Au dessin annexé età titre d'exemple: La fig. 1 représente une vue schématique d'un dispositif suivant Pinvention utilisant le courant continu d'une génératrice; La fig. 2 représente une vue- analogue d'un dispositif utilisant le courant alternatif débité par un transformateur et rectifié par un dispositif redresseur;
Lighting device with instantaneous light emissions. The present invention relates to a lighting device of the known type in which flashes or instantaneous light emissions are produced in rarefied gas or vapor tubes. , at determined frequency, for example to illuminate an object to to study and produce the usual stroboscopic appearances. This device is characterized in that, to illuminate the gas tube, the discharge of at least one capacitor constantly connected to a current source, the device thus being immediately restored to provide a flash, the instant of which is determined by means whose action does not depend on the phenomenon of the charge.
The moment of discharge of the condenser can be regulated by an appropriate triggering device, closing the circuit formed by the condenser and the gas tube, with or without contact, which allows, in the latter case, to establish -., the circuit without friction ment of metal parts. The spark will then emerge if the voltage is sufficient.
When the, voltage is insufficient to trigger_Pétincelle, we can still close the circuit without contact by using an auxiliary spark that starts the main circuit by lighting the tube.
In general, the triggering organ will cause discharges at regular intervals. In the case of application to stroboscopic studies, this triggering member will constitute a synchronizer, causing instantaneous lighting at a determined frequency.
In the accompanying drawing and to by way of example: FIG. 1 shows a schematic view of a device according to the invention using the direct current of a generator ; FIG. 2 shows an analogous view of a device using the alternating current supplied by a transformer and rectified by a rectifier device ;
Figs. 3 and 4 represent in plan and in section a mode of triggering of the illumination. means of a pendulum , Figs. -5 to 13 schematically show some practical embodiments of an assembly comprising an auxiliary starting circuit mounted as a branch on the main circuit; Figs. 14 to 19 show schematically arrangements in which this auxiliary circuit is connected to the main circuit by using additional electrodes provided on the tube.
The device shown to in FIG. 1 contains - A capacitor 1 and its re-charge group, composed in particular of an electric motor 2 and a generator with direct current 3, whose poles are joined to those of the capacitor 1, by means of a resistor 4 or d a choke, or the combination of the two, or in any other way to avoid short-circuiting the generator at the moment of the flash.
A disc 5 is mounted on an axis 6 and carries one or more insulated metal parts 7, so to </ B > have as many lightning bolts for everything as Pon wants, which close the circuit of the capacitor 1 through the intermediary of two sparks of adjustable length, bursting between the room 7 </ B> and two adjustable tips 8, , the adjustment of which makes it possible to limit the duration of the discharge in the event that the latter has an oscillatory nature, and to specify as follows: the moment of lightning.
In certain cases, the triggering may also have siwplemeiit link by contact with metal parts.
The 5 disc is driven by a titi motor 9, preferably electric, which can, in general, be of very low power, especially when no contact or friction is comes to oppose his movement.
The disc can form sufficient flying titi bridge- obtain ut) uniform movement to serve as a comparison tarnish, when it comes to highlighting the irregularities of the movements of an object by the copy strobos. It </ B> can also be made as light as you want to be subjected to whatever movement of law in the event that it is necessary.
A brake and a 10 rheostat can be added to the motor to synchronize its speed with that of the object under study. This brake can be constituted by a fan 11, mounted on the axis and which is closed more or less the air inlet or outlet, this process allowing in some cases a sensitive adjustment. .
The disc 5 can be replaced, if this arrangement lends itself better to the studies which one has in view, by titi pendulum 12 (fig. 3 and 4) provided with two contacts 13 (close the circuit to him when they pass over a series of conductive points 14, or by any other part animated by an appropriate movement and causing the release of discharges in the lighting tube.
The installation of fig. 1 is completed by a titi spark gap 15 and a rarefied gas tube 16 where the flash will occur at the time of each passage of the current, the spark gap and the lamp being connected in series in the circuit of the capacitor 1 and the points 7, 8. At the end of each passage of part 7 between the two points 8, the capacitor discharges- in the circuit formed by-. the condenser 1, the tips 7 and 8, the spark gap 15 and the tube 16 ,
by producing a flash in the tube 16. The adjustable spark gap 15 serves to limit the duration of the discharge, in case where this would have an oscillatory character, in order to specify the instant of the flash. Finally, it should be noted that this device allows the use of currents of considerable intensity, because the current is established without contact or friction, the deterioration of the parts which make up the breaker is low. importance. This device therefore lends itself to the lighting of an entire room or of a stroboscopic scene, allowing studies in conditions of convenience and luminosity which are particularly advantageous for de- < / B> monstrations in front of the audience.
The high voltage source, instead of being a direct current generator which keeps a constant voltage between its terminals, can be constituted by an alternating current transformer, transforming current at ordinary low voltage into alternating current at high voltage, which can then be recovered by known means : Kenotrons , tubes with mercury vapors, switch, electrolytic valve, etc., the voltage being kept practically constant à by means of an auxiliary capacitor forming a reservoir of energy by compared to the lighting capacitor.
The installation comprises, like that shown in in fig. 1, a gas tube 20 and a lighting capacitor 25, whose discharge in this tube is regulated by the passage of tips < B> 7, closing the peak circuit 8.
The installation is completed by a reservoir condenser 18, whose capacity is large compared to to that of 25, and which is constantly maintained charged by any means, for example by the current of a transformer 17, rectified by the Kenetron 19.
It is this capacitor 18 which is used to charge the lighting capacitor 25 between each flash, via an inductor or a resistor 24, intended to prevent the reservoir capacitor 18 from discharging through through the tube 20 in same time as capacitor 215.
-This arrangement has the following interest: assuming that between two flashes of the gas tube to very close together, the undulating current emitted by the Kenotron has not had time to < / B> go through a maximum, the capacitor 18, if it was alone, would be completely de- charged by the first flash and Would not have time to reload for the next flash. On the other hand, with the assembly described, it is the small capacitor 25 which will be discharged in the lighting tube and the capacitor 18 will play , vis-à-vis the other, the role of an accumulator ac constituting a substantially constant reserve since only a small part of its reserve is taken from it for each instantaneous light.
For the case where the voltage of the main current source, respectively the voltage at the terminals of the capacitor or capacitors mentioned would be too low to trigger the spark between the 7 and 8 tips, a -26 source (fig. 1) at high voltage, but of flow very low, can be connected directly to the spark gap terminals. The auxiliary one produced by this source will have the effect of initiating the discharge current of the capacitor.
Figs. 5 to 13 represent arrangements in which the current which determines the ignition only passes through the trigger or syn chroniser. The auxiliary spark thus produced initiates the discharge of the capacitor in the lighting tube.
The voltage at the terminals of the lighting tube may then be insufficient to cause ignition, due to the resistance of this tube, or else the voltage at the poles of the spark gaps may be insufficient to cause a spark. The auxiliary circuit mounted in branching on the main circuit and which is closed at the moment desired by the trigger or synchronizer, supplies a low energy current. but of high voltage, sufficient in any case to initiate the discharge in the tube or the passage of the spark in the spark gap.
In all fig. 5 to 13 the main lighting circuit includes a capacitor A, supplied by an external source (not shown) such as those already described ; </ B> one pole of this capacitor is put to the earth, the other being connected in 3L to the main circuit.
In the device represented to in fig. 5 the lighting circuit connects the voltage pole 31 to the spark gap 32, to the tube 33 and to land 34.
The generator 32 is shunted by an auxiliary circuit, comprising the secondary 35 of a transformer and a capacitor 36. The primary 37 of this transformer is interposed in a circuit which is itself supplied with 38 and 39 by a continuous external source (not shown). This circuit finally comprises a breaker 40, mechanically controlled, at adjustable speed, and. serving as trigger or synchronizer.
At each break, the high voltage current, produced in the secondary, initiates a cry 32 spark, which allows the passage of the main current which illuminates the tube.
In the device shown to in FIG. 6, the lighting circuit and the spark gap branch circuit are analogous, but the primary 37 of the transformer is supplied by a capacitor 41. A mechanically controlled contactor 42, at adjustable speed, and serving as trigger or synchronizer, connects capacitor 41, sometimes with its charge source, sometimes with primary 37, in which it is discharged instantaneously, cry giving birth, in the secondary 35 , to a current which starts the spark at 32 as before.
The transformer can be such that this current is a high frequency current.
An advantage of this device is that it can operate on contact, instead of operating at breaking as in the previous case, this which allows a better determination. nation of the moment of lighting, thanks there I absence of breaking arcs.
Fig. 7 represents a variant of this device, according to which the capacitor 41 is constantly charged at the terminals 38 and 89. A resistor 41a prevents the short- circuit between 38 and â9 at the moment of contact in 40.
According to the device shown to in FIG. 8, the lighting circuit connects the voltage pole 31. to tube 33, to the spark gap 32 </ B > and to earth 34. Tube 3ï--) is shunted by a circuit comprising the secondary 135 and the capacitor 36, l The spark gap 32 is shunted by a circuit comprising the same secondary 35 and the capacitor 36 '. The primary 37 is supplied by any one of the previous devices, for example by the contactor 42 and the condenser 41.
The initiation of the discharge illuminating the tube 33 takes place, on the one hand, by ignition of the spark at 32 and, on the other hand, by ionization of the contents of tube 33.
Figs. 9, 10, 11, on which, moreover, the lighting circuit is the only one fully represented, show the different positions that can be occupied in this circuits the tube 33 and the spark gap 32, as well as difi- Small positions ,, of the starting circuit, and can be completed by Either of the devices previously described (fig. to to 7).
Figs. 12 and 13 represent the case where the secondary of a starting transformer is mounted in the lighting circuit. In the case of FIG. 1_2, the primary 37 can be mounted according to one or the other of the devices described above, and, in fig. 13, the primary 37 is made up of a few turns of the secondary itself, forming an autotransformer.
Of course in these two figures the relative positions of the generator 32, of the tube 33 and of the secondary 35 can be interchanged.
In order to connect the ignition circuit directly to the gas or steam lamp, the latter may also include one or more Additional electrodes mounted on the circuit controlled by the apparatus responsible for determining at the desired times the starting current.
This allows in particular the elimination of the spark gap in the lighting circuit of the lamp, while allowing to the ignition to take place regularly. The elimination of this spark gap itself has, among other advantages, the restriction of the noise of the spark gap and the possibility of the use of lower voltages at the light source. Such an arrangement is particularly suitable when using steam lamps.
Figs. 14 to 19 represent, to by way of example, six embodiments of this assembly.
Current from the light source (fig. 14, 15, 16 and 17) is fed directly to the lighting electrodes 48, 49 of lamp to gas 43, by wires -14 and 45 (or by more of two wires and two electrodes, in particular if the lighting current is polyphase).
Cou-, age is brought by the son 46 and rant amore 47 ending, in the case of FIGS. 16 and 171 to two additional priming electrodes 50, 51 .. One of the electrodes small starting point also consist of one of the illumination electrodes, for example electrode 48, as shown in fig. 14 and 15. These starting electrodes can be real electrodes inside the lamp, as indicated (fig. 14 and 17),
or one of them or both to at the same time can be constituted by an external frame to the lamp, for example a simple metal frame, near or even to distance from the outside of the lamp tube, or a sheet of metal surrounding this tube, as shown in fig. 15 and 16. This frame can even be practically constituted by the reflector of the lamp.
'A capacitor 52, intended to accumulate electrical energy during periods of non-illumination of the lamp and to produce instantaneous illumination at the time of ignition , is placed as a shunt on the lighting electrodes 48, 49.
This switch 52 has a further - role, thanks to the drop in voltage which it produces on the line immediately after its discharge, of preventing the lamp to remain on by the current of the line, in particular in the case of lamps, such as mercury vapor lamps, which remain on once priming has been carried out.
It is thus possible to use mercury vapor tubes (fig. 18). According to the arrangement of this figure, the priming circuit is connected to the tube by the one of the electrodes 48 and by 50 Parmature of the usual lamp ignition capacitor. These electrodes are mounted on the circuit 46, 47 of the trigger device. The lighting capacitor 52 may be an electrolytic capacitor having a large capacity, in the case of low voltages at lighting.
If polyphase currents, for example three-phase currents are used as lighting source, a lamp with four lighting electrodes 48, 49 can be mounted (fig. 19) , 4911, 491, and capacitors 52, 52 '# I, 52b, between each lighting electrode and electrode 48 to which ends with the neutral wire 45 of the three-phase.
The devices according to the present invention and which include an auxiliary starting circuit, independently of their applications to stroboscopic studies, can serve as to tube to lighting devices. gases, such as those used for illuminated advertisements. The use of an auxiliary circuit, of aniorcage allows, as we have already seen below, 'to use as. lighting source a source with low voltage much less than that which would be necessary to directly strike the tube.
As a result, they can also be used to obtain powerful illumination in marine and aerial lighthouses by using, as light source, gas tubes supplied by the gas tubes. discharges of a capacitor adjusted at time required by the devices described above, the voltage of this capacitor being able to be notably lower than the starting voltage of the tube.
Of course, the invention is not limited to any particular constructive provision, those indicated schematically having been chosen only by way of example.
