<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Motor assembled with a gearbox, forming the subject of a patent application filed in Switzerland on July 24, 1931.
Electric motors are already known assembled with a bundle of gears, in which the toothed wheel @

drive is mounted directly on the free end of the motor shaft, while the cooperating wheel, with the drive shaft, rested in a special box fixed to the motor. This arrangement increases the difficulty of obtaining lasting good engagement of the teeth. In addition, the gear wheels cannot be provided with a simple helical toothing, because the normal bearings of the motors do not lend themselves to withstand the axial pressure which occurs in this case.
In another construction, the free end of the motor shaft is coupled to a gearbox, the gearbox of which is screwed to or cast with the motor housing. In the case where a rigid coupling is used, there is the danger that the axes of the two shafts do not coincide strictly, which causes displacement of the teeth meshing together and jamming of the shafts in the bearings. On the other hand, the use of one of the usual elastic couplings increases the length of the gearbox and therefore the cost of construction.
The object of the present invention is a motor assembled with a gearbox, in which the aforementioned drawbacks are avoided owing to the fact that the gear wheel driven by the motor comprises a hollow shaft having its own support and traversed by a member for coupling the motor with this hollow shaft.

The appended drawing represents, by way of example, various embodiments of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is an overall view of the motor with the gearbox, and FIGS. 2 - 5 show different embodiments of the gearbox.
In the example of execution according to FIG. 2, the shaft 2 of the motor 1 (FIG. 1) is provided, at its free end, with a square head 3 in easily dissolvable connection with a coupling part 4 having a correspondingly shaped recess. The coupling piece 4 is arranged in the hollow pinion shaft 5; its free end is provided with keyways and engages in a matching recess of the hollow shaft 5 on the side opposite the motor. This shaft 5 bears at its two ends in the gearbox 9. The pinion 6 meshes with the toothed wheel 7, the shaft 8 of which also bears in the box 9. The latter is fixed to the bearing flange 10 of the motor (Fig. 1).
In the case where. the axes of the two coupled shafts would not coincide strictly, the mobile coupling part 4 absorbs this difference in position. In addition, this coupling part can also be elastic, which protects the engine from load surges. The assembly of the motor and of the gearbox thus becomes notably simpler; The group length and manufacturing cost are reduced to a minimum.

In the embodiment according to FIG. 3, the coupling piece 4 has at each end an appendage established in the form of a shaft with keyways, which both engage in a matching recess of the two shafts 2, 5 to be coupled.
Figs. 4 and 5 show a similar arrangement with the difference that the coupling part 4 is fixedly connected to the hollow pinion shaft, while the other end, according to f ig. 4, is also established in the form of a keyway shaft. Instead of the latter, provision has been made in FIG. 5, an elastic rod coupling which, together with the elastic coupling piece, gives particularly great mobility to the entire coupling device.
