DISPOSITIF DE BLOCAGE ET DE RELACHEMENT'POUR. GRAPPINS.DESTINES A LEVER
EMI1.1
rET TRANSPORTER-DES CHARGES. NOTAMMENT-DRR T,TNno'l'S ,nA(-:TRR-
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

LOCKING AND RELEASING DEVICE FOR. GRAPPLES. DESTINES TO LIFT
EMI1.1
rET TRANSPORTING LOADS. PARTICULARLY-DRR T, TNno'l'S, nA (-: TRR-
The object of the present invention is a device for grapple grippers of all kinds, which maintains the arms of the grapple in the open position until they have grasped the load to be lifted. When it lands on the load, the blocking device is released and after lifting the load, an automatic locking occurs again momentarily.
The need to provide locking devices to keep the jaws or the gripper of the grapple open arises in the case of any grapple. Generally, for this purpose, manually controlled levers or bar sets are used. The use of the automatic release system, in particular as a result of the calorific effect which occurs, causes great difficulties and therefore requires a great deal of labor and time.
Knowing these drawbacks, devices have already been proposed for automating the blocking and releasing operation. In this case, for example, shafts rotating on their longitudinal axis, guided in grooved tracks, are provided which, when being placed in position, determine the locking or unlocking.
The reciprocating operation of such devices means that the operation occurs even when it is not wanted, when the grapple is withdrawn, - hence possibly lifting in several stages becomes necessary. Apart from the high costs of manufacturing and materials, these devices often give rise to faults due to their complexity.
In addition, these automatic release devices, as well as those which are controlled by hand, have the disadvantage that in most cases the grapple must be applied from the upper side of the gripper in order for the re- the locking device can be released. If we transport a rectangular ingot, in free suspension, one of the sides of the ingot exerts a thrust against the members of the grapple and due to the great force
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
closing, a movement is impossible.
The invention avoids the drawbacks described and it makes it possible to obtain flawless and safe operation by the use of very simple means.
In particular, it is possible, with the device according to the invention, to release the free-swinging grapple, at a suitable height, so that the suspension stops at this height, the grapple descends and leaves a certain passage .-- The ingot can then be transported in a suitable manner.
According to the invention, the device consists of a blocking lever known per se, which can pivot on the axis or.pivot bringing together the traction rod and the clamp branch and which, by its end, finds its point support, in the locked position, in a notch provided on the opposite branch of the clamp. To this locking lever is articulated, pivoting on a horizontal axis, a curved rod, which, in the rest position, descerd between the jaws of the grapple. When positioning on the steel ingot, this connecting rod automatically releases the locking system, rolls during lifting and thus ensures locking when returning to position.
Thus a fixed opening position is always given when the grapple clamp is free, as is an unlocking position, when the grapple is placed on a load to be lifted.
The drawing shows, in an embodiment given by way of example, a grapple of ordinary construction, with such a locking and releasing device, the grapple itself being of no interest to the invention since the apparatus can be used. 'adapt in the same way, to any other construction, even after installation.
Figure 1 shows a grapple in the blocked open position.
FIG. 2 illustrates the principle of the grapple in the relaxed grip position.
The grapple shown in the drawing has the characteristics common to all grapples of this type and consists essentially of two connecting rods 2 and 3, articulated to the traction eyelet 1, at the ends of which are articulated, on the pins or pivots 4 and 5 , the respective gripper branches 6 and 7. The mode of operation of the gripper is of no interest to the invention. Apart from the embodiment shown, in which the arms of the grapple themselves 8 and 9 exert, due to their own articulation to the branches of the gripper, a doubly reinforced leverage effect, it goes without saying that one can imagine realizations in which the closing movement occurs like that of a clamp on an ordinary axis.
The locking and releasing device itself comprises a locking lever 10, which can pivot around the connecting pivot of the traction rod and the clamp branch which is located in axis 4. To the pair of branches clamp 7 which pivots on the connecting pin corresponding to the axis 5, a notch 11 is provided, which is measured and disposed such that the end of the lever 10, when it comes to 'apply to this notch, move aside the lateral angles of the articulated quadrilateral composed of the traction rods and the gripper brackets, and thus keep the gripper of the grapple in the open position.
At the end of the lever 10 intended to enter the notch is articulated, on a horizontal pivot 12, located outside: the middle line of the grapple, a release rod 13, 'which, in the locked position, s' advance down between the jaws of the grapple. This connecting rod is preferably provided with oscillations, the centers of curvature of the curves being usefully on the side where the axis of rotation of the locking lever is located.
-The mode of operation will be briefly explained in the following, From the blocking position shown in Figure 1, the grapple is lowered on the load to be lifted, for example, as shown in Figure 2, on an ingot of 'steel 15, cast in a shell 14. When the grapple is lowered, the connecting rod 13 touches, by its point, lower 16, the upper surface.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
re of the ingot and is, therefore raised, during the subsequent lowering, As, first of all, by the spacing of the traction rods, the locking force is canceled after the release lever comes into contact and ingot, this loosening takes place easily and safely, without wear and tear on the material. After release, the grapple arms can close in the usual way and grab the ingot.
In this case, the fictitious articulated quadrilateral 2e3e6, 7 is deformed by a height separation and as a result, the pivots 4 and 5 come closer. But because of this, the lever 10 is, at the same time, pushed inwards and the connecting rod 13 is moved laterally, which is usefully favored by the support of its sliding track 17 on the notch 11 or to any other appropriate party. The connecting rod slides, during this operation, by its curvilinear path 17, on the upper surface of the ingoto. If the steel ingot is then withdrawn, the articulated quadrilateral 2, 3, 6,7 moves aside laterally and, by its own weight, the locking lever 10 falls back into the notch 11, as soon as the clearance necessary for this is given.
This means that the grapple can now be raised immediately without manual control. During this lifting, the release rod 13 falls, also under the effect of its own weight, in the position shown in FIG. 1, and the operation can be repeated for the next ingot. The snap-in in the fastening position takes place practically without friction, so that the device is also not subject to wear.
