Dans notre description, nous supposerons comme connu le fonctionnement du charriot élévateur (sytème classique de vérin hydraulique).

C'est un réglage hydraulique qui permet l'ouverture de la pince, la distance entre la fourche E et le pressoir F sera bien entendu déterminé par les dimensions de l'objet à manutentionner.

  
La FOURCHE E est munie de dents M dont les dimensions s'adaptent exactement aux créneaux vides C de la palette de réception ou de stockage qui supporte l'objet à manutentiouner.Afin de s' adapter très exactement aux dimensions de cet objet et pour

  
des raisons exclusives de sécurité, les dents de la fourche peuvent être escamotables. Lors du fonctionnement de la pince ECTAN, les dents de la fourche M s'interpénètrent très exactement dans les vides de la palette de réception C grâce à un double régalge de l'ajustement :
