Description
"Metal tin can for a product food ".
1. Field of the invention The present invention relates to a box of metal can, for the preservation of a product food sterilized by heat treatment after closing the box.
2. Prior Art In a traditional way, as shown in the figure 1, the cans were formed by a portion of rectangular sheet 10 folded and welded so as to forming a body, a bottom 11 and a lid 12 formed of sheet metal plates being assembled at both ends of this body. Such a tin can is called box three pieces because it implements three elements segregated by welding or crimping.
More recently, as shown in Figure 2, tin cans were produced by stamping sheet metal, so-called flank, so as to form in one one-piece body 20 the bottom and the side wall of the body of the box. A cover 23 formed of a sheet metal plate then allows to close this box. Such boxes, whose bottom and side wall form a single piece, are called two-piece boxes.
As shown in Figure 3, which is a section of the box of Figure 2, this box presents a variable thickness, depending on the height in the box, in a range of + 25% to -25% of the initial thickness of the flank.
Another stamping technology, commonly called "DWI" technology (from the English Drawn and Wall Ironing, in French: stamping and drawing or stamping and ironing) was developed, making it possible to form "two-piece" boxes whose side wall is stretched. Figure 4 is a section of such a box 30. The thickness e of the center of the bottom 31 of this box is substantially equal to the thickness of the flank having been stamped. The bottom thickness is included between + 0% and -15% of this thickness e, its implementation form that can cause local thinning.
On the other hand, the thickness e 'of the wall 33 is reduced to 20% of the thickness e of the center of the background. The cover 32 has the thickness e "of the sheet metal in which it was formed.
This DWI technology makes it possible to produce boxes, hereinafter referred to as drawn-wall boxes, lighter than other types of boxes. Their characteristics make them advantageous for a use as a beverage can, but they remain little suitable for use as cans of foodstuffs. Indeed, the latter must be subject, after their closure, to sterilization by heat treatment which induces variations, positive and negative, of the internal pressure in the box.
The most commonly stretched wall boxes used and in particular the drink cans, are not adapted to such pressure variations.
The use of such boxes to contain products food is therefore of little interest, and therefore remains rare.
WO 2011/077033. Objectives of the invention The present invention aims to overcome these disadvantages of the prior art.
In particular, the invention aims to supply metal cans for the preservation of a sterilized food product by a heat treatment after closing the box, using an optimized amount of material.
Another object of the invention is to provide such boxes including sterilization by treatment thermal, after closing, is facilitated and consumes a minimal amount of energy.
WO 2011/07703
The invention also aims to enable the manufacture and easy implementation of such boxes, making maximum use of equipment and elements identical or similar to those used for boxes of the prior art.
4. Presentation of the invention These goals, as well as others that will appear more clearly afterwards, are reached by a box canned metal, for the preservation of a product food sterilized by heat treatment after the closure of the box, consisting of a one-piece body forming the bottom and the side wall of the box, and a lid assembled on this body to close it, the minimum thickness of the side wall being included, between 20% and 60% of the thickness of the center of the bottom, the height of the box being included, according to the invention, between 1.5 and 3.5 times its width, and preferably between 1.7 and 3 times, and the bottom and / or the lid of the box having a convex central wall towards the outside connected to the side wall by a throat device opening outward.
Such a tin can be made with an optimized amount of material, and can undergo a sterilization heat treatment without damage and in consuming less energy than art boxes prior.
Preferably, the internal pressure of the box is above atmospheric pressure.
This feature, in combination with the other characteristics of the box according to the invention, contributes to the rigidity of the box.
Advantageously, said peripheral groove presents a first wall connected to the convex central wall, a second wall linked to a peripheral zone of connection to the side wall of the box, and a bottom forming a rounded, and.
the first wall forms an angle of between 2 and 45 with the axis of the box, - the connection between the first wall and the wall center forms a rounding radius greater than 0.5 mm, - the depth of the groove is between 1 mm and 7 mm, and - the rounding of the bottom of the throat has a radius less than 5 mm.
A bottom or cover presenting these features allows the box to present a good held to the internal pressure.
According to an advantageous embodiment, the cover consists of a disc made of of steel, the capacity of the can is 212 ml, 425 ml or 850 ml, and these contents are associated respectively covers of diameter of 52 mm, 65 mm or 83 mm.

According to an advantageous embodiment, moldings are formed on the side wall of the body of way to increase its resistance to external pressure.
5. List of figures Other goals, benefits and features of the invention will appear more clearly in the following description of a preferred embodiment, not limited to the object and scope of this patent application, accompanied by drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a schematic representation elements constituting a tin can of the type "three pieces" of the prior art;
FIG. 2 is a schematic representation elements constituting a tin can of the type "two pieces" of the prior art;
6 - la figure 3 est une section de la boîte de la figure 2 ;
- la figure 4 est une section d'une boîte à paroi étirée de l'art antérieur ;
- 99 mm pour les boîtes de contenance 850 ml ;
- 83 mm pour les boîtes de contenance 425 ml ;
Une technique classique pour renforcer cette rigidité consiste à former des moulures sur le corps de la boîte pour améliorer sa résistance à la pression externe latérale. Ces moulures ne favorisent cependant pas la résistance de la boîte à un effort vertical. 6 - Figure 3 is a section of the box of the Figure 2;
FIG. 4 is a section of a wall box stretched from the prior art;
FIG. 5 is a section of a box of canned according to one embodiment of the invention.
6. Detailed description of an embodiment of the invention Three-piece cans and two-piece boxes produced by stamping classic have a thickness varying between + 25% and -25% of the thickness of the sidewall used. To optimize the amount of metal used to manufacture such a box of a given capacity, the diameter D of the box is close to its height h.
Thus, standard dimensions have been defined by the profession for boxes intended to contain food products, in particular EN 13 025 13 029, for example by implementing lids forming discs of diameter:
- 99 mm for the 850 ml capacity cans;
- 83 mm for the 425 ml capacity cans;
- 65 mm for containers of 212 ml These dimensions, conventionally used, allow to obtain boxes having a diameter that does not differ from its height of more than 20%, with a quantity of optimized material.
Due to its small thickness, the side wall the body of a box with a stretched wall does not present naturally a satisfactory rigidity in the face of external constraints.
A classic technique to reinforce this rigidity is to form moldings on the body of the box to improve its resistance to pressure external lateral. These moldings, however, do not favor not the resistance of the box to a vertical effort.
The side wall 43 of this box has been stretched with DWI technology. So, its thickness e 'the weakest is between 20% and 60%, and preferably between 30% and 50%, of the thickness e of middle of the bottom 41.
To reinforce the rigidity of this box, we adds to its contents, before its closure, a substance which, by vaporizing, will bring an overpressure to inside the box. This substance, which can example of being liquid nitrogen, has the effect of stiffen the pressurized box and improve its resistance to both external lateral pressure and the vertical force.
Food cans must, unlike beverage cans, be subject to sterilization by heat treatment after their closure. This sterilization, which involves a heating of the contents of the box at a temperature from about 110.degree. C. to 150.degree. C. (preferably from 110.degree.
135), generates an increase in the pressure in the box up to about 3 bars. This increase is more important for pressurized boxes in which the pressure can reach 5 bars.
In general, the side wall of the box is deforms very little under the effect of this pressure. Only the bottom and lid deform, and allow expansion of the box, thus limiting the increase of the internal pressure during the process of sterilization. For a given volume box, the possible expansion of the bottom and lid is all more important than their sizes are important.
The person skilled in the art was therefore convinced until day that to undergo heat treatment after their closure, the drawn-wall boxes had to present a bottom and a lid of sufficiently large size
Practically, these boxes present the usual proportions of boxes of canned containing food, whose diameter is close to the height.
As determined by the inventors, for optimize the amount of metal used for make a pressurized stretch-walled box a given capacity, the height h of the box must be more important than its diameter D. This height must be between 1.5 and 3.5 times, and preferably between 1.7 and 3 times its diameter D.
As a result, the classical proportions of boxes intended to contain food products Until now, it has not been possible to optimize the amount of material from the drawn wall boxes. The man of profession was made to think that the use of boxes with a stretched wall was of little interest for the products food.
The box 40 shown in FIG.
height h which is between 1.7 and 3 times its diameter D, which makes it possible to optimize the quantity of metal used for its manufacture.
To allow the heat treatment of this box 40 without generating excessive internal pressure, the cover 42 and the bottom 41 have a shape particular having a central wall, respectively 421 and 411, convex to outside, connected to the side wall of the box by a peripheral groove, respectively 420 and 410, opening outwards. This particular form facilitates the elastic deformation of the bottom and lid in case of internal overpressure. Funds and lids of this type are known in themselves, and are especially described in EP 1 813 540.
The lid 42 thus presents a central wall 421,
In this cover 42, the first wall 423 forms an angle of about 45, and in any case understood between 2 and 45 with the axis of the box; the connection between the first wall 423 and the central wall forms a rounded radius greater than 0.5 mm; the depth of the groove 422 is between 1 mm and 7 mm; and the rounding the bottom 425 of the groove has a radius less than 5 mm.
Similarly, the bottom 41 presents:
a central wall 411, a peripheral zone 412 of connection with the side wall 43 of the box, a peripheral groove 410 presenting a first wall 413 connected to the central wall 411, a second wall 414 linked to the peripheral zone 412, and a 415 background forming a rounded.
In this bottom, the first wall 413 forms an angle approximately 5, and in any case between 2 and 45 with the axis of the box; the connection between the first wall 413 and the central wall 411 forms a rounded radius greater than 0.5 mm; the depth of the groove 410 is between 1 mm and 7 mm; and the rounding the bottom 415 of the groove has a radius of less than 5 mm.
Gorges 410 and 420 presenting these features facilitate deformation respectively of the bottom and the lid of the box 40. Thus, when the box 40 is heated during its heat treatment, the increase in its internal pressure causes the deformation, temporary and reversible, of the background 41 and the cover 42, thereby increasing the internal volume of the box. This increase in volume makes it possible to limit effective pressure in the box 40 to values not not likely to damage it.
The cover 42 and the bottom 41 allowing a 5 better resistance to internal pressure, so it is possible to make a box with a stretched wall pressurized which can be sterilized by treatment thermal energy, and whose relationship between height and diameter can be chosen so as to optimize the
In other possible embodiments of the invention, it is possible that the lid alone, or that the bottom alone, be designed to present a good resistance to internal pressure.
It should also be noted that the invention does not not limited to bottom and lid profiles represented. Other profiles allowing the box to withstand high pressures can be put in such as those described in the EP 1 813 540.
The volumes of the cans are standardized, in particular by the standards EN 13 025 to 13 029. Changes in the proportions of boxes in view their optimization must therefore be made, from preferably, keeping identical volumes.
Moreover, the sizes of the lids of the boxes canned are also standardized. Respect for these standards by the box manufacturers is important, the laying of the lid for closing the boxes being not made by the manufacturer of boxes, but by the canner that fills the box. The lids used must therefore be suitable for crimping machines used by the canner.
To change the proportions of boxes without require the use of covers of diameters not standardized, it was imagined by the inventors of size the boxes, for each standard capacity,
Enfin, la quantité totale de matière métallique qui est chauffée lors de la stérilisation 11 in such a way that they can be closed by standard covers usually used to close boxes of lower capacity.
Thus, it is advantageous for closed boxes by lids formed in discs made of steel base, to use:
- covers with a diameter of 52 mm for containers with a capacity of 212 ml, - covers with a diameter of 65 mm for containers with a capacity of 425 ml, - covers with a diameter of 83 mm for cans of 850 ml capacity.
For boxes closed by shaped lids in discs made of aluminum-based material, it is advantageous to use:
- covers with a diameter of 52 mm for containers with a capacity of 212 ml, - covers with a diameter of 63.7 mm for containers with a capacity of 425 ml, - lids with a diameter of 81.5 mm for cans of 850 ml capacity.
These combinations make it easy to manufacture boxes with proportions close to optimized proportions.
Boxes with the characteristics of the invention can be thermally sterilized more quickly and using less energy than boxes of the prior art. Indeed, the proportions of these boxes allow them to present a more surface significant heat exchange with the outside, which facilitates their heating. In addition, the thickness of food to heat in the box is less important, because of the small width thereof. The walls the lateral ones being less thick, they transmit better the heat. Finally, the total amount of material metal that is heated during sterilization
Boxes with the characteristics of the invention may also have dimensions making them suitable for more efficient storage and more compact. For example, a type of pallet used has a length of 1200 mm, a width of 800 mm, and its height must be between 1000 and 1030 mm.
On such a pallet, it is possible to store 1860 classic boxes of 425 ml, presenting a diameter 73 mm for a height of 101.54 mm. These boxes are rows in 10 layers of 186 boxes. On the other hand, it is possible to store 1960 boxes of the same volume according to the invention having a diameter of 65 mm for a height of 128.08 mm. These boxes are then placed in 8 layers of 245 boxes. The invention thus makes it possible to place 100 more boxes on each pallet than in art previous, 2,400 more boxes in a truck carrying 24 pallets. It allows accordingly realize substantial savings on the costs of transport.
It should be noted that the size of the lid is not necessarily equal to the width of the wall side of the box. It is indeed possible to predict a retreint at the top of this side wall, allowing to crimp a lid of smaller size than the width of the wall. It is also possible, in some cases, to crimp a lid of larger dimension as the width of the box.
The present invention can be implemented for boxes closed by dimension covers between 20 mm and 153 mm. However, she is preferably for boxes closed by covers of dimensions between 52 mm and 99 mm.
In a particular embodiment of the invention, it is possible to conform the walls
13 side of the box so as to form moldings therein to improve its resistance to pressure external.
The present invention applies mainly to cylindrical cans, with almost cylindrical, with polygonal section boxes (hexagonal, octagonal ...), with boxes whose walls sideways are slightly domed, or still to boxes of different shapes likely to present the same proportions.
The body of the box, constituting its bottom and its side walls, is also covered by this asks regardless of its lid, especially if it has the features that allow it to to form a box according to the invention when it is associated with a usual cover not being conformed for deform.
