Fig. 1 est une vue fragmentaire, en coupe d'un raccord incor- porant l'objet de l'invention;
Fig. 2 est une vue en coupe montrant l'application de l'inven tion à un raccord pour deux tuyauteries,-destiné à être monté directe- ment sur une tête de bouteille de gaz comprimé;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"GASKET FOR PRESSURIZED FLUID PIPES '.
The present invention relates to a seal for pressurized fluid pipelines, in particular for compressed gas pipelines. high pressure, allowing the easy connection, with the desirable tightness and solidity, of pipes to the cylinders, containing the compressed gas, or the connection of these pipes to each other.
According to the invention, the sealing of the joint and the tightening or fixing of the tube to be connected are obtained by crushing a plastic metal washer or ring between a conical face of the fixed part of the fitting and a conical face of the part. movable of the latter, these two conical faces cooperating with each other, during the tightening of the movable part of the connector, to cause a push-back of the plastic metal in an annular groove or groove

made on the outside of the pipe to be connected.
By way of example, one embodiment of the subject of the invention is described below with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a fragmentary, sectional view of a connector embodying the object of the invention;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view showing the application of the invention to a coupling for two pipes, intended to be mounted directly on a compressed gas cylinder head;
Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the application of the invention to a fitting intended to be mounted on the shut-off valve of a compressed gas cylinder.
As shown in Fig. 1, the connection pipe 1 of the connector 2 has a cylindrical groove 3 intended to receive the end of the tube 4, for example made of steel or copper. The pipe 1 also has a bore 5 into which engages a stuffing box 6 subjected to the action of a tightening nut 7 screwed onto the pipe 1 and having a vent 7a.
It should be noted that the bottom of the bore 5 is formed by a face 8, preferably conical, while the end face 9 of the stuffing box 6 also has a taper, but in the opposite direction to that of. face 8.
Between the faces 8 and 9 and around the tube 4 is engaged a washer or ring 10 of plastic metal or other material of lower hardness than that of the metal of the pipe 1 and of the stuffing box 7.
Vis-à-vis the washer 10, the tube to be connected 4 has an annular groove 11.
Given this arrangement, it is understood that the screwing of the nut 7 causes, via the gland 6, a crushing of the washer 10 between the conical faces, '8 and 9 and the corresponding part of the bore 5, but that under the effect of the taper of these faces, the metal or the material of the washer 10
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
is forced into the annular groove 11 of the tube to.ronnect 4, thus ensuring a perfect seal between the. tubing 1 and tubing 4.
It is also understood that the repression or expansion of the plastic metal in the. groove 11, under the effect of the tightening of the nut 7, also ensures the fixing, by hooking and friction, of the tube 4 to the tubing 1.
In order to increase the effectiveness of such a seal, a groove similar to the groove 11 may be further formed in the inclined faaa 8 or in the neighboring part of the bore 9 of the. tubing 1.
On the other hand, it should be noted that the face 8, instead of being conical as shown in the drawing, could be flat and perpendicular to the axis of the tube 4 or offer only a small taper.
The fixing of the snorkel 4 by the means described above therefore does not require the presence of any bulge or collar on the end of this
EMI3.1
tube. rxxxcxxxx; x3cxxxx: It suffices to make groove 11 on the end of any tuba of suitable diameter, to allow it to be connected to the. pipe 1, this tube, after grooving, being introduced raw into pipe 1 with its washer 10, its stuffing box 6 and the nut 7 engaged on it. From this moment, it suffices to tighten the union nut 7 strongly on the tubing 1 to ensure a watertight seal as well as the fixing of the tuba to be connected.
Fig. 2 shows the connection of the tube 4, by the means described above, to a connector 2 with two outlets, said connector being intended to be mounted directly on the gas cylinder head, by means of the threaded conical portion 12. The second tube is connected to the tubing, 1a, obviously in the same way as for tube 4.
Fig. 3 shows that the same arrangement could be adopted in the case of a connector 2, with two outlets, itself connected, by the means described above, to the stop valve 13 placed on a
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
gas cylinder. The connection pipe 1b of the shut-off valve must in this case receive a conformation identical to that given to the pipes 1 and 1a.
It goes without saying that the connection device described and shown can be applied equally to two or three-way or multiple-way connections, or even to a special sleeve for the connection of two pipes.
In addition, the seal according to the invention could also be achieved by 'replacing the groove 11 or that which would be made in the inner face of the. connection pipe, by a series of cells or grooves, the discharge therein, of metal or plastic, already being able. ensure adequate sealing of the joint and adequate fixation of the tube in certain applications.
The seal according to the invention has been described in its application to the connection of compressed gas pipes. It should of course be understood that this application is not limiting and that the invention could be used with the same effects, for the connection of liquid pipes.
