Abstract

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE
A collapsible saw-horse is disclosed, comprising a beam and two frames extending side by side from the underside and longitudinally of the beam, and each forming a pair of legs for supporting the beam. Each frame consists of a single bent tubular member defining two upright leg portions and an intermediate bight portion at the lower end of the leg portions. The upper ends of the leg portions are bent back and inserted within brackets secured to the underside of the beam. One frame is rigidly secured to the brackets by screws extending through the brackets to take a collapsed position parallel to the first frame and an operative beam-supporting position diverging from the first frame. A pair of pivoted toggle arms link the two frames to prevent the pivotable frame from spreading beyond a predetermined limit angle with respect to the fixed frame.

DETAILED DSCRIPTION OF_THE I:UENTIOD
Saw~horee 1 includu~ u beam ~, prefarably made o~ wood, and supported by firs~ and aecond W-ahaped similar fra~e~ 3 and 4 extend-ing side by side from the undsrside and longitudinally of beam 1. Eaeh frame 3 or 4 consists of single bent tubular ~Gmber~ o~ ~uitably rig$d ~aterial and d~fining an intsr~ediate bight port~on interconn w ting the lower ends of t~o upright leg portiono 3' and 4', resp~cti~ely; the upper end portion of ~ch leg portion 3' and 4', reapectivsly, ia bent inwardly, ae shown at 5, and theaa upper snd portions 5 ar~ in axial alignment. Th~ entire length of each frome 3 or 4 li8~ ln a co~en plane. The inter~ediate bight portion 18 Quntrally bsnt to for~ an lnvertud U and to da~ine an upper csntral portion 6 wh$ch i8 in axlal . . . .

~.Z3B77 alignm~nt w$th the portions 5.
Thr~ tran~versely-orlent~d and longitudinally ~paced-apart brscket~ 7 escure each o~ the frameo 3 and 4 to the bs~m 2.
Each breckat 7 1~ Pormed with a flat central portlon 7~
and two out~urdly and downwardly curved flsnge portione 7". Oracketo 7 ~re each rigidly ~ecured to b0am 2 by a head bolt ~ flnd nut 9, ~ho~n in Fig. 4. Nut 9 i8 prevented ~rom loosening because it fits between ths two portiong 7"' connecting respectlvo portion~ 7~ to central portion 7'.
Flqnge portions 7" retain the portlons 5 and the middl~
upper portion 6 o~ e~ch ~re~eO Fram~ 4 iB piuotally r~talned, wher~a~ ~rame 3 i8 rigidly retsined at a predetermined transverse obtuse angle relatl~- to beam 2 by means of self-tapping screw 10 (shown in Fig. 4), whlch extends through flsnga portion 7~ and portions 5 and 6.
The toggle arms 11 are pivotally 3ecurHd to each other and to the aosoclated outer uprlght leg portions 3' and 4' of frames 3 and 4. There i~ a p3~ r of such toggle ar~s at each end o~ sQw~hor~3 1.
It w~ll be obvious that when framee 3 and 4 ar~ ~played apart in use po~ition, 8 strong and rlgidly ~ecure structure io obtained. To collapee saw-horse 1 into a s~orage or carrying con~lg-uration, toggle arms 11 are o$~ply pivoted upwurdly and ~rame 4 pivoted inwardly to u position substantially parallel ~ith frame 3, a8 ~hown in Figure 3. ~ea~ 2 retains its original angular pog~tion wlth reapect to frame 3.
Figure~ 6 and 7 ~how an alternativa embodiment of the`
invention. Saw-horss 1' is identical to saw-horse 1, except that fram~s 3 and 4 are U-~haped, having a low~r hur~zontal and ~tralght bight portion 12.
