<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Fig.6 est une élévation de la soupape.
Fig.7 représente en plan le guide-soupape.

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

Léon B E R N H A R D T The present invention relates to a valve, in which the valve moves only in the vertical direction while its guide, controlled by the operating lever, executes a horizontal rotational movement around its axis. This tap has very substantial advantages over those currently in use. The usual stuffing box around the stem of the key having, in the new valve, been replaced by a hermetic internal seal, no leak can therefore ever occur at this point when opening. The washer of leather, rubber or the like, which is simply pushed into the bowl of the valve, does not require any kind of fastening device for its fixing; its possible removal and replacement therefore presents no difficulty.
It should also be noted that, resting on a wide valve seat and not being subjected to the tiring movement so often repeated of rotary tightening and loosening on a very narrow seat, it is not exposed to wear. quick and frequently replaced with ordinary brass taps. Yet another advantage of the new valve resides in that its connection tube is provided with a securing nut, which avoids any excess tightening during positioning. This tap can be made of any metal, but it is preferably made of a light alloy and

stainless steel, such as alpax, and its exterior parts are polished, so that it retains its new appearance indefinitely, thus eliminating any subsequent cleaning with maintenance products.
An embodiment of the object of the invention is shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing.
Fig.l is a plan view and Fig.2, a longitudinal section.
Fig.3 is a cross section taken along A-A of fig.l.
Fig. 4 shows a plan of the valve with the bonnet and the valve removed.
Fig. 5 is a view from below of the flow opening and
Fig.6 is an elevation of the valve.
Fig. 7 is a plan of the valve guide.
The new valve firstly comprises the usual connector 1 which is screwed by one of its ends onto the fluid supply line, under pressure or not, to be used (water, gas, steam, air or other), the the other end passing through the body 2 of the valve which comes in one piece with it to be attached to the front inner face of this body and leaving on its lateral sides two hollow spaces 3 communicating with the outlet 4. In the center of the body 2, the connector 1 is pierced with an opening for the passage of the fluid to be drained, the opening of which the edge 5, machined with two ribs, serves as a seat for a fork valve 6 overlapping in this place the raocord 1, the two branches 7 of this fork entering the hollow spaces 3 and thus opposing any rotational movement of the aforesaid valve.
Three grooves 8, very advantageously replacing the known jet-breakers, which are generally not very solid and which quickly become dirty, are made inside the flow tube 4.
The over-tightening of the connector 1, which is very often necessary to get the valve to its normal position, when it is placed, are avoided by using a lock nut 9 which prevents any loosening when it is put in position

on duty.
A rubber washer 10, or the like or the like, which is pressed without play into the opening formed on the underside of the valve 6 between the branches 7 of the fork, serves as a seal between said valve and its seat 5. The valve 6 is attached by a threaded stud 11 to a two-cylinder valve guide 12 passing through a closure cap 13, by a sheath 14 provided at the top thereof, the upper end 15 of this valve guide, of square section, penetrating into a hole of the same section dug in the base of the head 16 of a handle 17 for operating the valve. The head 16 is pierced in its center with a hole for the passage of a fixing screw 18, the lower part of which is fixed in the upper end 15 of the valve guide 12.
The cap 13 is inserted by its thinned lower part of engagement in the body 2 and bears, on the one hand, on an annular shoulder provided inside this body, by means of a leather washer or of rubber 19 forming an ethanol seal between these two parts and, on the other hand, by a median shoulder 20, on the upper edge of said body. Two screws 21 passing through the thinned wall of the body 2 and coming to be fixed in threaded blind holes made in an internal boss 22 of the cap 13, firmly joins these two parts to one another. The purpose of the boss 22 is not only to reinforce the cap but also to prevent the screws 21 from making any contact with the fluid to be made to flow and any possible oxidation.
Finally, a third leather or rubber washer 23 ensures absolutely complete sealing of the valve between the bonnet 13 and the valve guide 12.
To dismantle the faucet, it is enough to unscrew the screws 18 and 21 and all the parts come off one from the other. If it is only desired to replace the main jointing washer 10, the operation is even simpler; all you have to do is unscrew the two screws 21 and remove from the body 2 the cap 13 containing all the moving parts of the valve,
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
extract the used seal 10 from the bottom of the valve 6, replace it with a new seal, then, after putting the cap 13 back in place, tighten the screws 21.
To open the valve, the latter being in the closed position as shown in fig.l and 2, the handle 17 is made to perform a certain rotation, for example 45, in the direction of the arrow drawn in fig.l . The handle 17, due to the square section of its hole which serves as a housing for the upper end 15, of the same shape and dimensions, of the valve guide 12, drives the latter in its rotation, which, because of this movement, accentuates the screwing of its threaded stud 11 on the valve 6 and raises the latter above its seat, which allows the fluid to exit the valve. If it is judged that the jet of fluid is insufficient, the magnitude of the rotation of the stalk 17 is increased, which can, if necessary and without inconvenience, be diverted to the full stroke.
To close the valve, all you have to do is turn the lever 17 in the opposite direction and all the parts will thus be returned to their position shown in fig. 1 and 2.
CLAIMS.
1.- Valve made of any suitable material, but preferably made of a metal or a light alloy and stainless, for any pressurized fluid or not, characterized in that its valve guide (12), which is actuated by an operating lever (17), executes, in the sheath (la) of the cap (13), only a horizontal rotational movement around its axis, while the valve (6), which is integral with it, only moves bottom to top and top to bottom so as to alternately open and close the fluid outlet opening.
