Process for the preparation of a kitpen dye. It has been found that new Küperi dyes of the most varied of color shades can be obtained if halodibenzpyrenchitions or halo-isodibenzpyrenquinones are reacted with nitrogen-containing compounds which contain at least one exchangeable hydrogen atom.
The reaction is expediently carried out in the presence of a solvent, an acid-binding agent and a copper catalyst. Suitable solvents are nitrobenzene, o-cresol, naphthalene, quinoline and others. Sodium acetate, sodium carbonate and the like are used as acid-binding agents, for example copper powder, copper oxide or copper salts such as copper chloride or copper acetate as copper catalyst.
The subject of this patent is a method for the preparation of a vat dye, which is characterized in that 1 mol. P-P'-dibromo-3 . 4 . 8. 9-dibenzpyren- 5. 10-quinone condensed in an organic solvent in the presence of an acid-binding agent and a copper catalyst with heating with 2 mol. 1-aminoanthraquinone.
Example: 98 parts by weight of pure P-P'-dibi, om 3,4.8.9-dibenzpyrene-5.10-quinone of the following formula:
EMI0001.0033
are in 1000 parts by weight of naphthalene with 100 parts by weight of calcined soda, 7 parts by weight of copper oxide and 92 parts by weight of 1-aminoanthraquinone so boiled for a long time with stirring until the reaction product is practically halogen-free.
The dye obtained is isolated either by suction or by distilling off the solvent, the latter optionally under reduced pressure or with steam. It is a violet powder crystallized in fine needles, dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with a purely pinkish red color and delivers strong, clear corinthian-colored tones from excellent washing, chlorine, light and soda cooking on the vegetable fiber from the brown-red vat - and belly authenticity.
