Method and apparatus for the continuous sterilization of liquids, in particular milk9, by constantly conveying them through heated tubes. * The subject matter of the present invention is a method and apparatus for the continuous sterilization of liquids, especially milk, by constantly conveying them through heated tubes.
The procedure consists in that the liquid, after it has left the heating tubes, is led to a chamber with lower pressure, from which the vapors which develop from the liquid are led back to the stimulus tubes with condensation. Furthermore, heat is withdrawn from the sterilized liquid and the fresh liquid to be treated is preheated.
The apparatus for carrying out the method consists in that the heating tubes are connected via a pressure valve to an evaporation chamber, the vapor space of which is connected to the feed line of the heating tubes, while the liquid space below is connected to at least one discharge line.
The apparatus according to the present invention is shown schematically on the drawing in an exemplary embodiment.
The milk or the liquid to be treated is continuously fed to the latter by a pump 3, which is switched on between a feed container 1 and heating tubes 2. The heating tubes 2 who are formed from coils. After leaving the heating tubes, the milk flows resp. the liquid through a pipe 4 provided with a pressure valve 5 into the evaporation chamber 6, in which approximately atmospheric pressure is present, because the same is in communication with the open feed container 1 through a pipe 7.
The liquid space of the chamber 6 is connected to the feed pipe of the pump 3 by a pipe 8 which is provided with a float valve 9, whereby a desired liquid level can be maintained in the chamber 6. From the lower part of the chamber 6, a pipe 10 also leads to the cooler 11, which also consists of coiled pipes. This cooler is in turn connected via a valve or a tap 12 to one or more filling lines, which are not illustrated in the drawing.
Since the liquid in the heating tubes is under a higher than atmospheric pressure, the boiling point of the same is also higher than at normal air pressure. By adjusting the pressure valve mentioned, it can be achieved that the liquid passes through the pressure valve 5 at a boiling point of 130 ° C., for example. However, since the pressure in the chamber 6, as also mentioned, is approximately the same as that in the feed container, that is to say atmospheric pressure, part of the liquid immediately evaporates. These vapors, which develop at approximately 100 ° C., are fed through the pipe 7 to the feed container 1, where they condense in the fresh liquid and at the same time preheat it.
The sterilized liquid collects at the bottom of the evaporation chamber and is taken there in the manner still to be described.
If the valve or cock 12 is closed sen or if the amount of milk set respectively by the pump 3, circulation. If the amount of liquid is greater than the amount of liquid filled in at the same time, more liquid will enter the chamber 6 than it is withdrawn, and the level will therefore rise. When the same has reached a certain height, the float valve 9 opens and the liquid is fed back through the pipe 8 to the feed pipe of the pump 3 and from this again put into circulation through the heating pipes. This process continues as long as the liquid level in the chamber 6 has sunken again so far that the float valve 9 closes.
If at a certain moment the amount of liquid filled is greater than the amount circulating through the heating tubes at the same time, it is. any disturbance in the circulation is excluded, since the quantity of liquid present in the chamber 6 is sufficiently large to compensate for any differences that arise.
In order to generate the pressure that is needed to bezw the milk. To allow liquid to flow through the cooler and the filling device, the container 6 is expediently placed higher than the mentioned apparatus parts. The construction of the apparatus can, however, also be such that the heating tubes or the heating tubes and the cooler are arranged together at the same height as the evaporation chamber 6, in which case the downpipe 10 is only attached after the cooler.
The point at which the pressure valve is installed in the connecting pipe between the heating tubes and the evaporation chamber can also be selected as desired, and the arrangement can be made directly after the heating tubes.
So that the circulation of the milk respectively. the liquid is always going on in the correct sense, that is, in the direction towards the heating tubes, one or more steam shut-off valves 13 are switched on in the feed tube.
The float valve 9 can be regulated in such a way that only a third or a sixth of the amount flows through the cooler, which is repeatedly set in circulation through the heating tubes.
If the machine works so that the milk resp. If the liquid is repeatedly circulated through the heating tubes, the system can be used for the production of condensed milk. In this case, however, the pipe 7 would be omitted, so that the milk vapors can no longer condense in the fresh or circulating milk; these would rather be led to a capacitor of lower pressure, which is not shown in the drawing.
What is achieved by the present invention is that the consumption of heating means, for example steam, can be reduced compared to the previous methods and apparatus. A reduction in the coolant is also achieved when using the cooling tubes in which the sterilized liq fluid respectively. Milk is cooled for filling.
