irémitc ',
are arranged parallel to the sides of the PUI these comprise a recess to cooperate with the cylindrical side surface of the lens 120; the part 122 thus maintains the two lenses 120, 121. in exactly relative position per pendicular. The part 1.22 passes through through a slit in the part 123; the lens 120 also passes through this slot and rests by its cylindrically optical surface against the ends of this slot.
The end of the part 123, which protrudes as shown in fig. 6, cooperates with a slot or mechanical groove in the support arm 124, which is integral with the base: 21. It will be understood that the surfaces of the lens 120, and therefore also the surfaces of the lens 121, will be kept permanently in alignment, with respect to the frame of the machine, and that if the groove or slit is suitably placed with respect to to the longitudinal axis of the film, the above-mentioned linear image will be placed in the correct position in the transverse direction of the. soundtrack of the film.
A From the sound recording tape, the light naturally diverges and then meets the reflective surface 104, and, as previously described, passes through through the aperture < B> 105 on the photocell, which is mounted inside the inside of the auxiliary base 21. The flange 128 -of the roller of pressure 106 is fixed, while its flange 129 is pushed against the film by a spring, which maintains the edge of the film, corresponding to the sound recording tape, with force tD against the flange, # 128 and determine exactly the location of this sound recording tape relative to the device being used to produce variations in current.
The photoelectric cell 200, being rather sensitive to shocks, jolts and vibrations, is mounted on a -suit-suitable- moves damped. In the case considered, it is preferable to achieve this result by an elastic frame, below the base of the apparatus, this elastic frame being supplied with rods 201, supporting the socket of the photoelectric cell and the -shell for the amplifier tube 2.24, which is the first 4-,
ube amplifier following the photoelectric cell and which is preferably of the to aril-screen type. This mount, in one piece, z # for the photocell and the first amplifier tube, prevents any relative oscillation movement, of the conductor going # to the,,
grid of this tube and thus tends to to reduce noise. A inside the same part of the box are also mounted the capacitors 202 and the flywheel 109, and this part is closed by a cover, as shown at 203 -in fig. 9; this cover can be smoothed over screws 204 'and is held in position by screws 205, thus constituting a sealed envelope to </ B> light for the photoelectric cell -and simultaneously protecting, electrically and magnetically, à the, both the photoelectric, # c-eI1uIe and the amplifier tube à high amplification rate.
The power transformer is placed in 206 and feeds a rectifier tube 280, to supply plate current, to the aml tubes ') lifiers; this current of. plate is wire tré passing through the condensers 202 and a suitable reactance coil which, in 1% of the considered example, is also used as the inducing magnet of the speaker dy- namic.
The other tubes of the amplifier are mounted along the rear edge ile the base 2.0; the sockets are fixed to the lower part of the base and the conductors are arranged above; the connections will be -described -below with reference to in fig. 18.
The bush 208, at the front of the base 20 in fig. 2, is intended to receive the contact card 5209 from the loudspeaker, with which it cooperates in a manner which will be deerit below with reference to fig. 18.
Having thus -described the mechanical construction of the projection device and -of the positive device serving to produce current variations, it will now be described the mechanical construction of the loudspeaker which is employed here in combination with these (fig. 16 and 17).
For the transport of this loudspeaker, provision is made for a box 300, preferably more or less similar in dimensions - and as general aspect to the box 10 used for the transport of the projection device.
The interior of this 300 box has two or more compartments for -of-film reels, which usually sew into an empty reel and as many other reels. as desired.
The remainder -of the interior space of the 300 box is occupied by the loudspeaker itself, which is of the usual -dynamic type, generally indicated -in < B> 301 and whose inductor magnet -is wound in such a way to fulfill this role appropriately -and at the same time the role of a reaction coil, forming a filter, in the supply line.
This loudspeaker is mounted on a ring 303, as-usual with of such loudspeakers, and this panel has -slightly smaller dimensions to those -of the box 300, used for transport, so that the whole loudspeaker and the panel on which it is mounted can be enclosed in the box used for transport, as shown in fig. 17.
A the lower part of the panel 303 are fixed, arms 304 and 305, which are arranged so to </ B > fit -in appropriately shaped notches, menacred -in the upper part of the partition 306, dividing the interior of the box; these arms are -of a length such that they also adapt to the interior of the box, used for transport, when the loudspeaker is in the posi reversed tion.
When the loudspeaker is open and ready to operate, the lower edge of panel 303 rests on the upper edge of the front wall of the box 300, which then serves also as part of the panel, and the arms 30,4 and 305 are engaged in the notches provided in the upper edge of the partition 306, thus preventing a -movement of the panel relative to this position.
As a considerable length of flexible cable -is necessary to bring current to the speaker and for its return, it is expected, to the back of the panel. 303, a pair of 307 arms on which this cable can be coiled, thus allowing the speaker assembly to be removed from the box. transport without appreciable difficulty and if without any danger of entangling this cable which carries at its other end the connector plug 209, previously mentioned.
The loudspeaker can be permanently fixed in the box used for transport, which can then have a suitable opening for the emission of sound, but in such a construction #compartments are also provided to receive the film reels. .
The electrical connections of the device are described below, with reference to the fio ,. 18.
Alternating current, -preferably at 110 volts -and at 60 periods, is supplied to from one line through the usual z # socket plug 500, and the circuit from this lio, does not divide into -two. One of these circuits contains switch 501, motor 502 and lamp, projection 503. These are connected in parallel, so - that the projection-lamp will not work., unless the engine is running, thus avoiding the need, es, sitë_ # to provide a fire-extinguisher.
The motor being of the type with phase offset auxiliary, compares the capacitor 504 -in one -of its circuits. The other circuit contains the switch 505 and the transformer primary winding 506, but, in order to protect the filter and the amplifiers, it is connected < B> to c # 4 primary winding stepping through terminals 507 and 508 of socket 208. These terminals cooperate with terminals 507 ' and 508' of the contact form 209. which are connected to each other.
It will be understood that the circuit, starting from the line at 110 volts, going through the primary winding 506 -of the power transformer, n . </ B > is, not closed at unless the speaker plug 2909 is pushed into the socket 208 and the current < B> at high potential, coming from the circuit ile, the amplifier, cannot thus pass, as will be described # hereafter, by the inductor winding to 17 of the top- speaker.
The power transformer has three windings. a winding 510, which provides the proper potential for the fila- -nents or heating elements of the various tubes, preferably at about '2.5 volts, a winding 511 , which provides the high potential necessary for the plate current, and a -winding 512, which serves to heat the filament of the rectifier tube 280 .
The filter circuit is of the usual type; the cathode of tube 280 is connected directly to line 513, which transmits the plate current to the various tubes of the amplifier, and the plates of the tube 280 are connected; at the ends of, 511 middle input of the transformer, which supplies the current at high potential.
From, Penroul-ament 512, the current passes, through the various tubes to line 52f) and then to the socket 519 , 208, which cooperates with È- # ot 518 of file 209 to bring the current to the inductor winding 517 of the loudspeaker, returning first through the contacts 516 and 515 to the socket in the middle of the winding at high poLential 511. Capacitors 514 and 521 are connected to from of line < B> 513 to each terminal of the inductor winding, respec- tively,
the values of these two filter capacitors being of the order of ten micro-farads. Part of the current passing through line 520 is divided and returns directly to, I middle winding 511 passing through resistor R, the drop, potential being used for the polarization of the grids of the tubes 245, -245 '.
The heating circuits> of the various tubes are not shown directly; it is obvious that the conductors shown, of these tubes will be connected to, the winding 510.
An oscillating -circuit, generally or generally- indicated by the part of the diagram designated by 522, is connected to the -power supply device which comes from be -described. This oscillating circuit is of the usual type shown, but can naturally be any equivalent oscillating circuit; the output current, of this circuit, which is collected by the coil 523, is supplied to the exciter lamp 524.
This oscillator is given a frequency high enough so that there is no appreciable change in the temperature of the filament duringlap, # riod -, o, s, cillation, and hum at the buzzer, due to a change in the temperature of the filament of the exciter lamp, is thus avoided. Please note that the frequency of the oscillator need not be greater than the audible frequency, as long as it is, sufficiently high to avoid a noticeable change in the temperature of the filament during the half-period of oscillation, and this period of time -is -determined by the characteristics of the excitatrioe lamp,
used, a thicker filament allowing a lower oscillation frequency than a thin filament. Because of this fact, you y should choose the. frequency taking into account the price of the oscillator, the space required by it, and the characteristics of the exciter lamp which is available.
From the excitation lamp 5.24, the lights as previously described, are transmitted through through the film to the electric photocell 5M. < / B> This is supplied with the suitable potential by passing through the potentiometer 52.6 which cooperates with the resistance elements 527 and 528, on which is mounted in (1 ,, _ # rivation the capacitor 5,29. The cathode of the tube à2jà is connected to the grid of the first amplifier tube 224. This, tube 22.4 is preferably,
of the with grid-screen with heating -indirect, comprising an amplification -of high potential -and is coupled by resistance, in the usual way shown, to the tube 227, which is connected, through capacitance, 530, to the push-pull transformer 531. This transformer -is connected to grids of tubes 245 -and 245 'in the ha way, usually in push-pull,
these tubes being suitable -power tubes and giving sufficient -current output to properly operate the loudspeaker;
the plates of these tubes are connected, passing through the tran, .gformateiir 53,2, to the line 533, </ B > qui -con-duit, by plots 534 and 535, to la. coil 5S6 of the dy- namic loudspeaker, returning to the transformer 532 through the pads 518 and 519 and by line line 520 to the earth -and to the filaments of tubes 245 and 245 '.
It results. from the above that a complete amplifier is obtained, which is capable of receiving a very compact and light construction -and which at the same time gives to a great amplification of potential and a great -power , and which, therefore, -con comes particularly to this kind of device.
The volume of the sound is adjusted by adjusting the potential of the photocell 525 by means of the potentiometer 526 and the tone can be varied by operating the 'switch 538, which is used to short-circuit the capacitor 539.
One of the important details is the connection of the power supply device, through plug 209 and socket 208, to protect the amplifier. < B> - The apparatus described also includes -means to prevent the buzzing or humming of the amplifier -of # it. These means do not require any - and precisely and are very light - in weight.
The loudspeaker field of 15 henry is the only inductor in the filter circuit. The means envisaged are constituted by a resistor and to capacitor network, a network which prevents the buzzing of all the tubes without having to make any adjustments to # it. .
The hum current -is sent to through Resistor 5-B to the plate of tube 2297. The grid and plate -of this last are effectively -shifted -by 180 ' in terms of their phases. The buzz current sent to the amplifier tube 224 is printed at the grid of the tube 9.27 -and finally at the plate of this last after being magnified to about seven and a half times.
This hum current will cancel out with the hum current passing through through resistor 5-R, if these two currents are equal in intensity. This can be achieved by means of a filter consisting of resistor 2-B and capacitor 16-C, filter which reduces the hum current going to the grid - tube 227 seven times -and -demi before being amplified.
The means which have just been described will reduce; the buzz current volts , at 0.002 volts using a certain tube 224, but it is -possible that the buzz-current passing through it does not neutralize not at all that of another tube. It has been found, therefore, that it is necessary to connect the tube, 224 also to the water supply intended to prevent humming, since the phase and intensity of the drone current nement: from one tube varies for -different tubes.
The hum-current from the heating element of the tube 2.24 -is reduced to a minimum by a network similar to that used to remove the current of filling of the plate.
The hum current from the heating element is printed to the screen grid as well as the plate. The voltage of the hum current -depends on the characteristics of the 20-C capacitor and 10-R resistor. If the capacitance is large and the resistance small, the. pickup voltage will be -small.
For judicious characteristics of the capacity 20-C and -of the resistance 10-R, this voltage can be made equal to to one eighth of the voltage taken on the plate to from the - heating element. Without other circumstances, the hum current of the heating element would be neutralized, regardless of its phase or its intensity.
In the present case, the buzz current from the heater element is also received by the control gate and the buzz current from B </ I > is sent to the grid-eoran via resistor 4-R, -and in general 4 , all the resistors in the circuit to tubes produce more or less hum.
The judicious characteristics of the 2-R, 10-R ,, 4-R, 9-R, 8-B resistors and the 16-C and 9A-C capacitors can be determined by experiments with a large number of tube. These units and tubes can vary within wide limits without seriously affecting the hum. The greatest buzz is most often from the 245 emission tubes and depends on the operating conditions of the latter without the adjustable transformer 53.2.
The apparatus described is not only compact and portable, but also has a to quality of image and sound reproduction which is comparable to that of large installations. expensive using standard film.
