<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

IMPROVEMENTS FOR TEDDERS AND WINDROWS.
The present invention relates to tedders and windrows of the type comprising an elongated frame mounted on wheels and carrying a shaft which drives a series of rotating tine plates, this frame being, when the machine is working, hitched to the rear of the machine. a tractor so as to be oriented transversely to the direction of travel.
Such machines are usually provided with two rotating plates. However, it is advantageous that the machine, when it is pulled by a tractor, offers a greater capacity, that is to say, comprises three or four plates for example. However, such a machine would have the defect of a large total width, which would hamper the transport of the machine or the passage of this one in the porches, etc ...
In another patent application filed today by the applicant, it has been suggested to overcome this drawback by providing the frame with articulated ends so that the latter can be folded back or make these ends sliding relative to a middle position.
The present invention aims to establish another easy means making it possible to adapt the machine with a view to its transport or the passage of doors.
@ According to the present invention, the frame of the machine is provided with members intended to receive one or more auxiliary or auxiliary support wheels, spaced apart in the direction transverse to the length of the frame, with respect to the support wheels on which this frame moves normally, the latter being provided at one end with coupling members to the tractor, so that, for the purposes of transporting passage through porches or traveling on roads, the machine can be coupled to the tractor at one end, the frame being parallel to the direction of travel and being towed by the tractor on its normal support wheels and its auxiliary or additional support wheels.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
It is possible, for example, to provide an additional wheel rotating on a shaft fixed to the frame by an arm oriented towards the rear, this wheel being designed to move in a direction parallel to the longitudinal direction of the frame, one end of the machine being provided with attachments to a tractor, so that the machine can be towed by the butt
The aforesaid wheel can be removably mounted on the machine or be articulated to the frame, so as to be put into and out of action at will.
When this wheel is removable, the members for fixing the shaft of the additional wheel to the frame may consist of two tabs, one of which has a slightly oblong orifice, while the other has a vertical slot open at one end and intended for receive the support arm of this shaft, this arm being held in the slot by the weight of the machine,
The support arm can be provided with two flanges which hold it in the oblong opening and in the slot, respectively with the aforesaid tabs.
The invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, or:
Fig. 1 is a plan view showing one embodiment of the invention; Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1; FIG. 3 is a sectional view in side elevation, showing a variant.
The construction shown in Figures 1 and 2 comprises a frame preferably consisting of a tube 10 of large diameter, provided with two brackets 11 intended to receive the drawbars to the tractor.
The frame is normally placed behind the tractor, transversely to its course.
At two points of the frame, spaced apart from one another, there are vertical-axis bearings 12 in which shafts 13 are mounted, the lower ends of which carry swivel wheels or casters 14.
The shafts 13 may include screw adjustment means making it possible to modify the height of the frame above the ground.
Near each end of the frame, as well as at points close to its middle, are provided, brackets 15 oriented towards the rear and carrying bearings 16 intended to support a shaft 17 extending over the entire length of the frame. frame and carrying the rotary plates 18, three of which have been shown, these plates preferably being of a known construction, described in British Patent No. 527981 by the same inventors.
The turntables can be adjustable separately or together along the shaft 17, so as to adjust their spacing according to the spacing of the windrows. The shaft 17 is preferably driven by bevel gears from the tractor PTO shaft.
To allow the machine to be transported or passed through the porches, an additional wheel 19 is provided, the latter being mounted on a shaft 20 provided on an arm 21 directed towards the rear and fixed removably on the frame of the machine. machine, the upper front part of this' arm being called to fit into an orifice 22 provided in a tab 23 fixed to the tubular frame 10. Close to the tab 23, there is another tab, 24, in which is formed a slot 27 open at one end and which receives, towards its upper end, the arm 21 extending rearwardly, the latter carrying two flanges 25, 26, which determine its position in the orifice 22 and in the slot 27.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The orifice 22 is preferably oblong in the vertical direction, the distance between the tabs 23, 24 being slightly greater than the distance between the flanges 25, 26 of this arm, so as to allow a certain oscillation movement of this last.
The arm 21 preferably extends rearwardly behind the turntables 18 and runs obliquely downwards from the frame 10 to the shaft 20 of the wheel 19, the latter being of the swivel type or no.
Figure 3 shows a construction in which the frame 10 is provided with two legs or two pairs of legs disposed side by side.
These tabs are shown at 27, 28. They protrude upwards from the frame 10. The arm 21 is mounted on a horizontal pivot 29 carried by the tabs 27, this arm 21 being guided between the pair of tabs 28. The free end of this arm carries a caliper 30 supporting a shaft 31 on which is mounted the additional wheel 19. The latter is in this case pivotable, the caliper 30 being pivotally mounted in the end of the wheel. arm 21. Leg 28 or pair of legs 28 is provided with a removable peg 32 which holds arm 21 in its lowered position when wheel 19 is in use; this pin can keep the arm 21 in a raised position, as indicated in phantom, when the wheel is not in use.
To bring the arm 21 from one position to the other, the ankle 32 is withdrawn from the legs 28.
At one end of the tubular frame 10 is fixed a plate 35 carrying ears 36 traversed by a horizontal rod 37 on which is pivotally mounted a double drawbar 38 for attachment to the tractor for transporting the machine.
To allow the machine to be transported or passed under a narrow porch, the arm 21 (figures 1 and 2), fitted with the shaft carrying the additional wheel 19, is attached to the frame by simply passing the end forward. of this arm through the orifice 22 of one of the legs integral with the frame, while this end is introduced into the slot 27 of the other leg 24.
When, in the case of the construction of Figure 3, it is a question of passing the machine under a narrow porch or transporting it on a road, the arm 21 is lowered, so that the wheel 19 rests on the ground and the drawbars 38 are attached to the tractor.
The drawbars 38 integral with the frame are then hooked to the end of the tractor, after which the machine is towed, parallel to the length of the frame, on the swivel wheels 14, which automatically perform a conversion. of 90 as well as on the auxiliary wheel 19.
Instead of a single extra wheel, two or more can be provided to serve the above purpose.
