<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

Air heating system for powered vehicles *
EMI1.1
..by internal combustion engines.
------------------------------------
Air heating systems are known intended for vehicles propelled by internal combustion engines, systems in which the heating air is reheated using a hot water air heater, of which the The water is heated by means of a hot water calorifier provided with a firebox, additional heating being provided by the heat of the cooling water which leaves the internal combustion engine during the operation of the latter.
In air heating systems known to date, this process was carried out in such a way that the hot water calorifier with combustion chamber received a partial stream of water derived from the cooling water circuit of the combustion engine. internal tion, this current being then directed, after having
EMI1.2
heats more, towards the high air heater, in which a hot water heater was provided.
In addition, the known device already included connectors
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
fitting pipes and reversing valves (switches and pipe switches), which, when the internal combustion engine was stopped, allowed to preheat, or to keep hot, the cooling water of this engine, using the hot water calorifier.
In air heating installations provided in large vehicles, the hot water heating body, provided in the air heater, must give way to the air flowing through it, when the outside temperature is low , a considerable amount of heat per unit of time, because the air must in this case be heated for example from -20 to +78 C. However, as the temperature of the water supplied by the water calorifier hot water must not, for obvious reasons, exceed +95 C for example, this calorifier must be calculated for a considerable water flow and, consequently, also for a significant califying power.
On the other hand, so large a quantity of water preheated to about 80 is available in the cooling water circuit of the internal combustion engine that only part of it can be directed. of this water on the hot water calorifier with combustion chamber, even when this calorifier was calculated, with regard to its water flow rate and its calorific power, in such a way that the conditions enumerated above (air temperature heating 78 for an outside temperature of -20 *) would be fulfilled.
On the basis of the foregoing, and in order to be able to reduce the calorific power and the water flow rate of the hot water heater with a fireplace, the present invention provides in the air channel, a second hot water heating body, in which the cooling water discharged from the internal combustion engine is supplied, bypassing the calorifier
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
hot water fired, this second heating body serving for preheating the heating air.
The arrangement may be such that part of the engine cooling water passes - as in known installations - through the hot water calorifier, while a part, further upstream, of this water, is brought to the second heating body provided in the air channel. The two partial water streams are then returned to the cooling water circuit of the internal combustion engine.
Another embodiment of the invention - in which the cooling water circuit of the internal combustion engine is completely separated from the circuit through which the water highly heated by the hot water calorifier with fireplace runs - consists of this that there is also provided, in the water space of the hot water prérarateur, a water heat exchanger, as is known per se, the circuit of which is also derived from the circuit of the cooling water of the internal combustion engine, while the water, which from ** being heated to a high temperature by the hot water calorifier, is conducted, in a separate circuit, through the first of the two hot water heaters present in the air channel,
the latter water being circulated using a special circulation pump, for example. The water heat exchanger, supplied with water for cooling the engine, can be used for pre-heating the water in the hot water cylinder with a fireplace.
However, the main purpose of this exchanger is to preheat iron or to keep the cooling water in the condition of the installation where the internal combustion engine is stopped.
The invention will be better understood if reference is made to the accompanying drawings, in which FIG. 1 shows the first-mentioned embodiment, while
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
fig. 2 represents the second embodiment of the invention, the two versions being represented schematically and by way of example, in the form of a piping plan.
. In fig. 1, the reference numeral 1 denotes the internal combustion engine and 2 the coolant pump of that engine. The cooling water line 3 branches off at point 4. Part of the cooling water flow goes through line 5, check valve 6, line section 7 and radiator 8 and returns to motor via section of pipe 9. The other part, branched off at point 4, of the cooling water stream, passes through circulation pump 10, after which the pipe branches off again at point 11, this in such a way that part of the stream of water reaches, via line 12, the second hot water heating body 13, provided as a make-up according to the invention, this water being returned to the circuit of cooling water through return line 14.
The other part of the water stream, diverted at the bifurcation point 11, passes - as in the installations known to date - through the hot water calorifier 15 with a fireplace (in the present example constituted by an oil burner ), e3t heated in this calorifier, to the maximum temperature of approximately 95, and reaches, through the pipe section 16, in the hot water heating body 17 provided in the hot water air heater, from where this water also arrives in the return pipe 14. The thermostat 18 ensures, by adjusting the focus of the hot water preparer, and this in a way which has not been shown in particular, that the maximum permissible temperature of the water in the calorifier 15 is not exceeded.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
When, with the internal combustion engine stopped, the installation for the preheating of this engine with the aid of cooling water is alerted, the valve 19 is placed in the position 19a shown above this valve, which has the effect of stopping all water supply to the hot water heating bodies 13 and 17 and directing the water heated by the hot water calorifier 15, through the pipe sections 16 and 16a, to the cooling water circuit, this water passing through the radiator 8, inoperative at this time, and ensuring the preheating of the internal combustion engine 1. It is only in this case that the circulation pump 10 is in service, while it is stopped when the heating is operating, while allowing passage.
In the ion mode according to fig. 2, where the same reference numerals denote members similar to those of FIG. 1, the hot water heating body 17 is interposed, together with the hot water calorifier 15, using pipes 16 and 20, in a particular circuit, in which the water circulation pump is also contained heating 21. The water heat exchanger 22, housed in the hot water calorifier 15, is traversed by part of the cooling water supplied by the internal combustion engine 1, which part returns - ne to the cooling water circuit, via pipe sections 23 and 7.
During normal operation of the heating system, and when the internal combustion engine 1 is running, the circulation pump 10 is stopped and cannot be passed through, so that the water in the water heat exchanger 22, and reheated in utle @ ertaine, does not reach the cooling water circuit. Tap 24 is in position
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
shown at right. On the other hand, when, with the internal combustion engine 1 stopped, the installation is used to preheat the cooling water thereof, the tap 19 is reversed into position 19a and the pump is put on. circulation 10 running.
The water passing through the water heat exchanger 22, water heated by the hot water heater 15, flows through the pipe sections 23 and 7, the radiator 8 and the pipe section. - te 9, to the internal combustion engine 1. The hot water heater 13, located in the air heater, is not crossed by water. When the air heating operates simultaneously, the tap 24 again occupies the position shown on the right, so that the heated water from the hot water calorifier passes through the hot water heating body 17.
