Control device for steam pump. The invention a. for object a control device for a steam pump, comprising a valve ù, main steam for the arrival of steam to it, actuated by a main piston to which a fluid under pressure is automatically admitted depending on variations in a fluid pressure to be maintained by the pump, by means of at least one auxiliary valve controlled by a movable control member cooperating with it,
said main piston being housed inside a cylinder enclosed in an outer casing connected to the body of the main valve, so as to allow easy access to this valve and to its associated parts. The easy accessibility of the main valve has the advantage of facilitating repairs, visits and reassembly.
The attached drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention, of the duplex type, that is to say 2 heavies auxiliary control valves, for a pump steam as used in air brakes on railroad lototives to supply the brake line.
Fig. 1 is an overall vertical section; Fig. 2 is a detailed key section taken along line II II of FIG. 1.
The device shown in the drawing comprises a valve body 1 with a chamber 2 to be connected by a pipe 3 to a source of steam supply and a chamber 4 to be connected by a pipe 5 to the air pump to be connected. steam operated. For the rle adjustment of the arrival of steam from chamber 2 to chamber 4, the mobile valve 6 cooperates with a removable seat 7, the latter being screwed into the wall 8 which separates the chambers 2 and 4.
The valve 6 is connected by a rod 10 to a piston 9 and this piston is housed in a vertical cylinder 11 provided with a lateral fixing rim 12. A bell-shaped envelope box 1.3 surrounds the cylinder 11. The rim fixing 12 is engaged between the body & valve 1 and the box 13 and the whole is assembled by bolts 16.
In a head at the top (the box 1 are chambers 17 and 18; the (1a.ni- ber- 17 contains a flexible diaphragm 19 held in place by a washer 20 and the chamber 18 contains a diaphragm 21 hand held in place by a washer 22. 'A box 1:
i is screwed into the box 13 and blocks the washer 22 and a screwed socket 23. in the box 13 blocks the washer 20. A box 1.1 screwed into the sleeve 23 contains an adjustable coil spring 24 which presses on the diaphragm 19 and the upper end of which abuts against a nut 25 screwed on a threaded adjustment rod 26 which passes through the box 11 ct is fixed by a nut 27. The nut 25 a. ia form of a cam which corresponds to the contour.
of the box 1.1 (fig. 2) which: contains the spring 21 so that the nut binds the small peas when turning the threaded rod 226. The same: provisions are made for the box and similar parts are designated, -., by the same numbers: reference.
In the key partition 28 between the chambers 17 and 18 and the chamber 32, and below the center of each of the diameters 19. 21 is mounted a valve box 29 containing an auxiliary control valve 30 actuated by the valve. d-iaphrabme colitrc # which it is kept applied by the spring 31.
The valves 30 control the communication between the chambers 17 and 18 and a chamber 32 which, through a conduit. 3-f, is in permanent communication with a chamber 33 inside the box-envelope 13.
Mounting. by means of bolts, the box 1 3 with the auxiliary valves on the body 1 -containing the main valve 6 allows to easily separate the two parts.
It will be noted that the cylinder 11 of the main valve 6 control unit 6 is confined in the bell-shaped casing 13 and thus protection is obtained against rough handling, for example- hammer blows which are a.appliquf, sometimes in. court. walking in the iron rheinins. when the device is slow to start.
