<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
basculement.
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>
<Desc/Clms Page number 12>
<Desc/Clms Page number 13>
(fig.
<Desc/Clms Page number 14>
<Desc/Clms Page number 15>
<Desc/Clms Page number 16>

<Desc/Clms Page number 18>
tourillons 145 (figs.4, 4a).
<Desc/Clms Page number 19>
<Desc/Clms Page number 20>

Patent application in Belgium filed by: Alhons W yss in Bottmingen near Basel (Switzerland), for the invention entitled: Single-mold machine for the manufacture of hollow glass objects, forming the subject of a patent application filed in Switzerland on January 17, 1945.
**************
For the manufacture of hollow glass objects, single-mold machines are known in which the blank mold has a rectilinear reciprocating movement on a carriage, between a picking station in the melting furnace and a transfer station at which a finishing mold is provided. In these machines, the carriage moves on the guide bars, which receive a tilting movement at the end of the forward movement of the carriage.
The blank mold is thus immersed in the mass of molten glass inside the furnace, with the aim of sucking up a parison which, at the end of the retraction of the carriage, is jerked into the finishing mold to be blown therein.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
A machine is also known serving the same purpose, but in which the blank mold is mounted on a horizontal support bar with reciprocating movement. With this machine, the blank mold is immersed in the mass of glass due to the fact that at the end of the corresponding oscillation of the support bar, this mold is moved downwards by special control means, in a sliding guide.
In all heretofore known machines of the type mentioned, the change of molds of different sizes causes inconvenient adjustment work, resulting in a waste of time and having a detrimental effect on the efficiency of the machine. In addition, for the control of the various components, these machines have a large number of cam discs, which are subject to heavy wear, which considerably increases maintenance costs.
The invention relates to a machine with a single mold which is used for the production of hollow glass objects and which eliminates the drawbacks of machines, known hitherto, of this type. It comprises a support bar with a reciprocating movement with a blanking mold, which can receive, at the end of its forward oscillation, a tilting movement, to determine the additional plunge of the blank mold. in the mass of fused glass.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
For this purpose, said support bar bears, with the blank mold, on a quadrilateral articulated in space and in this way constitutes its upper and horizontal connecting member. The support bar then oscillates, with the blank mold, back and forth, in a known manner, between the picking station in the oven and the transfer station, to the finishing mold, of the sucked parison. The supporting link joints of the support bar are then made, with the quadrilateral articulated in space, so that this vertically adjusted at will to be adapted to the different heights of the blank mold. , without blanking mold heights, without thereby ending a modification of the longitudinal stroke of the blanking mold.
In other words, the curved path described in space by the blank mold then remains invariable.
A preferred embodiment of the machine resides in the fact that the articulated support of the support bar on the articulated quadrilateral in space only comprises, at the front, only support, while the rear support , consisting of two supports, is made so that in its extreme front position, the support bar can, in order to immerse the blank mold in the mass of glass, undergo an additional tilting around the axis of the connection hinged front.
An embodiment of the invention is shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawings,

General assembly of the horizontal support bar.
In figs. 1, 2 and 4, 3 designates a nachine frame provided with wheels 4 and on which rests, by means of a system of oscillating levers forming a kind of parallelogram guide, a horizontal support bar, comprising two profiled rails 11 (fig. 7 and 9) and capable of oscillating back and forth. This swinging lever system has two front and shorter swinging levers 7, which rest, by means of bearings 5, on the machine frame 3, and two longer rear swinging levers 8, which rest, by means of bearings 6, on the frame 3. At their upper ends, the front oscillating levers 7 are connected together by a cross member 18, which is provided, at its central part, with a spur 19 directed upwards and carrying, at its upper end, a journal 9 belonging to the front support of the bar 11.
The two longer oscillating levers 8, for their part, at their
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
upper ends, two journals 10 belonging to the rear support of the bar 11.
Front support of the support bar.
Figs. 5 and 9 show, in particular, the front support of the support bar 11. On the journal 9, rests, by means of ball bearings 27, 28, an articulated head 25, on which vertical slides 30 are fixed, 31, in which the bar 11 is guided by means of guides 29. In the articulated head 25 is fixed an adjusting pin 26 directed upwards and on the upper end of which is mounted a nut, which carries a helical wheel 33 rigidly connected to this nut. This helical wheel 33 meshes with worm 34, which is housed in a connecting member 32 fixed to the two rails 11 of the support bar, By the rotation of the helical wheel 33, the spacing of the bar 11 can be modified. relative to the journal 9, that is to say the height position, at this location, of the bar 11.
Rear support of the support bar.
As best shown in Figs. 7 and 8, this support comprises a transverse bay 39, which is movable in height on the two rear journals 10. For this purpose, at each end of the bay 39, are fixed two guide rods 53 directed downwards and located movably engaged with the articulated heads 52 mounted, so
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
to be able to turn, on the aforementioned journals. These articulated heads carry bolts 54 directed upwards and on which are mounted compression springs which push the bay 39 downwards. As shown in FIG. 8, the span 39 carries two guide rods 36, 37, mounted in the central longitudinal plane and on which can move a guide 35 connecting the two profile rails 11 at the rear end of the support bar.
In this guide 35, is inserted a threaded sleeve, in which is screwed an adjusting spindle 40 which carries at its upper end, a helical wheel 41, This wheel 41 meshes with a worm not shown and which is mounted on a control shaft 43 (figs. 5 and 7) extending longitudinally and on which also rests the worm 34 serving for the rotation of the front adjustment spindle 26. The rotation of the shaft 43 determines, simultaneously - Nément forward and backward, the ascent or descent of the bar 11. At the lower ends of the two guide rods 36, 37, is fixed a casing 38, in which bear various members which will be discussed later.
Reciprocating oscillating movement control of the support bar.
The control of the oscillating lever system is determined by means of a double crank 15 (figs. 2 and 4), which is driven clockwise by an electric motor 167, mounted on the machine frame 3 ,
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
by means of a mechanism shown schematically, and which is mechanically connected, by means of connecting rods 16, with the two front oscillating levers 7. The above-mentioned control mechanism comprises two toothed gears 20, 20 b, mounted on a common transverse shaft 6, which simultaneously serves as a support for the rear pair of oscillating levers 6, The toothed pinion 20 meshes with a toothed pinion 21 carrying the crank 15 a and resting on a transverse shaft 23 capable of rotating in two longitudinal beams 22 (fig. 4).
The drive motor 167 comprises an extended shaft 168, on the end of which rests a worm 166 meshing with a helical wheel 165. The shaft 168 carries a claw coupling, not shown and allowing to rotate alternatively, via 170 meshing with them, the free toothed gears 20 and 20 b.
To the toothed pinion 20b, freely mounted on the shaft 6, is connected a cam disc 75, from which the finishing mold designated by 2 in FIG. 2 and consisting of two movable halves, is opened and closed, in a known manner, by means of a rod omitted in the drawing and hooking onto rods 2 a, independently of the oscillating movement of the support bar .
In this finishing mold, the parisons, which are there trance made with a blank mold 1 mounted at the front end
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
of the support bar and co-operating with a suction head 12, are blown, in a known manner, to form bottles or any other hollow glass objects. The aeration head 12 is clamped between the front ends of the rails 11 each having a longitudinal channel and is pneumatically actuated by means of vacuum and compressed air. One of the rails serves as a conduit for the vacuum, and the other conduit rail for the compressed air. The longitudinal channels of the rails 11 are connected to flexible tubes 96.
Additional tilting of the support bar for the plunge, in the mass of glass, of the blank mold.
During the forward oscillation of the support bar, the orifice of the blank mold 1 described, from its extreme position shown in FIG. 1, in the melting furnace, an arc, the constant length of which corresponds to the angle of deflection of the system with oscillating levers, angle determined by the stroke of the crank. So that, when the glass is opened in the oven, the orifice of the blank mold 1 plunges, whatever the variable level of the glass, into the mass of glass, the mold undergoes, at the end of its oscillation towards the front, a downward tilt, which is additional if necessary. For this purpose, the support bar is lifted at its rear end and thereby oscillates around the front journal 9. FIG. 3 shows this position of
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
tilting.
The tilting of the support bar is determined by the following means:
As shown in fig. 7, the span 39 comprises two vertical pins 46, the lower end of which forms a fork. In this fork, guided in guides 47, are mounted rollers 44. On the pins 46 are nuts and helical wheels 48 combined and mounted, so as to be able to turn, in the span 39.
To these helical wheels, corresponds a worm shaft 49 capable of rotating on the span 39 and carrying at each of its ends, a flywheel 50. The rotation of this shaft 49 allows the rollers 44 to be raised or lowered, depending on the pattern. direction of rotation of the shaft 49. At the end of the oscillation of the support bar, these rollers 44 roll, if they are sufficiently lowered, on rails 51 (fig. 2 and 3), this which causes the support bar to tilt around the journal 9, against the action of the compression springs 55. During operation, the rollers 44 are lowered or raised so that the blank mold 1 does not always sink into the mass glass than the desired amount.
Assembly of the cousteau to cut the glass at the opening of the blank mold.
The assembly of this knife 57 and the members designated for its control is shown in FIGS. 2,3, 5,8 and 9.
<Desc / Clms Page number 11>
The knife 57 itself is fixed to the front end of a longitudinal knife holder rail 72 (figs.2,3), which is supported on a front pair of rollers 58 and on a rear pair of rollers 56. The front pair of rollers 58 -gate on a support 60 (figs. 5 and 9) which is suspended, by means of an adjusting screw 61, for additional adjustment, from an intermediate member 59 connecting together at their end lower, the two slides 30 and 31.
The rear rollers 56 are carried, for their part, by a support 62 (FIG. 2), which is fixed to the housing 38. The knife 57 is controlled by means of a rack mechanism mounted in the housing. housing 38 and comprising a rack 63 fixed to the housing 38 (figs. 2 and 8) and a longitudinally movable rack 66, which is guided on rollers 64 which can rotate in the housing 38. With these two racks, a toothed pinion 67 engages, which rests at the end of the piston rod 68 of a compressed air cylinder 69 also mounted in the housing 38. The movable rack 66 has a drive fork 71, which meshes with a side projecting pin 70 - also on the knife holder 72.
After the aspiration, by means of the blank mold 1, of the mass of glass, the compressed air cylinder 69 is put into action to drive the toothed pinion 67 forward, then, at the desired time, towards the back. Rack 66, thus set in motion
<Desc / Clms Page number 12>
and making the double stroke of the toothed pinion 67, thus pushes the knife holder 72 forward, whereby the orifice of the blank mold 1 is scraped, in a known manner, by the knife 57, which cuts the bead. of glass that adheres to it.
Opening and closing of the blank mold.
The blank mold 1 is formed, here also, as usual, by two halves which are fixed to two mold holders 90 (figs. 5,6 and 6 a) hinged together by means of a pin 91. Then of the transfer, to the finishing mold 2, of the parison sucked by the blank mold, the latter is opened, in a known manner, by separating the two halves 90, then is subsequently closed again.
The control mechanism used for this purpose and shown in figs. 2, 3, 4,6 and 6a, is put into action by the cam disc 75. It comprises two pairs of parallel connecting rods 74 and 78, connected together by means of an articulation disc 80 and whose ends opposites are connected, also by articulation, to control members 77 or 81. The member 77 consists of a T-shaped lever, which can oscillate, in the middle of its transverse branch, on a fixed journal 79 and carries , at the end of the branch perpendicular to the previous one, a roller 76 engaged with a groove, not shown here, in the disc 75.
The control unit 81
<Desc / Clms Page number 13>
(Fig. 5) consists, for its part, of a balance which is connected, by means of a connecting rod 83 and a transverse axis which is provided, to two translation rods 84 sliding, at this location, in a guide 95. The connecting rods 84, which are extended towards the front, are connected at their front end by means of a pin 85, by articulation to a carriage 87 mounted on a guide rail 86. This carriage carries a pivot 88, on which a lifter 89 is articulated. As shown in FIGS. 6 and 6a, at the ends of this pedestal 89, are articulated, by means of articulated pins 94, elastic control rods 92 which, at their other ends, are articulated, by means of articulated pins 93, on the 90 halves carrying the mold 1.
During an anti-clockwise oscillation of the balance 81 caused by the cam disc 75 via the pairs of parallel connecting rods 78, the connecting rods 84 are moved rearward. and the halves of the blank mold are separated from each other to open this mold in the position shown in FIG. 6a. The oscillation, in the opposite direction, of the balance 81, determines the closing of the blank mold.
Raising and lowering of the mandrel mounted in the ring mold.
This mandrel, designated by 97 in FIG. 5 and lifted, at the desired time, after suction, is fixed to a cross member 99,
<Desc / Clms Page number 14>
under which are hooked the wedge-shaped ends of a pair of wedges 100, which is connected to a pair of translation rods 102, In fig. 5, only a shim 100 and only a connecting rod 102 are shown for these components. The longitudinal displacement of the pair of wedges 100 determining the rise and fall of the mandrel 97 is caused by a ratchet device 160-163, provided with a tension spring and a pawl, which comes into action in synchronism. with the oscillation of the bar 11 and which is opened automatically when the bar oscillates backwards and is closed when the oscillation forward.
Assembly, 'of the ring mold.
The blank mold 1 corresponds to a ring mold which is fixed to a support frame 14 (figs. 2,4, 4a, 5 and 6b). Does this frame have legs? side, by means of which it remains suspended, after the opening of the mold 1, from the tabs 117 of a pair of vertical sliding bars 118. At the end of the rear oscillation of the bar 11 carrying the mold 1, the frame 14, resting, with the ring mold holder 13, on the blank mold 1, each time comes into contact with the tabs 117 of the bars 118. These are guided in lateral guides 120 provided with rollers 119 (fig. 2).
These guides are attached to rods 125, which in combination with
<Desc / Clms Page number 15>
crossmembers 122, 121 and 123, 124 and the upper ends of uprights 127 and 128 attached to the frame of the machine, a frame frame. The bars 118 carry, at the top, a common connecting member 129 (fig. 4), into which is screwed an adjusting spindle 133, the lower end of which is fixed, so as to be able to turn, to a guide head. 132 mounted between the bars 118. This guide head 132 is combined, for its height displacement, with a rack mechanism, which comprises a pair of racks 131 fixed to this head (fig. 2) and a pair of racks 134 to the lateral guides 120 and with which the pair of toothed pinions 130 engages (fig.4a).
During any height adjustment of the bar 11 carrying the mold 1, as indicated above, it is of course necessary that the frame 14 carrying the ring mold is moved in height by the same amount, which can be obtained by means of the adjustment spindle 133. As, when stopping the pair of toothed gears 130, the guide head 132 is held stationary by this pair, the connecting member 129 gives way in particular during the rotation of the spindle. adjustment 133 and moves with the sliding bars 118 and the support frame 14 suspended from the tabs 117 of these bars, in the direction corresponding to the center of rotation of the spindle 133. In this way, the support frame 14 of the mold. ring can thus be
<Desc / Clms Page number 16>
the height of the blank mold 1.
The rise and fall of the frame - support 14 of the ring mold, in order to transfer a parison to the finishing mold 2, are determined by the cam disc 75.
For the descent of this support frame, angled levers 75 ', a roller 75a and a cam groove 75b determine the upward movement of the linkage 136 shown interrupted in FIG. 2 and which is hingedly connected, by means of an oscillating lever 138, to the elastic connecting rods 135 of the toothed gears 130, which are in turn moved downward. These toothed pinions then roll on the fixed racks 134 and thus determine the downward displacement of the movable racks 131, that is to say fixed to the guide head 132, and which perform the double stroke of the toothed pinions. es.
With the guide head 132, is lowered, through the intermediary of the pin 133, the link 129 and the bars 118, also the support frame 14, which, as indicated above, during the opening of the blank mold 1, remains suspended in the cleats 117 of the bars 118, In order to transfer, into the finishing mold 2, the parison, the ring mold 13, lowered with the support frames 14, is immediately opened after its arrival above the finishing mold 2 (fig. 6b), after which the pair of toothed gears 130 rises again and the sliding bars 118 re-
<Desc / Clms Page number 17>
rotate, with the ring mold 13, to the initial position near the bar 11 carrying the blank mold or near the suction head 12.
during Opening and closing of the ring mold \. 'of the transfer, in the finishing mold, of the parison.
In order to simplify the machine, this operating movement is combined with the descent movement, described above, of the ring mold. In figs. 4 and 4a, we see the pair of vertical shafts 139 arranged in the connecting span 129, on the inner side of the two bars 118.
This pair of shafts is guided, at the bottom, in bearings 140 and, at the top, rests in the connecting span 129, on stops 170. At the lower end of the shafts 139, is mounted, each time, a toothed pinion 141, which meshes with the ends of the rack 142 projecting on either side of the halves carrying the ring mold (figs. 6,6a and 6b).
Each of these rack ends 142 meshes, at the end of the retrograde oscillation of the bar 11 carrying the mold 1, with the toothed pinions 141 located on each side.
Inside the guide head 132, are arranged, on the vertical shafts 139 provided with longitudinal keys, toothed pinions 144 'with inclined teeth, which mesh with pinions 144 with inclined teeth, on the pair of
<Desc / Clms Page number 18>
journals 145 (figs. 4, 4a). The levers 146, mounted symmetrically on the journals 145, are connected, by connecting rods 147, to a sliding rod 148 of the vertical guide rod 149. This rod 149 slides in a bore 150 of the guide head 132 and is held in place. , at the top, by a compression spring 151 (figs. 2, 4b). On the sliding head 148, the lever 152 is articulated, shown in side view and which constitutes, in combination with the roller lever 154 articulated on the axis 153, an elbow lever articulation.
The axis is mounted in the guide head 132.
The stops 157 and 158, adjustable on a rod 156, are intended to release, each time, at the end of the ascent or descent of the support frame 14 of the ring mold and by means of the device described, the opening or closing the halves 13 carrying the ring mold. For this purpose, the roller 159 remains, as shown, in the rest position, in engagement with the stop 157; the elbow lever joint 154, 153, 152 is extended (fig. 4b), therefore in the closed position in neutral, and the compression of the spring 151 is transmitted, by the pairs of toothed gears mentioned above, aus toothed pinions 141 resting on the vertical shafts 139, and which hold the support 13 of the ring mold closed, and this by means of the ends of the rack
<Desc / Clms Page number 19>
aforementioned 142.
At the end of the downward movement of the support 13 of the ring mold on the finishing mold 2, the roller 159 comes into contact with the lower stop 158, which reveals the two elbow joint levers 154, 153 and 152, caused by the relaxation of the compression spring 151 (position in phantom in fig. 4b), and the members described determine, conversely, the opening of the support 13 of the ring mold (fig. 6b), whereby the suspended parison so far the ring mold 13 is released to pass into the finishing mold 2 closing at this time.
The opening and closing of the finishing mold 2, as well as the blowing of the bottles in the finishing mold, with the subsequent ejection of these bottles, are carried out by known means, so they are not shown.
With regard to similar machines of the known type, the machine which has just been described has advantages which, in principle, can be summarized as follows:
1 - the so far extensive adjustment work when changing molds is eliminated, because the horizontal, oscillating back and forth support bar of the blanking mold can be adjusted by turning a spindle single using a handwheel, immediately at any desired height of the blank mold relative to the level of the finishing mold.
<Desc / Clms Page number 20>
20- In order to adapt to the different dimensions of the blank mold, the height adjustment of the ring mold holder is also determined only by means of a single spindle, with a handwheel. To this end, it suffices to simply bring the ring mold holder into contact with the support bar of the blank mold previously set, or with the suction head, by the rotation of this spindle, after which operation can be performed. continue.
This adjustment occurs without touching any control device.
The height adjustments, necessary when changing molds, of the suction members are, therefore, reduced to a minimum with the adjustment of the blank mold mentioned in I, so that, when changing the mold, the operation of the machine does not undergo any prolonged interruptions.
3 - The known sliding carriages, supporting the blank mold, are omitted, since the horizontal support bar, mentioned above, of the blanking mold, is supported in space on a system of oscillating levers and describes a oscillating back and forth movement between the picking station and the transfer station to the finishing mold.
4 - Unlike known machines of this type, the operating movements required in combination
<Desc / Clms Page number 21>
with the oscillation forwards and backwards from the blank mold to the picking station are carried out without the aid of rorating cam discs, which simplifies the construction of the machine and reduces maintenance costs .
5 - At the end of its arched stroke, the blank mold can receive, at the picking station, if necessary, an additional plunging movement, the depth of which can be adapted by means of a handwheel, tilting during operation, at the level of the glass at the time considered.
6 - The knife, used to cut the glass after it has been sucked, always remains at the same level and therefore does not undergo any variation during the change of the blank mold. Its rest position behind the blank mold allows replacement without loss of time and the influence of the heat radiation coming from the furnace is here irrelevant.
70- The two bars joined together and forming the blank mold support are hollow and serve as a conduit for the compressed air and to create a vacuum in the suction head. As the two bars are produced, at the front, as clamping jaws, this head is easily interchangeable.
8 - The opening of the halves of the ring mold occurs by means of a ratchet device, which opens
<Desc / Clms Page number 22>
automatically at the end of the vertical stroke, during the transfer, to the finishing mold, of the parison and which is closed again during the upward stroke, so that the trigger known so far by means of a command via cam disc becomes superfluous.
9 - Unlike known machines of this type, the control linkage for opening and closing the blank mold and the ring mold is not subject to any adjustment, on this new machine, during the change. of different molds.
