<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

The invention relates to a gearbox for a single-wheel track vehicle which can be set up as an original or by conversion, either as a pedal motor or as a light motorcycle with a footrest, at will.
According to the invention, the gearbox is provided with bearings which can accommodate at will either the pedal control system or a shaft supporting the footrests and / or constituting the kickstarter shaft.
According to another characteristic of the invention, the gearbox is arranged so that it can receive, at will, either a bottom bracket shaft joined by a kinematic connection to the secondary shaft, or a kickstarter system.
The gearbox is advantageously arranged such that certain members of the kickstarter system, for example the stop member for the rest position of the kickstarter, can be secured in the spans of the pedal control system, for example in the scope of an intermediate reference.
Finally, and in order to prevent the breakage of the gear case established by light metal injection molding, the rupture which may occur when the footrest mounted on this case meets an obstacle or hits the ground in the event of a fall, the latter footrest is preferably elastic.
In this regard, it is advantageous to provide a construction where the outer end of the footrest is joined to the element of the footrest, integral with the shaft of the footrest only by means of a socket. elastic material, especially rubber @ uc. An example of the gearbox according to the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings. In these drawings
Figure 1 is a horizontal section of a pedal gearbox.
Figure 2 is a similar section of the same gearbox, but with footrest and kickstarter system, at the time of launch.
Figure 3 is a partial plan view, in the direction of arrow III, the gear housing cover being removed.
Figure 4 is a partial section along the line IV-IV of Figure 20
In the gear case 1 and the cover 2 thereof are provided the bearing surfaces 3, 4, in which is mounted the shaft 5 of the crankset Figure 1. This shaft carries a pinion 6 which is coupled to this shaft, in the direction of propulsion, by a freewheel 7 with locking rollers, In another bearing 8, provided in the housing cover, is mounted the countershaft 9, on which are rotatably mounted two pinions 10 and 11. A secondary shaft 12 is also mounted in the housing 1 and the cover 2. To the latter shaft is rigidly fixed the pinion 13, in engagement with the pinion 11 of the return.
The idler pinion 10 1, on the other hand, is engaged with the pinion 6 provided on the crankshaft 5. Finally, the secondary shaft still carries the two pinions 14 and 15 of the gear change mechanism, the construction of which and operation is not otherwise relevant to the present invention; it also carries the transmission chain sprocket 16 on the outside.
As can be seen, the vehicles provided with such a gearbox can be propelled incidentally by pedaling, a maneuver which can also be used to start the engine.
When it comes to transforming the gearbox described above
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
above about a moped in a gearbox for a light motorcycle, the bottom bracket 5 is removed and replaced, in the same spans 3, 4: by a footrest shaft 17 (Fig. 2 ). This last shaft is also rotary and simultaneously constitutes the shaft of the kickstarter. To this end, this shaft carries a bush 18 rigidly joined to a toothed sector 19. On the bush 18 is slid a torsion spring 20 helically wound and one end of which is engaged on the left in a recess of the housing 1, while its the other end enters a borehole in sector 19 on the right.
In the bearing 8, from which the journal 9 of the return 10, 11 has been removed beforehand, the locking member 22 is fixed by means of an attachment bolt 21, a member which surrounds the kickstarter shaft 17 and the beak 22 'of which forms the stop for the projection 18' of the socket 18. This determines the rest position of the starting system 17,19 against the action of the torsion spring 20.
During launches, the sector 19 meshes with the toothed ring 23 rotatably mounted on the hub 15 'of the gearshift pinion 15. The ring 23 has on its inner periphery notches 23' in which a pawl can engage. spring drive 24, housed in a recess of the hub 15 'of the pinion 15. On the left side, outside the housing 1, the kickstarter pedal 25 is fixed to the kickstarter shaft 17, a brake pedal 26 being mounted on this shaft on the right side. Finally, the kickstarter shaft still carries the footrests each consisting of a sleeve 27 with flange 28, an outer end element 29 in the form of a mushroom and a hard rubber sleeve 30, joined at these two ends by vulcanization.
To start the engine, press pedal 25.
As a result, the entire kickstarter (and footrest) shaft 17 pivots against the tension of the spring 20. The sector 19 engages with the ring gear 23. The latter performs one rotation. and drives, via the locking device 23 ', 24 the pinion 15, which is kinematically connected to the motor and thus starts the latter. The launch being carried out, the torsion spring 20 returns the kickstarter system to its rest position determined by the meeting of the elements 18 ', 22'.
As a result, the sector 19 goes out of engagement with the ring gear 23. It goes without saying that, in this case, the pinion 15 must be disengaged from the secondary shaft 12 by any usual means.
In any case, it emerges from the foregoing that by adopting the arrangement of the gearbox described above, the machine fitted with the latter can be established either as a moped or as a light motorcycle, by installing, at will, either a bottom bracket 5 with its connecting members to the gear change mechanism, designated 6,7, 9 to 11, or a footrest shaft 17 provided with the kickstarter system 18 to 24. all without modifying the gear case. Thanks to the elastic construction of the footrests 27 to 30, eca.rte, clans this second case the risk of damage to the gear housing 1, 2 in the event that the footrests would strike an obstacle.
