Abstract

Abstract The present invention relates to the umbrella cover for use with an umbrella structure having a plurality of umbrella ribs. The cover is comprised of a normally planar cover cloth coupled to the umbrella structure. The cover cloth has a warp extending in a first direction and a weft extending in a second orthogonal direction. The cover cloth has a closed stepped outer contour which defines a plurality of perimeter edges disposed in a parallel relationship with either the warp or the weft. The perimeter edges define a plurality of vertices for respective coupling to end portions of the plurality of umbrella ribs.

THE UMBRELLA COVER CONSTRUCTURE OF NON-AXIS
CONNECTIVE LINE

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an umbrella cover construction having a non-axis connective line, and more particularly to an umbrella cover construction which forms a S shape for an umbrella cover that has the warp and the weft of the material arranged in the parallel and the vertical direction relative to the borderline of the cover in order to obtain a better stretch property and to provide a perfectly curved surface having no wrinkles.
The prior art will be discussed hereinbelow with respect to the drawings.
It is a purpose of the present invention, to mitigate and/or obviate the drawbacks of the prior art in a manner set forth in the detailed description of the preferred embodiment.
A primary objective of the present invention is to provide an umbrella cover construction of a non-axis connective line which can easily be connected with the umbrella ribs. The cover of the present invention forms an entire cover and since it is constructed of a single piece of material it can have a beautiful pattern printed thereon without difficulty.
Another ob~ective of the present invention is to provide - an umbrella cover construction having a non-axis connective line which are provided with the warp and weft of the cover arranged in parallel and vertical directions relative to the - borderline of the cover, so as to form a perfectly curved ~ur~ace when the umbrella is opened.
A further ob~ective of the present invention is to provide an umbrella cover construction having a non-axis connective line, o~ which the manu~acturing process that is ea~y to complete. A

In accordance with one aspect of the invention there is provided an umbrella cover for use with an umbrella structure having a plurality of umbrella ribs, comprising: a normally planar cover cloth coupled to said umbrella structure having a warp extending in a first direction and a weft extending in a second direction, said second direction being orthogonal to said first direction, said cover cloth having a closed stepped outer contour defining a plurality of perimeter edges disposed in parallel relationship with either said warp or said weft, and said perimeter edges defining a plurality of vertices for respective coupling to end portions of said plurality of umbrella ribs.
Further objectives and advantages of the present invention will become apparent as the following description proceeds. The present invention will be described in detail hereinbelow with the aid of the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIG. 1 is an illustrated structure of a preferred embodiment in accordance with the present invention;
FIG. 2 is a detailed view of the warp and the weft of the cover relative to the borderline of the cover:
FIG. 3 is an illustrated structure of another preferred embodiment in accordance with the present invention;
FIG. 4 is an illustrated structure of a further preferred embodiment in accordance with the present invention: and FIG. 5 is an illu6trated structure of prior umbrella cover with gores and sutures thereon.
It hae now become a tendency in the manufacture of high j quality umbrella covers to simplify the tailoring process, to¦ 30 minimize the amount of labour, and to provide a complete pattern printing on the cover cloth. It can be seen that a conventional cover, as shown in FIG. 5, i9 comprised of a plurality of gores 8 according to the number of umbrella ribs.
The gores 8 are sewn together to form a whole umbrella cover with a plurality of ~eams 81 equal to the number of umbrella ribs. This construction makes it difficult to print thereon a ¢omplete pattern having a natural beauty.

: " ,, . ~ -_ 3 _ 203 4 66q Moreover, the manufacturing process of the prior cover is difficult, time consuming and has a high-cost. These features do not agree with good economic principles. Further, the known cover can seldom provide a perfectly curved surface when the umbrella cover is opened because the warp and the weft of the cover are not arranged in the parallel and the vertical directions relative to the borderline of the umbrella cover itself.
Referring to FIG. 1, it can be seen that the present invention comprises a main cover 1 with parallel and vertical warp and weft construction, which is provided for use with ribs of an umbrella that are spaced at unequal intervals. A
slit 2 is provided at the central point of the cover l to accommodate the top end of the umbrella frame to be inserted therein. The ribs remain below the cover and connect the top end of the frame with protruding points 11 at the edge of the umbrella cover by means of stitching. When the umbrella ribs are stretched, the umbrella cover 1 thus provides a natural stretch ability since the fabric construction is arranged to provide twilled meshes against the radial lines. Therefore, the umbrella cover 1 forms a curved surface with the lateral sides of the umbrella cover 1 been arranged to provide straight meshes, and the curved surface of the umbrella cover 1 is perfectly stretched like a drum cover without any wrinkles. No connecting stitching is required along the radial lines. Since the entire umbrella cover is one piece, it is possible to print a full pattern thereon without destroying the continuity of the pattern which can occur when printed pieces are connected to form the cover.
Referring to another example of the present invention as shown in FIG. 2, the umbrella includes twelve ribs. The umbrella cover 3 comprises a main cloth piece 4 sewn to four supplementary cover cloth pieces 5. It can be seen that the borderline 6 of the umbrella cover 3 including the main cloth 4 and the supplementary covers 5 are arranged to provide straight meshes ~uch that the wrap and the weft are arranged in par~llel and vertical directions relative to the borderline 6 of t~e cover 3.

' 203466q ~ eferring now to FIGS. 3 and 4, it is to be understood that the two further preferred embodiments are possible making use of other shapes of umbrellas having a different number of ribs and shapes. The umbrella cover in FIG. 3 has a zigzag periphery. The various embodiment shown in FIG. 3 have various numbers of this zigzag arrangement. The embodiment of FIG. 4 is provided with triangular shaped supplementary cloth pieces 7 to obtain a whole cover having a shape which is similar to the known prior cover 8.
It is the characterization of the present invention that the warp and the weft of the cloth along the edges of the cover be arranged in parallel and vertical directions relative to the borderline of the cover itself in order to form a perfectly curved surface without axial connective lines.

Claims (3)

1. An umbrella cover for use with an umbrella structure having a plurality of umbrella ribs, comprising:
a normally planar cover cloth coupled to said umbrella structure having a warp extending a first direction and a weft extending in a second direction, said second direction being orthogonal to said first direction, said cover cloth having a closed stepped outer contour defining a plurality of perimeter edges disposed in parallel relationship with either said warp or said weft, and said perimeter edges defining a plurality of vertices for respective coupling to end portions of said plurality of umbrella ribs.
2. The umbrella cover as recited in claim 1 where said normally planar cover cloth is formed in one-piece formation.
3. The umbrella cover as recited in claim 1 further comprising a plurality of supplementary cover cloth members, each of said plurality of supplementary cover cloth members being coupled to a respective one of said plurality of peripheral edges of said planar cover cloth, each of said plurality of supplementary cover cloth members defining at least one vertex for coupling with one of said plurality of umbrella ribs.
