<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

"Device for the formation of pseudo-edges in tissues".
The invention relates to a new device, especially intended for the formation of special selvedges or pseudo-selvedges, in particular in the middle part of the fabrics when weaving in a single operation several fabrics of lesser width than the useful width of the loom. It is known that several widths of fabrics are commonly manufactured on the same loom by providing between the neighboring fabrics a strip devoid of warp threads.
Subsequently, the fabrics are separated by cutting the single piece along the axis of said parts devoid of warp threads.
It is nevertheless important to provide along the edges thus cut an edge or pseudo-edge capable of preventing fraying of the fabric, which in these places does not have the edge normally provided along the outer edges of the fabric.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Certain devices have already been recommended for producing such pseudo-selvedges, in particular by making use of a fixed cut out rod, so as to present two fixed needles, the end of which has an eyelet, this fixed rod and these needles working in cooperation with a movable rod provided with inclined slots terminated by an eyelet, so that the threads passing through said slots are able to be displaced transversely, so as to form a special intersection determining the pseudo-selvage. The latter, by this device, is generally in the form of the combination of a straight warp yarn with a warp yarn interlaced between said straight warp yarn and the successive picks.
The present invention relates to a new device making it possible to produce selvedges or pseudo-selvages in a systematic manner exhibiting both more resistance and the ability to be better adapted to the type of fabric by the fact that it is possible to produce the same. 'interweaving a warp thread around two straight warp threads and, at will, around each pick, each .. two picks, each four picks, etc.
The device according to the invention is characterized by the combination of three juxtaposed slats and all three movable by reciprocating rectilinear movement in a vertical plane and parallel to the plane of the combs. If we consider Figure 1, we notice that we can achieve such a pseudo-selvedge by keeping two warp yarns a, b rectilinear, and by interlacing a third chain yarn c, respectively between the first two @ and picks or weft thread. If we consider for example the movements after the execution of the weft dl, for example, we notice that the chain a must be kept high, the chain d must be kept lowered, while the chain c must be lowered by uncovering the first two transversely.
This transverse covering is obtained, according to the device of the invention, by moving the two warp yarns a, b by a
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
small transverse movement, the third warp thread c always being moved in the same vertical plane. Therefore, the warp threads b, c being lowered and the warp thread being raised, this position is maintained during the formation of the desired number of picks, in this case three. Immediately afterwards, the chain threads a, b are moved transversely, but in the other direction, the warp thread is raised and the warp thread is lowered.; In these new positions the same number of picks are formed and these successive movements are thus repeated in a contained manner.
As can be seen, it suffices to cause at the opportune moments the lowering, the raising and the immobilization of the chain threads intended to form the pseudo-selvage, two of these threads periodically receiving a small transverse movement, sometimes in one direction, sometimes in the other direction, the first warp thread being passed through the eyelet of a needle, which moves in a reciprocating rectilinear movement. As a result, this needle places its warp thread alternately to the left and to the right of the first two. The interlacing forming the pseudo-edge is thus produced.
By way of example, one embodiment of the device, object of the invention, is shown diagrammatically in the appended drawings, without any limiting nature. The device is designed to make two selvages at the same time, respectively for the adjacent edges of the two fabrics woven simultaneously.
This embodiment is shown schematically in the accompanying drawings, in which: Figures 2, 3, 4 and 5 show schematically in perspective view the three movable rods in characteristic positions, these three rods being voluntarily separated from each other to the best understanding of the operating mode.

equipped with the device; FIGS. 8, 9 and 10 show a perspective view of the pseudo-edges that can be executed using the device, object of the invention,
According to Figures 2, 4 and 5, the device mainly comprises three rods 1, 2, 3, arranged opposite one another and capable of being moved in a reciprocating vertical movement.
The first rod 1 has a window 4 cut out so that it has two needles 5, 6, the point of which is directed downwards has a hole 7, 8 respectively. Above the needles is a transverse opening 9. Each needle receives a warp thread a, which passes through the orifice, respectively 7, 8, passes again in front of the needle and passes through the transverse orifice 9. The second slat 2 has two grooves 10, 11, arranged towards one of the edges of the rod, then accusing a double bend and disposed towards the other longitudinal edge of the rod. In this second part, these grooves are doubled by two other straight grooves 12, 13. At the origin of the first bend of the grooves 10, 11, the rod 2 is still crossed by two oblong eyelets 14,15.
The third rod 3 has the same grooves and eyelets as the rod 2, but arranged inversely, that is to say that the grooves 10 ', 11', first of all run along the longitudinal edge of the rod opposite the long edge. - Tudinel of the rod 2 bordered by the grooves 10, 11, These grooves 10 ', 11' also accuse substantially at the same height as the grooves 10, 11 a double bend, which moves them towards the opposite longitudinal edge. This second part of the grooves 10 ', 11' is lined with rectilinear grooves 12 ', 13'.
At the origin of the double bend of the grooves 10 ', 11' are arranged lères eyes 14 ', 15', chain threads passing through the transverse orifice 9 of the first rod 1 respectively pass through the rectilinear grooves 12, 12 ' and 13, 13 'of rods 2 and 3.
The
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
warp yarns b passing through the slat 1 between the needles 5, 6 pass through the grooves 10, 11 of the rod 2 and the eyelets 14 '; 15 'of the rod 3, while the warp threads also passing through the rod 1 between the needles pass through the eyelets 14, 15 of the rod and the grooves 10', 11 'of the rod 3, it is therefore sufficient to move these different rods in such a movement as by the action of the angled grooves 10, 11 and 10 ', 11' and by the freedom of transverse movement made possible by the blinders 14, 15 and 14 ', 15'.
the warp threads a, b are appropriately moved with a small transverse movement, so that by the rectilinear movement of the needles 5, 6 the third warp thread c. or alternately moved to the left and to the right of the former, so as to produce one of the pseudo-edges shown schematically in FIGS. 8, 9 and 10, which are differentiated exclusively. by the number of picks made between two successive movements of the rod 1, that is to say of the needles 5, 6. These three rods 1, 2, and 3 are housed in a sleeve 16, fixed behind the combs 17.
Each of the rods is biased by a cable 18 passing over pulleys 19'20, 21, 22 and coming to be fixed to a cam device 23, able to operate in due time the traction necessary to move said rods of a small amount suitable.
The warp threads a, b, c come from a small special coil 24 unwinding in the manner of the beam.
This extremely simple device therefore only comprises as essential elements the three rods 1, 2, and 3 animated by an alternating vertical movement of small amplitude. It will be understood that depending on whether this is the branch carried to the left or to the right of the grooves 10, 11, which are placed opposite the blinders 14 ', 15', the warp yarns b. will occupy their left or right position, that is to say that they will be placed to the left or to the right relative to the point of the needles 7, 8 and that the latter will therefore place the chain thread c, respectively to the right or to the left of the wire
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
b. Similarly. For warp thread a depending on whether it is worn part a.
left or right of the grooves 10 ', 11' which is placed opposite the blinders 14, 15, said warp yarn a will be placed on the left or on the right. The transverse movements of the warp yarns a, b are therefore obtained exclusively by the reciprocating rectilinear movement of the rods 2 and 3.
These movements can obviously be caused by any means other than those described above. Similarly, said rods can be completed with any accessories appropriate to their function.
