<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

"PERFECTED LAYING APPARATUS FOR MINE WOODING STORAGE".
The present invention relates to an improved laying apparatus for timbering of mine props.
It relates more particularly to devices for clamping metal props called extenders or laying devices. These expanders take the male stanchion or punch from the female stanchion or shank and forcefully apply it against the roof of the vein.
Installation devices are generally made up of a transverse threaded rod with wing nut and clamp
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
which strongly encloses the male prop. The assembly thus formed, and secured to the male prop, is lifted, after releasing the lock ensuring the retention of the male prop in the female prop, by a vertical threaded rod which, by means of a stop nut, is supported on the upper face of this lock and which is actuated by a cross bar or by a ratchet lever. This installation device placed on one of the lateral faces of the male prop is offset with respect to the vertical threaded rod, which results in poor transmission of forces.
In addition, the tightening of the body of the male prop between the clamp and the wing nut requires vigorous tightening of the device, hence its rapid deterioration, and, if the installation is not done very correctly, causes the bending of the transverse threaded rod.
The object of the device of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks.
It is constituted by an articulated clamp comprising a journal nut fixed on the vertical threaded rod, and facing the male prop, a counterplate with journals facing the opposite face of the male prop and two movable links connecting these two parts on either side of the male prop and resting on the journals, so that this collar encloses the male prop when it is put under tension by the action of the threaded rod vertical.
The backing plate further comprises means making it possible to vary the distance between its bearing face and the bearing face of the journal nut in order to allow the use of the same device for metal props of. all lengths, that is to say whose section of the male prop differs.
The description which will follow with reference to the accompanying drawings, given by way of nonlimiting example, will do well.

understand how the invention can be implemented.
Figure 1 shows a side view of a laying device according to the invention, mounted on a male prop.
Figure 2 is a plan view of Figure 1 with the male prop removed.
The setting apparatus according to the invention comprises a collar 1 comprising a trunnion counterplate 2 provided with a threaded bore 3, a smooth trunnion 4 and a headed trunnion 5, a trunnion backing plate 6 provided with two smooth journals 7 and 8, a single connecting rod 9 mounted on the journals 4 and 8 and a hooking eye 10 provided with a slot 11 and connecting the smooth journal 7 and the head journal 5.
The trunnion counterplate 6 has a parallelipiped shape and the axis of articulation X-X of its trunnions 7 and 8 is eccentric so that its distances to the four faces of the parallelepiped are different. The journal nut 2 is provided with a removable jaw 12 fixed by bolts 13. The journal counterplate 6 carries on its four faces jaws 12a held by bolts 13a.
The male prop 14 is surrounded by the collar 1. The lock 15, ensuring the holding of the male prop 14 with respect to the female prop 16, is provided with a boss 17 on which a clamp rests. 18 provided with a bore 19 into which the journal 20 of a rack screw 21 enters; the screw 21 penetrates into the threaded bore 3 of the journal nut 2. It is provided at its lower part with toothing 22 integral with it.
Two flanges 23 and 23a located above and below the toothing 22 are held tight by a bolt 24 provided with its nut 25. Between the flanges 23 and 23a, on the bolt 24, is articulated a double pawl 26 comprising a rear projection 27 adjacent to the rear angles 28 and 28a arranged on

its side faces. A handle 29 provided with a blind hole 30 in which a spring 31 and a rack finger 32 is housed between the flanges 23 and 23a, and ensures the maintenance of the pawl by pressing the finger 32, or on the projection 27 and the angle 28, ie on the projection 27 and the angle 28a, depending on the direction of action of this pawl.
The operation of the device is as follows:
The jaw 13 of the journal nut 2 and one of the jaws 13a of the journal counterplate 3 being brought into contact with the male prop 14, the rise of the screw 21 under the action of the ratchet and rack device 22 and 26 has the effect of strongly clamping this male prop between these jaws and, after unlocking the lock 5, to mount this male prop vertically to apply it with force against the roof of the veiner
It will be noted that the apparatus can be used for male props of different sections by making the trunnion counterplate 6 pivot with respect to the axis XX which, due to the eccentricity of this axis, has the object of '' bring one of the jaws 13a to the desired distance from the jaw 12.
It is obvious that, without departing from the scope of the invention, the advancement of the screw 21 in the journal nut 2 can be obtained by any device other than a rack device, by a transverse bar, for example.
