<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

The invention relates to improvements made. to all devices such as agitators, mixers, grinders and the like., in which it is desirable to maintain horizontal or substantially horizontal, the axis of rotation of the movable elements during the operation of the machine. In fact, such stirring, mixing or other devices with a vertical axis and other devices intended for the same function but with a horizontal axis are known.
In general, in order to cause the stirring or mixing of materials and more especially of liquids, with or without finely divided solids, it is known that devices with a vertical axis have the disadvantage of causing towards the bottom of the apparatus, such reactions that a
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
dome of matter animated by a simple movement of rotation without any agitation. It follows, therefore, that the material has been properly processed and that these devices are inefficient, and that, from the standpoint of results, devices with a horizontal axis are preferred to them.
However, these in turn have the disadvantage of being much more difficult for emptying, sealing and maintenance than cortical axis devices. In fact, either these devices with a horizontal axis have a very large access opening and in this case they have the drawback of requiring a seal of very large surface area making the sealing required in such devices precarious, especially when are used for stirring and mixing volatiles. Or, these devices have a reduced opening, in which case a sufficient seal can be obtained, but emptying and maintenance are made particularly difficult.
The invention overcomes these various drawbacks by combining, in one and the same device, all the advantages of vertical axis devices and horizontal axis devices, without having the drawbacks thereof. In addition to the individual advantages of each of these two devices, this combination introduces additional advantages that are not found in devices with vertical axis and horizontal axis respectively, considered individually. Among other things, the present combination makes it possible to locate the cone in the most favorable angle and for work, and for emptying and for maintenance, which is practically excluded from known devices.
For this purpose and according to the invention, the agitator is mounted oscillating, that is to say that it is capable of taking the position of a device with a vertical axis for filling and emptying and of taking the position a horizontal axis device for work. These different criteria are achieved by mounting in accordance with the invention, the device so that it can rotate around a horizontal axis and provide wedging means.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
in the different characteristic positions, horizontal, vertical and / or inclined,
According to a non-limiting exemplary embodiment of the invention, the apparatus, in ocurence a stirrer, may, according to the very summary diagram of Figures 1, 2 and 3, comprise three essential positions.
A permanent link is ensured between the tank of the apparatus and the motor means while allowing the operationsabde filling, 'emptying and effective work. By these particular means, a compact, well-balanced assembly of simple construction is produced.
According to the diagrams of Figures 1, 2 and 3, the apparatus consists in main order of a tank 1, provided with its stirrer 2, the axis of which is extended towards the rear and directly attacked, with the intervention of 'a speed reducer, by a motor 3. The tilting axis 4 of the device is arranged in an intermediate position between the device itself and the motor means. The result is that the mobile assembly is, as far as possible, in a position of equilibrium, which favors the tilting action with the intervention of a minimum force.
The bottom 2 of the apparatus is provided with a cover 6 of sufficiently small dimensions to ensure a practically tight closure, but sufficiently large to allow both easy filling and emptying of the tank and also to allow the easy maintenance of all organs and interior parts of the duve.
Figure 1 schematically shows the device in its filling position. For this purpose, it is wedged in its high position, that is to say the bottom '2 directed upwards. In this position, the tank can therefore be easily filled in the manner of an ordinary container. door 6 or suitable removable cover or bottom is perfectly closed and the device is placed by a simple tilting into its working position shown schematically in Figure 2. In this position, the axis of the stirrer is arranged horizontally. It could obviously be placed in any intermediate position deemed to be the most
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
suitable for the execution of the work to be done.
It goes without saying that in this position the apparatus will be perfectly supported so that it can work normally without introducing eccentric forces or dangerous tremors.
Finally, the device can be brought into its third position, that is to say its emptying position. This third position, shown diagrammatically in FIG. 3, brings the tank 1 with the bottom 2 directed downwards. This achieves the most favorable position for emptying, it being understood that said bottom 2 and its orifice may be suitable so that emptying takes place rationally in other devices or in containers capable of being placed under the tank. 1.
The improved apparatus, object of the invention, can therefore be produced in an extremely simple manner and fulfill its multiple functions in a rational and systematic manner. The various aforementioned characteristics can be achieved whatever the shape and the very nature of the tilting device. The improvements, objects of the invention, are also independent of the interior elements of the apparatus of any absplum-nt shape and conction and be laced @@@ reil, so that the stirrers 2 whatever even replaced by free elements, such as rollers for example.
We can also vary and adapt the accessories necessary to operate the tilting and wedging of the device in its different positions; Egale.ment, it will be possible to achieve the characteristics, objects of the invention, by not involving the motor and the speed reducer in tilting motion.
It is in fact easily possible to make the tank independent of the motor means during said tilting movements. It suffices in fact to secure the motor to the frame of the machine and to achieve the coupling between the tank and the motor, so that it can freely oscillate for example by rotating around one of the elements of the speed reducer. Similarly, the device of the invention could be applied to an apparatus whose
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
tank itself can be removable; it could itself be driven by the motor in any rotational movement. The tank will preferably be in the shape of a barrel. It may or may not be fitted with heating or cooling means or any other accessory devices to the suit.
By way of example, without any limitation on the scope of the invention, one embodiment is described below and shown diagrammatically in FIG. 4.
According to this execution, the barrel-shaped tank 1 is axially crossed by a pin 2 which extends the axis of the speed reducer 7. directly driven by the motor 3. The pin 2 carries side arms 8, 9, 10 , which are characteristic in that they affect approximately an L-shape, the external branches of which are complementary and hug the internal wall of the tank 1. By complementary, it should be understood that, together, these three branches extend over the entire length of a generator of the tank l. The result is therefore a maximum guarantee in the work of agitation and mixing.
The bottom is closed by a door or cover 6, capable of being fixed in a perfectly sealed manner. the drain orifice is provided with a lip or overflow 11 promoting the flow of liquids towards the containers intended to receive the products coming from the agitator. Towards the rear, the device is extended by a casing or casing 12 covering the motor and serving as protection for the latter and for the speed reducer. The device can oscillate about a horizontal axis 4 integral with a frame 13, which comprises, on the other hand, support points 14 to firmly immobilize the device in the working position. that is to say when the axis 2 is horizontal or substantially horizontal.
Similarly, wedging means are provided for the filling position, either therefore .t and for the emptying position or therefore when the bottom is directed towards the @@@ @@@ when the bottom is directed downwards. Also, in this execution, it will be noted that the masses located on either side of the axis of rotation 4 can be established so that they are as much as possible in equilibrium, which is favorable.
