'3) On crée deux moments de rotation distincts et concordants, comme on le montrera ci-après, ces moments de rotation étant tous les deux très impor- tants, ce qui rend facile et sûre la mise en marche de.la broche, même lorsqu'on
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

It is known that the simultaneous twisting (forming of the twist from parallel threads, in a single operation) of the two-ply twists is based on the principle of false twist.
As a whole, this twisting can be schematized as follows: a) the threads which have passed through false twisting devices are then doubled, at the point of formation of the twist. b) the unwinding of the basic threads is free, the take-up being effected mechanically on the twist, c) one of the two threads turns around the spool from which the second thread comes, which is arranged on the same stator.
The doubling of the two threads at the twist point can be done in two ways: a ') the twist point is left free to turn, b') the twist point is kept fixed.
Condition a ') is obtained by applying strictly equal and constant tensions to the two single yarns intended to form the twist, during the doubling.
Condition b ') is achieved by a suitable twisting head, rotating in synchronism with the spindle, and giving the single threads exactly equal feed speeds when doubling.
The rotational movement of the twisting head can be imparted by the outer wire itself, or by individual motors or non-slip belts driven by the same motor member as that which sets the spindle in motion.
The simplest solution is obviously to drive the twisting head by means of the outer thread, forming the ball.
The present invention relates to a twisting head of the type indicated above in b '), which can be driven in rotation by the balloon, and it is based on the following principle: I) false twist of the single threads, II ) free unwinding of the threads - take-up of the twist by mechanical action, III) driving of the head by the thread of the outer spool, at the same time performing the false twist of the thread coming from the inner spool; balancing of the tensions of the two wires; uniform flow (operated by the call of the twist) of the two single threads under their prior tension.
The twisting head according to the invention offers the following main advantages, compared with the known type of twisting head, based on the same principles as above:
1) No substantial modification of the spindles or frame of existing double-twist twist-looms is required, since attachments which can be put on and off at will are used.
The same twisting machine can therefore be used as desired to perform the simultaneous twisting, or the normal double twist, depending on production requirements.
2) The rotational drive of the head can be achieved without using a yarn guide for the outer yarn or the inner yarn, thereby improving the characteristics of the ply.
'3) Two distinct and concordant rotational moments are created, as will be shown below, both of these rotational moments being very large, which makes it easy and safe to start the spindle even. when
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
operates on very thin threads.
4) .Excellent balancing of,; Thread tension can be achieved.
5) Regular twists are obtained without resorting to any high-precision yarn braking means.
6) The threading operation is simplified, thanks to the total absence of thread guides.
.
7) The twist head is very, light and sturdy at the same time, which ensures high safety against personal accidents, and long lasting.
8) The twist head is inexpensive due to its structural simplicity.
The invention will now be described in detail hereinafter, with reference. in the accompanying drawings which show, by way of non-limiting example, one embodiment. In these drawings:
Figure 1 is a front view in * partial section of the twisting head,
Figure 2 is a partial sectional view, taken along line II-II of Figure 1, and,
FIG. 3 is a diagram of an installation comprising the twist head * according to the invention.
This twisting head comprises a U-shaped support 1, the two branches 2 and 3 of which are parallel, but of different length. The head is mounted so that these branches are parallel to the plane * of the rotor of the spindle, the small branch 2 lying above the large branch 3. The small branch 2 is pierced with a conical hole 4 in the head. which is inserted a steel pivot 5 coaxial with the spindle, drilled in the direction of its axis, and supported by a suitable bearing, with double row of balls for example, fixed by means of the bearing holder 7 on the bar 8 which carries, in the normal twisting loom, the thread guides bringing the twist to the take-off mechanism.
'To the support 1 is fixed an age 11 normal to the axis AA of the pivot 5, but offset with respect to this axis, by the amount indicated by a in the drawing, On the axis 11 are fixed the pulleys 9,10 having a groove with asymmetric curved generatrix (see figure * 2), generatrix of which the portion of minimum radius, corresponding to the bottom of the groove, is located in a plane close to the inside face of the pulley. This radius corresponds substantially to the offset a of the axis 11 relative to the plane parallel to this axis, and passing through the axis A-A of the pivot 5. The bottom of the groove of the pulleys 9, 10 is therefore tangent to this plane.
The large branch 3 of the support 1 serves not only to balance the system rotating around the axis of the pivot 5, but also to space the two wires, namely the wire coming from the inner coil, and that coming from the outer coil and forming the ball, these two threads winding in the manner described below in the grooves of the pulleys, and bringing these threads constantly to the same position in the grooves, in order to avoid overlapping of the loops of the thread on the -poulies; it also serves to facilitate the driving in rotation of / = the twisting head, by the effect of the support on this branch 3 of the wire forming the balloon, this support being exerted at an eccentric position relative to the axis of rotation AA.
The support 1, 2, 3 and the pulleys 9 and 10 are preferably made of superpolyamide (especially superpolyamide 6) or other synthetic material of low specific weight, but having high resistance characteristics. Thanks to the use of such materials, the weight of the complete twisting head, with all its accessories, is only about 35-40 g.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The beast works as follows:
The wire 15 coming from the outer spool 14, having passed through a suitable brake, such as a self-tensioning brake with conical grooves, indicated schematically by 16, and the axial cavity of the spindle 17, this wire having formed the ball 15 ', rolls up two or more times on the pulley 9, which it leaves while remaining in the plane parallel to the axis of the pulleys, and passing through the axis AA of rotation of the head, this plane being, as mentioned above, tangent to the circle corresponding to the bottom of the groove of the pulleys, the wire thus reaches the doubling point X, where the wire is doubled in a triangle with the wire 19 of the spool 18 mounted on the stator, and coming from the other pulley 10, as explained below.
The wire 19 of the inner coil 18 having passed through the brake indicated schematically at 20, rests on the side opposite to the wire 15 on the branch 3 which thus separates the two wires 15 and 19, and it is wound up on the pulley 10 in exactly the same way as the outer wire 15 on the pulley 9. It leaves the pulley 10 always in the same way as the wire 15, while keeping in the same plane as indicated above, and in the direction symmetrical, towards the point X where the wire 19 joins in a triangle the wire 15, with which it runs, exactly, along the axis of the pivot 5, in the bore or axial channel 6 of the latter, forming the twisted.
It is obvious that the single yarns 15 and 19 thus receive their preliminary tension, which they nevertheless retain that they are carried by the hens on which they wind up, until the moment of their doubling and the formation of the twisted.
The unwinding of the threads under the tension which is imposed on them is only operated by the twist itself, which sets in motion the two pulleys integral with one another, pulleys on which several turns are wound (2 or 3) of the yarns, in order to prevent any slippage of the two single yarns which should contribute to the formation of the twist. It is therefore evident that, even if the tensions of the two rows downstream of the pulleys were not perfectly equal and constant, while both being high enough to prevent the slipping of the threads on the grooves of the pulleys, the twist will incorporate exactly equal lengths of single wires.
