Abstract
"PROCESSO PARA REMOVER ENXOFRE DE MATERIAIS CARBONáCEOS CONTENDO ENXOFRE, MATERIAL CARBONáCEO DE ENXOFRE REDUZIDO, E, óLEO BRUTO PESADO DA CALIFóRNIA TRATADO". Materiais carbonáceos contendo enxofre são dessulfurizados através de reação com uma mistura de um agente oxidante e um solvente oxigenado tais como éter dietílico sob condições alcalinas em uma temperatura preferivelmente variando de temperatura ambiente até cerca de 250°F (121°C) e uma pressão preferida de cerca de 1 a 2 atmosferas. O uso de radiação - tal como raio X, infravermelho, luz visível, microonda ou radiação ultravioleta, radiação alfa, beta, ou gama, outras, radiações atómicas emanando de um material radioativo, ou ultrassom - facilita a dessulfurização. Os produtos da reação são um material carbonáceo dessulfurizado em que o conteúdo de enxofre é (por exemplo) menor do que cerca de 1% e é separado dos compostos de enxofre.
