<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
seulement.
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a machine suitable for digging trenches in the ground.
It has the particularity of being portable and compact, not requiring large workspaces during its use.
State of the art
There are already machines on the market for trenching. They are chain fitted with scrapers or buckets or even a backhoe type.
These machines have a great output and especially used for long trenches of important section.
Aims of the present invention
The present invention aims to provide a machine for digging trenches, compact and reduced in weight. It aims to provide a machine of the aforementioned type capable of digging trenches with a smaller section than those dug by the machines mentioned above.
It is characterized in that it comprises a frame or sled moved on the ground by a rope and supporting a rotary tool driven into the ground.
The trenching machine according to the invention digs a trench whose width can be very close to the dimension of the object it will receive.
Essential elements of the invention
According to the present invention, the trench digging machine is constituted by a frame which overhangs the trench. It supports a motor which drives

a tool shaft, for example via a chain reduction. This frame can also support a winch driven by the engine. In this case, the machine is moved by winding a rope, cable or chain. This is then fixed to a stake driven into the ground.
The trench is dug by a rotary tool driven into the ground and moved in a direction approximately perpendicular to its axis. The commissioning of the machine consists of a simple insertion of the tool by a screwing effect until the frame in the form of a sled lands on the ground.
At this time, the actuation of the winch operates the movement in the desired direction. This process avoids plowing the ground with caterpillars or by crane wheels with the steps. A device for reversing the direction of travel of the tool enables it to be raised or to cause a possible unlocking operation of the tool.
A wall parallel to the axis of the tool having approximately the width of the trench is located behind the tool so as to impose the ascent of the earth.
Figures 1 and 2 show, in elevation and in plan a trenching machine placed on the ground.
A sled-shaped frame 1 is made of mechanical soda, supports a motor 2 and a chain reduction 3 which drives a tool holder shaft 4 perpendicular to the sled 1. The shaft 4 is rigidly guided by two bearings 5. A tool 7 of length and diameter chosen as a function of the trench to be dug can be fixed to the tool-carrying shaft 4 by means of a quick-fixing arrangement.
The winch 33 is driven by the oscillating movement of a lever 15. The latter is actuated by a connecting rod 16 connected to a crank pin 17 fixed to the chain wheel 18 by a smooth 34). This crank pin 17 can also be moved radially so that an ideal machine speed can be adopted.
The oscillating lever 15 operates the rotation of the winch drum 33 via a free wheel 20, this in one direction
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
only. Another free wheel 21 prevents reverse rotation of the winch 33 during the return of the lever 15.
In order to allow the unwinding of the rope 23, the drum 33 can slide laterally on the shaft 19 so as to cause its declutching and thus a completely free rotation in both directions. A spring 35 pushes the drum 33 so as to cause its dog-clutching with the drive shaft 19 using the clapper device 56.
In order to automatically adjust the speed of movement of the machine according to the hardness of the soil, the connecting rod 16 is sliding. A spring 37 limits the thrust operated on the lever 15. A nut 36 authorizes the adjustment of the value of the stress of the spring 37. A disengageable crank 38 is provided for winding the rope 23.
A stake 30, driven into the ground, retains a hauling system39.
This in order to reduce the pulling force in the rope 23 and also allow greater oscillation of the lever 15.
The front of the machine is rounded in sled 31. A hole with a guide 32 allows the passage of the rope 23 coming from the drum 33. A hooking point 40 is provided for fixing the end of the rope 23 coming from hauling 39 retained by the stake 30
The tool Figures 3,4 and 5 is composed of a pipe 41 equipped at its upper part with a centering washer 42 on the motorized shaft 4 of the machine and whose outside diameter will be equal to the inside diameter of the pipe 41. Another washer 43 located below, will also provide centering between the motorized shaft 4 and the inside of pipe 41.
In addition, there will be found in this washer 43 a non-cylindrical opening 44 intended to ensure the rotary drive by the motorized shaft 4. The underside of this washer 43 is provided with two V-shaped grooves 45 located in the axis corresponding to two sides of the drive opening 44. These grooves 45 are provided to receive
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
a device for axially locating the tool 7 with the motorized shaft 4 of the machine. This device is composed of a U-shaped pin 46 to be chased by hand and made from a spring wire.
The lower part of the motorized shaft 4 is also provided with a non-cylindrical end 47 equipped with two V-shaped grooves 48 located opposite the grooves 45 hollowed out in the washer 43. The lower end of the pipe 41 is closed by a plug 49 provided with a center hole 50 intended for

support the end of the tool during the winding on edge of the flat 51. The shape of this plug 49 is conical so as to facilitate the first penetration into the ground.
A flat 51, wound in a helix around the pipe 41 according to a pitch chosen with the aim of raising the earth during the rotary movement of the tool 7.
The aggressiveness of the flat 51 can be increased by notches 52 cut on the outside edge of the flat 51.
Another way of increasing the aggressiveness of the wound flat part 51 is to insert there bars of tungsten carbide to be fixed by brazing, or also with conical bars 53 to be driven out with a hammer. The edge of the flat part 51 can also be buttered with a solder impregnated with fragments of very hard material and with variable particle size.
The lower end 54 of the flat part 51 will be at least extended on the conical part. of the plug 49 in order to facilitate the first penetration of the tool into the ground 55.
It will also be stocked with hard spots 53.
The flat surface 51 bent in a helix will be welded to the pipe 41 by a discontinuous weld bead, 54.
The clutch of the winch drum 33 with the shaft 19 will be made with a sputtering device 56.
