REVENDICATIONS

FREEWHEEL SPROCKET FOR BICYCLES.
The subject of the invention is a freewheel sprocket for bioyOlettes comprising a locking system by unrolling, in which the pawls penetrate into the cavities of the chain sprocket which can rotate on the hub of the bicycle on which it is mounted. Since chain sprockets of this kind are not used, the oliquets have an external toothing provided on the hub. This has the disadvantage that the pawls are subjected to shear in an approximately tangential direction. As a result such sprockets are exposed to rapid wear, so these sprockets had virtually no success.
The invention avoids this drawback in a simple and safe manner, by virtue of the pawls engaging an internal toothing of a ring concentric with the hub but unable to rotate with the latter. In this way, the pawls penetrate substantially radially into the hubs. teeth, so that these are no longer subjected to the forces of nesting.
A jamming automatically occurs so that the teeth may have excessively reduced dimensions, which further gives the advantage of giving the pawls

very numerous points of attack.
The accompanying drawing shows by way of example an embodiment aveo a variant.
Fig. I shows the assembly of the freewheel pinion mounted on a hub in vertical longitudinal section: Figs. 2 to 7 give views of the different elements of the chain sprocket.
Fig.8 shows an alternative embodiment of the chain sprocket in vertical longitudinal section.
On the usual cylindrical hub a of the shaft or axis b is mounted a hollow cylinder c, which can be assembled with the hub either by screwing, or as shown in Fig. I by means of a bayonet lock. hollow cylinder o has an annular recess, which thus has the shape of a U in cross section. The shorter annular outer arm 1 has internal toothing 1. On the longer arm of the hollow cylinder c can turn the chain sprocket cleanly said ±, which in order to lengthen the running surface has an annular projection h, which extends into the annular recess d of the hollow cylinder c.
The pinion g is laterally guided between the shorter arm e of the hollow cylinder c and a washer i, which is connected to the hollow cylinder 2. by a bayonet lock and is held in place by a screwed cap k. The washer i has on the side directed towards the cap k a series of cavities 1 in which a lug m can be housed carried by the ohapeau k and subjected to the action of a spring (Fig. 6 and 7). Thanks to this construction, on the one hand, the cap is prevented from coming off automatically and an absolutely precise assembly of the chain sprocket is obtained.
According to the invention, the * chain sprocket g has two diametrically-opposed é @ hancrures n, these are chambers in which the pawls enter. The pawls are held in their chambers n by springs p.
Fig.3 shows a view of the hollow cylinder o in the position of Fig.I but seen from the right. The hollow cylinder has four noses r to realize the bayonet closure in the hub, and a groove! IL, in which s' hang the puck! by its

nose s forming a bayonet closure.
Fig.3 is a view of the pinion of ohaine g in the position of Fig.I seen from left. In order to show the attachment of the pawls o in the teeth f, the latter is shown in dotted lines.
Fig.4 is a faoe view of the washer i.
Fig.5 shows a pawl 0 seen from the side and from the front. The oliquet has a groove% which serves to guide it in your chain sprocket g.
The hat k is shown laterally in Fig.6 and faoe in Fig.7. On its outer faoe is fixed a leaf spring u, which carries the lug m, which protrudes through a hole drilled in the hat k, on its internal faoe.
The chain sprocket according to the invention thus has a reduced number of parts compared to known chain sprockets, 11 is therefore of cheaper construction. In addition, its assembly and disassembly are extraordinarily simple. After having unscrewed the cap k, it suffices to open the bayonet lock holding the washer i, after which one can simply separate the chain sprocket g from the hub and replace it with a new one .. '.
Contrary to known devices, the first comer can easily change the chain sprocket himself, which is sometimes necessary due to wear or breakage of the chain sprocket and was on the other hand desirable to change the transmission ratio. In the known devices not only is the removal of the chain sprocket very difficult, and even impossible in the case of a chain sprocket in service for a long time, but it is also impossible to replace only the chain sprocket, it is indeed always necessary to replace all parts of the device,
because the numerous moving parts which compose it are mounted one inside the other in such a way that the replacement of a single part would disturb the whole. Then, owing to the reduced number of the elements of the device, this one can according to the invention be of construction if
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
picked up that for the first time you can use a 14-tooth half-inch chain sprocket. Moreover, this compact construction and the ease of changing the chain sprocket have the advantage of being able to replace damaged spokes very easily.
In fact, the spoke holes v drilled in the hub a are situated a little beyond the ring e of the hollow cylinder o, so that after removal of the chain sprocket g the spokes can be easily placed.
The arrangement given to the oreux cylinder o is advantageous; however, it is not essential. Instead of this arrangement, the pinion could also be fitted; g directly on the cylindrical axis b of the hub a and fix the internal toothed ring e directly to the hub. In this way, an even more compact construction can be obtained; however, it is then necessary to give the hub a special shape, while the embodiment shown in the drawing can be used with the existing hub in the commeroe.
In the embodiment shown in Fig.B, the hollow cylinder o screwed onto the Cylindrical hub a of the shaft b does not have the shape of a U in cross section, but has only one side flange more small, which serves as a retaining surface for the chain sprocket g rotating on the Hollow Cylinder c. This sprocket g. again has an extension h serving as a rotation surface, which is provided towards the outside of the pinion, unlike what takes place in the embodiment of FIG. I.
Thanks to this construction, the chain sprocket g occupies a more central position with respect to the hub, resulting in a more favorable exposure for the hub in relation to the forces it can withstand. On the hollow cylinder o is mounted without power turn a ring iI of angular cross section and extending to the pinion g .. This ring has an internal toothing which attack the pawls o carried by the chain sprocket g .. Chain sprocket and ring are held in place at medium of the hat kI.
This had a spring mI in the form of a ring which, in the same way as shown in Fig. 6 and 7, enters through a protruding nose.

lant in cavities I provided on the ring i and therefore prevents automatic loosening of the cap.
