Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method for preparing a solution of magnesium nitrate from natural magnesite and nitric acid. The magnesium nitrate solution obtained according to the process of the invention is intended for direct use for the introduction of magnesium nitrate as an additive in the production of ammonium nitrate fertilizer.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
It is known that when natural magnesite interacts with nitric acid, an acid decomposition reaction takes place:
MgCO3 + 2HNO3 = Mg(NO3)2 + СО2 + Н2О (1)MgCO 3 + 2HNO 3 = Mg (NO 3 ) 2 + CO 2 + H 2 O (1)
At the same time, nitric acid interacts with the impurities contained in natural magnesite - typically: calcium carbonate and oxides of iron and aluminum, silicon and others.
СаСО3 + 2HNO3 = Ca(NO3)2 + СО2 + Н2О (2)CaCO 3 + 2HNO 3 = Ca (NO 3 ) 2 + CO 2 + H 2 O (2)
R2O3 + 6HNO3 = 2R(NO3)3 + ЗН2О (3)R 2 O 3 + 6HNO 3 = 2R (NO 3) 3 + H 2 O (3)
A reaction mixture is obtained containing magnesium nitrate, water and other reaction products with the impurities contained in the magnesite. In order to use the magnesium nitrate thus obtained as an additive for the production of ammonium nitrate fertilizer, it must be free of unwanted impurities that would otherwise fall into the final product - ammonium nitrate. Appropriate precipitation methods with different reagents and subsequent filtration are used to remove the precipitate.
A disadvantage of the existing methods for producing magnesium nitrate from natural magnesite and nitric acid is that reaction (1) proceeds with a low degree of extraction of magnesium from magnesite. In practice, periodic processes are used in which the acid decomposition takes place in flow reactors with displacement, with a fixed grain layer of natural magnesite with or without blowing with air, with periodic or continuous removal of the solution from the reaction volume. The purpose of air bubbling is to break down the boundary layer between the solid and liquid phases and to allow the solid phase to come into contact with a liquid with a higher acid concentration. Suspension of magnesite in the liquid phase by air bubbling is inefficient and practically impossible in the entire reactor volume. The use of a periodically operating reactor creates conditions for the formation of colloidal screens on the surface of magnesite, where the process takes place in the diffusion region and significantly reduces the reaction rate and the degree of extraction of magnesium. In addition to the loss of magnesite, environmental problems are created related to the disposal of large amounts of waste sludge with a high content of nitric acid and the need to clean the bubbling air of nitric oxides and nitric acid.
железен нитрат-Fc/NO,),. According to [1], magnesite with a size of 0.5-4.0 μm is decomposed with nitric acid at a concentration of 40%. A reaction product with a concentration of 37-39% Mg (NO 3 ) 2 and a degree of magnesium recovery, expressed as MgO 90.2-91.7%, is obtained. The solution also contains free nitric acid and soluble nitrates of impurities found in magnesite: calcium nitrate-Ca / ΝΟ, φ. iron nitrate-Fc / NO,) ,. aluminum nitrate-A1 (NO 3 ) 3 , etc., as well as insoluble in nitric acid impurities of magnesite.
The reduction of acidity by neutralizing the free nitric acid converts the iron and silicon compounds contained in the raw material, passed into the solution in insoluble forms. Neutralization to pH 3-4 and separation of the resulting precipitate gives a filtrate, which is an aqueous solution of magnesium nitrate, calcium nitrate, ammonium salts of metasilicic acid and iron. Ammonia of the suspension to pH 7-8 is required to completely separate the iron from the filtrate in the form of Fe (OH) 3 . At these pH values, iron is released as a precipitate of Fe (OH) 3 , but increases the loss of magnesium, which is converted to Mg (OH) 2 and mixed with the precipitate.
For example, European Patent [2] describes a batch process for the preparation of a solution of magnesium nitrate, in which impurities of iron and aluminum pass into the precipitate during the filtration process. For this purpose, the process of decomposition of magnesite with nitric acid is carried out under selected conditions, guaranteeing a final pH of the reaction product from 5.0 to 6.0. According to the authors initial
Descriptions of issued patents for inventions № 05.2 / 31.05.2019 The raw material magnesium carbonate, which is in the form of fine particles with a size of 50 to 200 microns, is pre-suspended in water. Nitric acid is added to the suspension in a small deficiency - about 90% of the stoichiometrically calculated amount, which does not guarantee complete decomposition of the various types of natural magnesite and leads to magnesium loss.
The use of natural magnesite as a raw material for the production of magnesium nitrate for the production of ammonium nitrate fertilizer creates preconditions for a variable composition of impurities in it.
According to a patent of Russian authors [3], in order to reduce impurities in the magnesium nitrate solution, it is treated with barium compounds in a stoichiometric ratio to the sulfates in the product.
In publication [4], barium compounds were used to purify the magnesium nitrate solution from both sulphates and chlorides.
[5].The calcium content of the reaction solution can be reduced by further treatment and precipitation with compounds containing sulfuric acid-sulfuric acid and the like. [5].
