 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

A son extrémité opposée à la boîte de vitesse c,   la   moteur- b est pourvu d'une plaque o formant couvercle dont un appendioe central p pénètre par une portée extrême de section oarrée dans une console q;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

  Improvements to blinds.

   The invention relates to mechanically actuated blinds,. especially those for which an electric motor controls the extension or the withdrawal.

   The object of the invention is to establish an awning with a gathered structure, the motor and the speed reduction devices, possibly added to the motor, being effectively protected against any danger of deterioration.

   According to the invention, the motor is contained in a hollow drum, to which it is connected, and with which it cooperates by means of a reduction gear train, also contained in the drum. The assembly formed by the drum of the blind, the motor and the gear train can be established inside a fixed box or case, the free edge of the fabric which constitutes the blind being fixed to a mobile crosspiece mounted on radial rods capable of pivoting; the drum can also be mounted directly on the radial rods so that it can be moved away from or brought closer to the building which it preserves from the action of solar rays.

   In the attached drawing:
Fig.l is a partial longitudinal section of a blind drum constructed according to the invention.

   Fig. 2 shows, on a reduced scale, the blind seen from

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 side.

   Referring to Fig.1, we see the improved blind drum containing an electric motor b and a gearbox c, invariably connected to each other. The extension of the shaft d¯ of the motor armature penetrates a short length inside the gearbox ± and carries, in this place, an endless screw engaging with a helical toothed wheel ; this is olavetée on a transverse shaft ± which actuates, by means of the straight toothed wheels h, a second transverse shaft!, on which an endless screw is mounted.

   A shaft k of reduced length, aligned with the shaft d of the motor armature, carries a helical gear 1. located inside the gearbox ;, and meshing with the worm 1; the end of this shaft 'located outside the box has a square section and engages an opening of the same shape drilled in a control plate m which is secured to a boia n core filling the cavity of the drum *
At its end opposite to the gearbox c, the motor b is provided with a plate o forming a cover of which a central appendage p penetrates through an extreme bearing of section oarrée in a console q;

   the consoles, two in number, constitute supports for the ends of the roller blind, a ball bearing, or any anti-friction pad r being interposed between the extension of the cover and the drum a to contribute to the centering motor and to support the drum. At its end furthest from the motor b, the drum a is supported by a support, not shown; it may contain a torsion spring (not shown) serving to balance the weight of the drum when the latter performs its upward or downward movement.

   The awning drum can be fixed invariably above a window, door or any other part of a building to be protected against the action of sunlight; the fabric of which the blind is made is fixed by its edges; opposed to

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 drum and a cross member. mobile carried by radial arms, according to the usual practice of building blinds. The drum a can also be mounted in a different way as shown in Figures 1 and 2; it will be carried by a mobile cross member s subject to radial arms t capable of oscillating in vertical and journaled planes; in - bearings. or supports u of the building facade.

   One of the edges of the fabric from which the atore is made is fixed inside a box w intended to contain the rolled up blind when not in use and of which the front wall and the bottom wall are made up .% by the traverse supported by the radial arms.

   The cables carrying current to the motor pass through the hollow appendix 2 and are connected to suitable switches (not shown) which serve to control the movement of the blind.

   The system may include a two-way switch: for starting the engine and limit switches. and inverters; these. devices will be put into action by the device itself. who controls the blind; they will determine the stop of the engine and the reversal of the connections of. his winding up when he will have to. undertake the second stage of its movement.

   With a disposition like this, every time; when you act on the start switch, the blind will go from the fully developed state to the fully retracted state.

  But, if desired, the control device can be modified to stop the blind in an intermediate position between these two extreme positions - *
It is also easily understood that it is possible to remove the drum. engine and gearbox to inspect, adjust or repair them or to carry out any operation on them that may seem necessary.
