<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
On remarque également, fig.

Front end for trailer or truck.
The present invention relates to a front end for a truck trailer.
Modern trailer fore-ends are generally articulated with respect to the front of the chassis by means of a slewing ring; the axle is equipped with a braking system as well as a suspension.
The connection between the front end of the trailer and the truck is effected by means of a coupling, which is conventionally positioned at the upper part of the front end to be fixed, at the level of the truck , on a hook also placed relatively high on the chassis of the truck.
New coupling systems of variable length, to reduce the interval between the truck and its trailer as described in particular in documents FR-A-2. 533. 172, 2. 570. 654, 2. 585. 295, appeared: these new coupling systems represent a significant mass suspended partly, at the forefront of the trailer. Furthermore, these coupling systems have resulted in a fairly marked increase in the length of the trailers and in particular in the wheelbase, compared with conventional trailers, and movements have appeared at the level of the front end. cause some instability.
The subject of the invention is a front end which makes it possible to remedy the drawbacks which have appeared; its purpose is to improve the geometry of the front end and thereby significantly improve the stability, in all circumstances, of the trailer.
The front end according to the invention comprises: - a frame articulated with respect to the chassis of the trailer by means of an orientation ring, - an axle, possibly suspended, carried by said frame, - and a coupling ensuring the connection between said frame and a hook located at the rear of the truck; the hitch is arranged substantially horizontally
EMI1.1
behind the truck and its anchoring on the frame of the fore-end is effected substantially at the same level as the axis of the axle of said fore-end, in the normal normal position of the trailer, during taxiing.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Still according to the invention, the axle axis is set back from the axis of gyration of the slewing ring. This shrinkage is between 0 and 15 centimeters; preferably it is substantially equal to 5 centimeters.
Still according to the invention, the b ti comprises, at the front, hitch anchoring arms, which extend downward, integral with the support structures of the axle suspension system.
The invention will be better understood with the aid of the following description and of the attached drawings given by way of indication, and in which: I - FIG. 1 schematically represents the rear part of a truck and the front part of a trailer; the coupling being of the variable length type; - Figure 2 shows, schematically, the frame of the front end of the trailer; - Figure 3 shows a half top view of the frame shown in Figure 2.
As shown in Figure 1, the rear part of the truck 1 has, under its chassis 2, a structure 3 which extends down behind the wheels 4, and which carries, turns towards the trailer 5, a hook 6 receiving a hitch 7 which provides the connection between said truck 1 and said trailer 5. A coupling 7 of the type described in documents FR-A-2 is shown as an exemplary embodiment. 570. 654 and 2. 585. 295 cited above. This type of coupling considerably reduces the dead space between the rear wall of the truck and the front face of the trailer. Particular means, not described, and not forming part of the invention, control the automatic evolution of the length of the coupling 7.
The trailer 5 comprises a foreword 8 disposed under the Chassis 9 and consisting of: - a frame 10 articulated by means of an orientation ring 11 secured to said frame and the chassis 9 of the trailer; - an axle 12 secured to the b ti 10 by conventional suspension means, not shown, articulated in particular on a vertical structure 13 which appears at the front of the wheel

14, behind the vertical arm 15 which serves as an anchor for the coupling 7.
The bat 10 is shown in more detail, FIG. 2 and FIG. 3. This bat 10 essentially consists of a rectangular frame on which is fixed the slewing ring 11 itself secured to the trailer; the vertical axis of gyration 16 of this slewing ring is shown in the two figures. We also notice, fig. 3, the axle 12 and in particular its position relative to the axis 16 of the slewing ring 11.
The axle 17 of the axle is substantially set back from
EMI3.1
the axis 16, that is to say towards the rear of the trailer, at a distance L which is in a range from zero to fifteen centimeters approximately. For this type of exemplary embodiment, the tests made it possible to fix at L a value of the order of five centimeters.
On the front part of the frame 10, there is the vertical arm 15 intended for the anchoring of the hitch 7 articulated on an axis 18. This axis 18 is situated, as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, substantially at the same level as, d on the one hand, the axis 17 of the axle 12 of the front end when it is in the normal normal rolling position, and on the other hand, the hook 6 disposed at the rear part of the truck. This arrangement allows in particular a better transmission of forces between the trailer and the truck through the hitch 7 in the normal position.
As shown in Figure 3, the hitch 7 has a substantially triangular shape and is in fact fixed on the vertical arms 15 disposed substantially at the front corner of the frame 10. These arms 15 are attached to the vertical structures 13 which serve as anchoring and in particular of articulation to the suspension system, not shown, of the axle 12.
Also seen in Figure 3, the offset L between the axis of gyration 16 of the slewing ring 11 and the axis 17 of the axle 12. This axis of gyration is located substantially in front of the axis 17 of the 'axle.
