<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

"IMPROVEMENTS FOR MOTOR VEHICLES, LAND,
NAUTICAL OR AERIAL "
The present invention relates to improvements to motor vehicles, land, water or air,
These improvements are mainly characterized in that a depression or suction is produced in the front region of the enclosure receiving the motor in order to create, in this enclosure, a flow of air directed, in principle, into the sana of the motor. movement of the vehicle and to evacuate the air to the outside, this air being initially admitted directly into the enclosure and preferably into the rear region thereof.
A first embodiment consists in making the depression in front of the radiator so that the
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
air circulation, carried out in the enclosure, passes through this radiator in the opposite direction to the movement of the vehicle in order to be evacuated laterally to the outside.
A second embodiment consists in making two independent circuits, one for the circulation of the cooling air a. through the radiator, the other for the evacuation of polluted air and to prevent its accumulation in the enclosure receiving the engine.
The invention extends to all the means. - for the implementation of the main characteristics stated above, some of these means being described, by way of example only, in the following text with reference to the drawing annexed, in which:
Figures 1 to 8 inclusive show different embodiments with a single air circuit,
Figures 9 to 13 inclusive show different embodiments with two circuits,
Figure 14 illustrates another form.
In FIG. 1, a motor vehicle 1 oomporte a radiator 2 and an engine 3 arranged under an oapotage 4 limiting an enclosure 5 formed, at its rear part, by the apron of the vehicle. Deflectors 30 and 31, arranged in front of the radiator, make it possible to create, in front of the latter and under the action of the relative wind, a depression carrying out a circulation of air from the enclosure 5, through the radiator 2 and in the forward direction. The air is admitted to the lower rear part of the enclosure 5 through a channel 13, as shown in FIG. 11, the air moving in the enclosure, in principle in the direction of travel of the vehicle.
Figures 2, 3 and 4 illustrate variant embodiments showing different arrangements of the deflectors 30 and 31, these deflectors can be orientable as
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
shown in Figure '4 and fans may be arranged either behind the radiator (Figure 2) or in front of oelui-oi (Figure 4) to aotivate circulation.
In FIG. 5, the pan 32 of a propeller of an airplane forms a deflector in front of a light 33 formed in front of the enclosure 5 of an engine 3. The air is admitted into the enclosure. 5 by lights 33 limited by shutters, preferably adjustable. Adjustable shutters can be provided in the channel 14 (Figure 11) Or a shutter 18 can be plaoé at the entrance of this channel.
Figure 6 illustrates a variant in which the pan 32 is combined with a deflector 30 open in its central region.
FIG. 7 is a variant of the devices shown in FIGS. 1, 2, 3 or 4 and applied to an airplane.
Figure 8 is another embodiment.
Screens can be arranged in the circuit of the enclosure 5 to direct the air flow on the parts more specially to be cooled.
In figures 9 to 13 inclusive, two independent circuits are produced, one for the radiator 2, the other for the enclosure 5. A deflector 6 is interposed between the radiator 2 and the motor 5, so as to constitute, between the radiator and the chamber 5, a front chamber 7. Lights 8 are always in depression as a result of the defection created by the radiator, this defleotion being able to be increased by side deflectors 16. Dea screens 9 constitute, with the deflector 6, channels 10 communicating, at 11, with the front chamber 7 and, at 12, with the rear chamber 5.
The defleoteura, or screens 6 and 9 are preferably divergent, the divergence being oriented
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
towards the rear, or the walls oriented towards the evacuation slots 8. The depression created in the channels 10 is produced by the deflection produced by the deflectors 6.
Channel 14 (figure 11). the inlet opening of which is directed towards the front, allows the air streams to be admitted directly into the lower rear region of the chamber 5.
The shutter 18, arranged for the indicated purpose, can also control a lumen 19 provided 4 in the lower part of the chamber 7, so that this shutter, by releasing the lumen 19 and closing the inlet of the channel 14 or nozzle 13. carries out the communication between rooms 7 and 5 by channel 14.
The flow of the air streams, in the various devices shown, is indicated by arrows.
The radiator cooling circuit can be carried out freely without rear back pressure limiting no flow rate and the circuit in enclosure 5 prevents overpressure in this enclosure, while ensuring the evacuation of oil and gasoline vapors. .
In FIG. 11, the deflector 6 completely separates the chambers 7 and 5. The openings 8a and 8b in depression ensure, respectively and independently, the evacuation of the air streams of the two circuits. Walls are provided to direct the air in specific directions.
Figures 12 and 13 illustrate a variant embodiment of two completely independent circuits, this variant being applied. a bus. The radiator is extended laterally by deflecting walls 16. The evacuation of the radiator cooling circuit is effected by the side openings 80. In this form, the air streams move in the chamber 5 transversely and are laterally evacuated. A fan 17 activates the
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
radiator cooling circuit; we could also provide a fan in bedroom 5.
Fig. 14 illustrates another embodiment in which a deflector 30 is placed in front of the vehicle to provide a side deflection drawing air through side radiators 2 or a V-shaped radiator as shown in combination. The circulation is also activated by a suction fan in chamber 5.
The circuit made in this enclosure which is extended by the radiator circuit can also include side evacuation branches as in the previous cases.
