Description

Device for driving a fuel pump feeding several cylinders of an internal combustion engine. It is known that in multi-cylinder internal combustion engines, in particular those with airless fuel injection, the injection time and the power for each individual cylinder must be precisely adjustable. The setting of the injection time point has so far been made, where a special fuel pump is provided for each individual cylinder, by rotating the individual drive cams.

If all or at least several cylinders are provided with fuel by a single fuel pump driven by the control shaft, the fuel pump in question is subjected to the influence of as many cams as cylinders are supplied with fuel by this pump. If the cams for a pump are arranged axially next to one another, the common pump plunger must be made very wide, which gives rise to jamming.

If the cams are fixedly arranged on a disk in one plane, the fuel injection time for several cylinders can only be set together when the cam disk concerned is rotated. It is not possible to regulate the fuel injection time for each individual cylinder; But this is absolutely necessary, especially in different operating conditions.

According to the invention, this disadvantage is avoided by a device for driving a fuel pump feeding several cylinders of an internal combustion engine with several jibs in one plane in that the cams are located on segments which are individually adjustable.

The subject of the invention is illustrated in the drawing in one embodiment; 1 shows a longitudinal section and FIG. 2 a detail, while FIG. 3 shows a section along the line A-A of FIG. 1 and FIG. 4 shows a section along the line B-B of FIG.

The camshaft a is driven by the gear wheel b. The flange c of the cam shaft a, which is screwed to the gear b, is provided with slots for the fastening screws f, which allow a rotation of the gear relative to the camshaft a by 15. In the flange c and in the gear b, four groups of holes e for the tapered pins p are arranged in such a way that an adjustment of the gear b against the flange c of the shaft a from 2.5 to 2.5 within the limits of 15 is made possible.

To drive the fuel pump, not signed, four cams sit on segments g on the flange h of the cam shaft a screwed on by means of a loose centering ring i, which are provided with slots n for the fastening screws k with the nuts 0.

The individual cam segments g have so much play with one another that each individual cam segment can be rotated into any position within the angle determined by the slots n. The individual cam segments y are fixed using adjusting wedges 1. The hexagonal nuts in can be used to change the axial position of the adjusting wedges 1.

If a cam segment is to be rotated, the nut o of the fastening screw k and the nut na. Of the adjusting wedge arranged in front of the relevant cam segment, seen in the direction of rotation, are to be loosened. The nut is then to be tightened in the adjusting wedge arranged behind the relevant segment, seen in the direction of rotation, until the cam segment is rotated into the desired position.

The nut of the front adjusting wedge is then to be pulled out so far that the cam segment is secured, and the cam is then to be clamped again by tightening the nut o of the screw bolt 7e.

In order to be able to determine the position of the cam segments in relation to the top dead center, a mark is attached to the gear b and a graduation of 2.5 to 2.5 over 15 on the mounting flange c of the cam shaft a. The cam segments also carry a brand and their fastening flange appropriately an associated fine division.
