<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

la fig. 7 est une vue en coupe des éléments du fermoir dans une position intermédiaire entre les positions d'ouverture et de fermeture;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

The present invention relates to bras and the aim of the invention is to provide a new method of constructing a brassiere.
The invention is particularly aimed at a bra of the type opening on the front and provided with cups which in fact do not come into contact with one another on the sternum, said tunnels being normally connected by a clasp which can Occasionally apply to the skin covering the breastbone. It is therefore appropriate that this clasp be such that the contact when it occurs, provides a pleasant sensation such as can give it a smooth and flat object.
The clasp which will be described may also form part of reinforcements provided in the cups, such as bent threads of metal or of plastic material.
A particular aim of the invention is to produce a bra clasp of the type described above, comprising two
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
conjugated elements designed to cooperate with each other, so as to form a clasp having on the skin side surfaces having a common plane, thanks to which there are no irregularities or protrusions liable to cause damage 'irritation.
In short, it is an object of the invention to achieve a clasp having none of the known roughness of separable closures, such as conventional staples and eyelets, which if used to connect the cups of the present support. -throat would certainly end up irritating the skin.
The present clasp, while being as effective as a connecting member and as easy to close and open as the conventional hook and eye fastener, takes the form, when closed, of a relatively thin button. and offering a perfectly smooth surface to the touch, both inside and out.
The invention also aims to provide a bra adapted to open on the front, without the cups coming into contact with one another on the sternum, and provided with a clasp as defined above. *
Another object of the invention is to provide, for a bra of the aforementioned type, two curved metal wires, or rods forming a whalebone, or reinforcements, such elements being adapted to be attached partially or totally to the periphery of the cups of the brassiere, and each of them being fixed to one of two conjugate members of a clasp which forms part of the invention.
The invention finally proposes to produce a bra adapted to open on the front, as described above, and comprising ribs or reinforcements combined with the two cups, the conjugate members of the present clasp being fixed to said. whale $ or frames,
The objects, characteristics and advantages of the invention will be better understood by referring to the description which follows and to the accompanying drawing, given solely by way of example.

Fig. 8 is a rear view, in elevation, of the clasp of FIG. 3, showing part of one of the frames; fig. 9 is a rear elevational view of the clasp element of FIG. 1, also showing part of the corresponding reinforcement; Fig 10 is a perspective view, on a very reduced scale, of a brassiere of the type described, showing the clasp and the underwiring of the cups, the latter being shown in broken lines.
The present invention relates to a bra opening on the front and comprising cups which have no point in common with the right of the sternum and a clasp joining the cups, this clasp being normally in contact with the skin; the bra may or may not include reinforcements for the bora-lets., for example curved metal son @ plastic. In the embodiment of the invention shown here, the brassiere
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
is provided with reinforcements adapted to extend partially over the periphery of the cups, in the vicinity of the sternum, as shown in fig. 10.
An important feature of the invention is that the clasp, which is subject to come into contact with the body? between the breasts, is constructed in such a way that it presents a smooth and flat surface on the skin.
In the embodiment shown, the frames of the cups are assumed to be of molded plastic material, and each of them comprises, integrally, one of the elements constituting the clasp itself. It goes without saying, however, that the frames of the cups could form complete loops from a plastic or metal thread., And that the mating elements of the clasp do not necessarily need to be integral with these frames. and can be attached to them in any suitable manner, or be attached to the fabric of the bra cups,
the tooth material are made, the combined elements of the clasp being otherwise indifferent-
Fig 1 represents a whale or frame 10 which can be assumed to be intended to stiffen part of the periphery of the right cup of the bra, adjacent to the breastbone ... while FIG. 2 shows a whale 11 symmetrical to the previous one and supposed to fulfill the same role vis-à-vis the left cap.
Although these two ribs are shown separated from the fabric of the bra, it will be understood that the edges of the fabric constituting the cups are wrapped around the ribs and form an envelope as is usual * Since ribs 10 and 11 do not are not seen in FIG. 10, on which the fabric of the cups of the bra is represented, the ribs are only represented by a broken line. The bra has the reference B.
One element of the clasp is protruding from each rib, and naturally these elements pass through openings in the fabric of the cups * The mating elements of the clasp protrude from the convex sides of the ribs and
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
face each other * A male element 12, here assumed to have come from matis * with the whale 10 protrudes from the latter; and the element
12 comprises a rather elongated head 13, having the shape of a block which is connected to the body of the whale 10 by a tab 14. A female element, integrally with the whale It protrudes from the latter to cooperate with 1 male element 12, and the female element is designated as a whole by 15.
In the illustrated embodiment, member 15 forms a bulge having a substantially oval shape, having parallel front and rear surfaces, as shown in FIG. 5, and it is connected to the body of the whale 11 by a neck 16. The element 15 is essentially an eyelet since it is provided with an opening 17 forming a window. Isolated male 12, as will be seen diaprés, it has substantially the same shape as the window 17, and it is designed to adapt thereto.
In the embodiment shown, in isolation 12, seen from the front, for example in FIGS. 1 and 3, has the appearance of a rectangle whose angles are slightly rounded. The angles of the window 17 are however truncated by shoulders 18, 19, 20, and 21, the front surfaces of which are at a distance from the front surface. Of the element 15 substantially equal to the thickness of the male insulation. 12 (fig. 2, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8).
As can be seen in fig. 8 and also in figs. 5 and 7, a lateral notch 22 extends from the window 17 to the periphery of the element 15, and, as seen in FIGS. 4, 6 and 7, the tab 14 has a reduced thickness compared to the head 13 of the element 12, the tab 14 being arranged to fit into the notch 22, as shown in FIG. 6, when the clasp elements are - in the closed position.
The head 13 of the element 12 can easily engage in the window 17, despite the shoulders 18, 19, 20 and 21, if the rib 10 is tilted relative to the plane of the rib 11, as shown in fig. 7. Once the head 13 is engaged in the window, the whale 10 can be tilted in the other direction so as to return to the
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
plane of the whale 11, the head 13 is then nested in the window at 17 in contact with the shoulders 18, 19, 20 and 2, the front surface of the head 13 being in the same plane as the front surface of the element 15 with the tab 14 engaged in 1-'notch. 22,
while the rear surface of the male element 12 is then in the same plane as the rear surface of the element 15.
