VERBETERINGSOKTROOI
BELL TELEPHONE MANUFACTURING COMPANY
Naamloze Vennootschap Francis Wellesplein l B-2018 Antwerpen
CANNAERTS
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

IMPROVEMENT PATTERN
BELL TELEPHONE MANUFACTURING COMPANY
Public Company Francis Wellesplein l B-2018 Antwerp
Belgium Application for a fourth improvement patent to the Belgian patent No. 905.921 filed on December 16, 1986 for: TELECOMMUNICATIONS DEVICE AND CHAINS USED IN IT Inventor: E. MOONS-J. CANNAERTS
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The present invention relates to a telecommunication circuit comprising a transmission chain in which an electrodynamic microphone is coupled to a transmission medium.
Such a telecommunication circuit is well known in the art, for example from British patent application 8317706. In contrast to a carbon microphone, an electrodynamic microphone has the disadvantage of being sensitive to background noise so that this noise is transmitted through the transmission chain to the transmission medium and is a nuisance.
An object of the invention is to provide a telecommunication circuit of the type described above, but which does not have this drawback.
According to the invention, this object is achieved in that this electrodynamic microphone in this transmission chain is coupled to this transmission medium via a signal attenuation circuit which attenuates the AC voltage signal originating from this microphone if it does not exceed at least a specific threshold.
Another feature of the present telecommunication circuit is that this signal attenuation circuit attenuates this AC voltage signal when it is between two well-defined first and second thresholds.
Yet another feature of this telecommunication chain is that these thresholds define the area within which the background noise is located.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Thus, the background noise is weakened so that it is no longer a nuisance.
The above-mentioned and other objects and features of the invention will become more apparent and the invention itself will be best understood from the following description of an exemplary embodiment and from the accompanying drawing which represents a telecommunications circuit according to the invention.
This chain works with the supply voltages VCC, V and B and is used as background noise detection chain in the Belgian patent application no. Q @ Sti, also filed today, with the title "Telecommunication device and chains used therein".
This device is coupled to a center via a line, one of the conductors of which is represented by the usual ground symbol in the drawing, and comprises a transmitter circuit in which an electrodynamic microphone is coupled to the line via amplifier chains. VCC is a regulated voltage, a reference DC voltage represented by a triangle and B is a constant bias voltage.
The circuit shown has a signal input terminal INS on which an AC voltage signal S superimposed on a DC voltage signal V and an offset DC voltage signal v due to used operational amplifiers is supplied from said microphone and amplifier circuits (both not shown), two reference input terminals INT1 and INT2 on which respective threshold voltage signals V-V1 and V + V1 are laid, and two output terminals 01 and 02 which, as shown in the above patent application, are connected, for example, to a weakening circuit CC and a gain control circuit GRC1, respectively.
VI and VI are constant voltage thresholds that are such
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
chosen that the background noise is between them. The signal input terminal INS is connected, on the one hand to the output terminal 01 via the resistor R1 and, on the other hand, via the amplification circuit AS and the DC blocking capacitor C1 in series, to the signal input IS of the comparator circuit COC. The series resistor R1, together with the resistor R2 and the NMOS transistor switch NM1, which are connected in series between terminals 01 and V, forms a controlled resistive voltage divider. Transistor NM1 is controlled from inputs IS, INT1 and INT2 via the series connection of the comparator circuit COC and a capacitor charge and discharge circuit CDC.
The comparator circuit COC includes the operational amplifiers OA1 and OA2 with outputs constituting the inputs of a NAND gate NAND whose output is the input of COC. The non-inverting input of OA1 and the inverting input of OA2 form the signal input IS which is connected to V via the resistor R3. The inverting input of OA1 and the non-inverting input of OA2 form the respective inputs INT1 and INT2.
In the capacitor charge and discharge circuit CDC, the capacitor C2 is connected between ground and the junction of the gate electrode of NMI and the drain electrode of PMOS transistor PM1 and NMOS transistor NM2 whose gate electrodes are controlled by the output signal of the NAND gate NAND.
The capacitor charge circuit includes the series connection between VCC and ground of the drain-to-source paths of PM2 and PMI and capacitor C2. The capacitor discharge circuit comprises the series connection between ground and V of the capacitor C2 and the drain-to-source paths of the NMOS transistors NM2 and NM3. Finally, the circuit CDC comprises a current source which supplies a constant current 11 and is formed by the PMOS transistor PM3 whose source and
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
gate electrodes are connected to VCC and B, respectively, and whose drain electrode is connected to V via the drain-to-source path of NMOS transistor NM4. This transistor NM3 is connected as a diode because its drain gate electrodes are short-circuited. The gate electrodes of PM3 and NM4 are connected to those of PM2 and NM3, respectively, which form current mirrors for the current 11.
The chain works as follows:
When the said 5 + V + v input signal is applied to the input INS, it is applied on the one hand to the output terminal 01 via the resistor R1 and on the other hand to the signal terminal IS of the comparator circuit COC via the amplifier circuit AS and the capacitor C1 in series.
The direct voltage portion d. w. z. V + v, removed from the input signal, but V is added back to S by the connection of the terminal IS to V via R3. The signal applied to IS is therefore S + V. In OA1 and OA2, this signal S + V is compared with V-V1 and V + V1, respectively, so that the output signal of OA1 is equal to 1 if S> -V1 and to 0 if S <-V1 e while that of OA2 is equal to 1 if S <V1 and to 0 if S> V1.
This means that VNAND is at 0 if the AC signal S is included between-VI and + V1, and at 1 if it is either greater than VI or less than-VI.
In the first case, transistor PM1 becomes conductive so that capacitor C2 charges between VCC and ground through transistors PM2 and PM1. This charging is done linearly because the charging current 11 is constant. If the gate source voltage of NM1 exceeds its threshold voltage, this transistor becomes conductive so that R2 is then connected between terminals 01 and V and the AC voltage signal S is attenuated.
If the output signal of NAND is at 1,
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
transistor NM2 becomes conductive so that capacitor C2 then discharges to V through transistors NM2 and NM3. This discharge is also linear because the discharge current 11 is constant. If the gate source voltage of NM1 falls below its threshold voltage, this transistor is blocked so that the connection between R2 and V is then broken and the AC voltage input signal S is not attenuated.
Although the principles of the invention have been described above with reference to certain embodiments and modifications thereof, it is clear that the description is given by way of example only and the invention is not limited thereto.
