<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
Veronderstelt men dat de kunstneus in het toestel aan de zijde van het mondstuk 2 voorkomt, dan heeft men achtereenvolgens in de kamer 1 de hierna beschreven opeenvolging van onderdelen : a) een bacteriënfilter 6 b) een hygroscopische stof 7 die een bufferwerking uitoefent. De hygroscopische stof 7 heeft een vorm die is aangepast aan de dwarsdoorsnede van de kamer 1. In dit geval is dit een schijf. Elke stof met grote hygroscopische eigenschappen kan hiervoor in aanmerking komen ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

"Device to compensate for the moisture and heat loss of a patient's artificial nose placed in a patient"
This invention relates to a device for compensating for the moisture and heat loss of an artificial nose placed on a patient.
Artificial noses are devices that are used in a line between a patient and a machine, usually known as a fan, to allow the patient to recover part of the moisture and heat contained in his exhaled air.
In many cases, such a device is not sufficient to maintain the desired humidity level and temperature.
The object of the invention is therefore to prescribe a device that reliably solves the problem outlined above and that, therefore, whatever the shortcomings of the artificial nose, in the technical language also as "heat moisture"
EMI1.1
exchanger or LIMB "ensure the necessary humidity and heat level of the air and / or mixture of air and gases administered to a known patient.
In order to ensure this according to the invention, the device according to the invention has been developed to be switched on in the line supplying air and / or gases to a patient and consists of a chamber that acts as an actual artificial nose and in which a hygroscopic buffer acting as a buffer dust is present, at a clear distance

a self-regulating resistance is provided for this material.
In a preferred embodiment, the above-mentioned resistor is mounted in the above-mentioned chamber.
According to a possible variant, the above-mentioned resistance is mounted outside the above-mentioned room, between this room and the patient.
It is recommended when the above-mentioned resistance is externally water-absorbent and means are provided to add water to this resistance.
According to a possible embodiment, the above-mentioned resistance is surrounded by a sleeve consisting of a water-absorbing fabric to which water is supplied.
According to another possible embodiment, the above-mentioned resistance is formed by a fabric, part of which of the weft and / or warp threads consists of deformation resistors.
Other details and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description of an apparatus for compensating for the fluid and heat loss of an artificial nose placed on a patient, according to the invention. This description is given by way of example only and does not limit the invention. The reference numbers refer to the attached figures.

Figure 2 is an enlarged side view of a heating resistor according to a first possible embodiment.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal section through one
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
variant of the invention with exploded parts.
Figure 4 is a front view, after section, taken on the line IV-IV of Figure 3 of a resistor according to a variant.
The appliance according to figure 1 consists of a chamber 1 with two nozzles 2 and 3 which are connected to a pipe (not shown) to a machine (usually a fan is meant here).
The function of an artificial nose (often called HME in professional language) was outlined in the introduction. The structure of the actual artificial nose does not therefore form the essence of the invention.
The device with which the loss of heat and moisture of an artificial nose can be compensated consists of a chamber 1 which can for instance arise from the connection of two halves 4 and 5 to which the aforementioned nozzles 2 and 3 respectively connect. Because in normal circumstances, d. i. when the air is circulating from left to right (according to figures 1 and 3) or vice versa, nozzles 2 and 3 can alternatively be regarded as an inlet and outlet for the circulating air through said chamber.
Assuming that the artificial nose is present in the device on the side of the mouthpiece 2, the sequence of parts described below in the chamber 1 is successively: a) a bacteria filter 6 b) a hygroscopic substance 7 which exerts a buffering action. The hygroscopic substance 7 has a shape adapted to the cross section of the chamber 1. In this case, this is a disc. Any substance with large hygroscopic properties can be considered for this;
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
c) at a clear distance from the disc of hygroscopic substance 7 there is a resistor 8 which inserts into a metal sleeve 9. Such a sleeve can best consist of aluminum. Although this is not essential, it is recommended when a water-absorbing material 10 is applied over almost the entire length of the sleeve 9.
This may be a fabric, but the metal sleeve 9 may be covered with a water-absorbing material. Water is then supplied directly, by gravity or by a pump, to the water-absorbing substance 10 through a pipe 11.
The resistor 8 mentioned under c) above is a self-regulating resistor with a 12V supply.
In a variant, the self-regulating resistor in the form of a disc 12 (Figures 3 and 4) may exist. Such a disc is cut from a fabric, some of which warp and / or warp threads are electrically conductive. The power supply can take place as shown in figure 4 where two conductors 13 and 14 extend arcuately over a portion of the disc. Assuming that the resistance wires (according to Figure 4) extend vertically, a vertical center strip will mainly be under tension. If necessary, water can be supplied to this disc 12 or to its central strip through a pipe 11.
The structure, both of the electrically conductive wires and that of the other wires, allows a regular spread and therefore also an evaporation of the water.
The disc 12 can be clamped between the two halves 4 and 5 constituting the chamber 1 or by any suitable and known per se
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
technique with the wall of the half 5.
By a calibrated choice of the resistors, both those that have the shape as represented by Figures 1 and 2, and those that have the shape of the disk 12, and by dosing the amount of water that has passed through the pipe 11 as required resistance, both the temperature and the humidity of the air breathed in by the patient through the artificial nose can be kept at the desired level by evaporation.
Heat and moisture loss in the artificial nose can thus be compensated with technically reliable and easily controllable means.
The buffer effect for which the hygroscopic 7 is responsible is greatly enhanced by the presence of this substance at a distance from a self-regulating resistor according to one of the two embodiments described above. These resistors are PTC or NTC resistors.
In accordance with the spirit of the invention, the resistors of the type according to figure 2 or according to figure 4 described here can be mounted completely outside the chamber 1. The chamber 1 with the hygroscopic substance 7 and the bacteria filter 6 is then reduced to the actual artificial nose. The resistor is coated with the fabric in contact with this resistor through the aluminum sleeve 9 or from the fabric constituting the disk 12 to which water is supplied. then engaged in the previously suggested guidance between the artificial nose and the patient. When the buffering action of the hygroscopic substance 7 fails or fails, the action of the resistance of the type shown in Figures 1 and 2 will
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
or of the type according to figure 4 satisfactorily compensate for the moisture and heat loss of the artificial nose.
From the description given above of the device according to the invention it thus appears that with technically simple but reliable means an excellent solution has been provided to the problem of ensuring the heat and humidity level in or in combination with an artificial nose.
