TAP FOR GAS BURNER.
The invention relates to a valve for a gas burner, specially designed to be easily adaptable to gases of different richness, for example town gas and compressed gas or in cylinders, although it can also be used for fuel oil. or the like, and the assembly and disassembly of which are easy, while ensuring good sealing.
According to the invention, the valve is of the needle type and the valve body is designed to carry a gas supply pipe, an movable nozzle and a mixing chamber intended to be fitted on the supply pipe. the burner supply, and possibly a pilot valve.
Other features and advantages of the invention will emerge from the description of an exemplary embodiment, which will be given below with reference to the appended drawing, in which: FIG. 1 is a side elevational view of the valve according to the invention, and FIG. 2 is a sectional view thereof.
The valve comprises a body 1, preferably with hexagon, having an internal thread in which engages the threaded part 2 of the needle 3 cooperating with the seat 4 formed in the body 1. The smooth rod 5 of the needle, provided with a control handle 6, is surrounded by a packing 7 located in a smooth cylindrical part 8 of the body 1, between a washer 9, bearing on an internal shoulder of said body, and a pressure ring 10 subjected to the action of a tightening nut 11 mounted on an external thread of the body 1. The packing 7 pressed against two smooth cylindrical surfaces ensures a perfect seal, even for compressed gas.
A gas supply pipe 12 is screwed into a side face of the body 1 and ¯ can be connected by a flexible pipe to the gas supply pipe. In the opposite face of said body is screwed a pilot valve 13, the needle 14 of which, controlled by the handle 15, can block the gas supply duct 16. The seal is guaranteed by a filling similar to that provided around the rod 5 and which is tightened

by means of a nut 17 screwed onto the body 13. A pilot tube 18 is connected to the pipe 19 fixed to the body 13, by means of a nut 20 with an internal flange which cooperates with the shoulder of a small nozzle 21 to which the tube 18 is attached.
The seat of the needle 3 is formed by the end of a hollow projection with an external thread, onto which a nozzle 22 is screwed, with the interposition of a washer 23 forming a seal and on which the flange 24 of the diffuser rests. . A cylindrical bowl-shaped mixing chamber 25 is screwed onto the diffuser and has air inlet windows 26 and an internal thread allowing the assembly of the valve to be mounted on a supply pipe of a. burner. The air is adjusted by means of a threaded ring 27 screwed onto the chamber 25 and which can be immobilized in the desired position by means of a setting nut 28.
In the position shown, the main valve and pilot are closed. When the pilot needle 14 is opened, the gas flows through the free space around the needle 3, the diameter of which is smaller than the internal diameter of the body 1. The gas passes through the borehole of the body 13 and the tubing 19 towards the pilot tube 18. To ignite the burner, it suffices to open the main needle 3.
The embodiment shown in the drawing is specially designed for rich gas, such as butane. The orifices of the nozzles 21 and 22 are relatively small. The pilot tube 18 has a series of holes 29, or a single hole at its end; and an air inlet opening 30. To adapt the tap to town gas, it suffices to operate as follows. The nozzle 22 is disassembled and it is replaced by another with a larger outlet orifice. This operation is facilitated by the presence of the facets on the flange.
The tubing 12 is replaced by a tubing with a larger bore, but provided with an identical threaded end. This operation is facilitated by the presence of the faceted bulge 31. ' In the pilot light, the diffuser 21 can be replaced by a diffuser or a nozzle with a larger passage.
It goes without saying that, if the pilot burner is deemed unnecessary, it can be omitted and the corresponding opening provided in the body 1 of the valve can be closed with a plug.
It will be understood that the invention is not limited to the exemplary embodiment described and illustrated, but that various constructive modifications can be made thereto without departing from the scope of the invention.
