 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

  This auxiliary patent for an auxiliary device intended to independently support and move a dual-mode road-rail wagon.

  In the transport sector, the use of dual-mode wagons or semi-trailers is particularly advantageous, in fact these means of transport can be used either on the road or on rail.

  As far as the rail transport solution is concerned, the semi-trailers are coupled together using only a hitch bogie, well arranged, and provided with articulations and other devices allowing transport on railway tracks of a train so obtained.

  These solutions, which are considered to be the most functional, can have drawbacks when it is necessary to move a single wagon, for example in the event of a breakdown of one of its devices, or when it is necessary to divide the train into several sections to board them on a ferry boat.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 In fact, when the wagons described above have to be separated, the end of the wagon from which the bogie has been removed no longer has support and cannot be transported alone unless using lifting vehicles, which are unsuitable not at all in these cases and which is difficult to find.

  In order to overcome the abovementioned drawbacks, an auxiliary device has been designed to allow one, or more wagons of the same train to be supported, moved and moved at a reduced speed towards a railway branch line, or to board them on a ferry boat, and in general to move them whenever they have to be moved independently.

  The auxiliary device according to the present invention is easy to execute and adapts to all kinds of dual mode wagons inexpensively, or it can be obtained directly on a lower spar of a wagon, the spar in question being suitably arranged -so as to form a sole with the auxiliary device.

  The invention relates to an auxiliary device for a dual-mode wagon, characterized in that it essentially comprises a vertical shaft, adjustable in height and carrying a wheel at its lower part, a wheel which has a rail profile; the vertical shaft in question is placed in a seat of a lower spar of a wagon and presents a rack which can be reached and driven by a control mechanism so that the wheel in question can be raised or lowered in order to touch or not to touch

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 rails ; a special tilting foot is provided to support the wagon on a flat surface.

  The invention will be better understood from the following description given by way of nonlimiting example of the invention itself as well as from the attached drawing in which: - Figure 1 shows a schematic side view of an auxiliary device as a whole following this
 EMI3.1
 invention, the auxiliary device being adapted to a lower beam of a wagon; - Figures 2 and 3 show a dual-mode wagon in a normal displacement situation and in an unforeseen situation during transport at reduced speed; - Figure 4 shows a side view of the entire wheel with a tiltable foot; and - Figure 5 shows a schematic front view of it
 EMI3.2
 this. Referring to the accompanying drawing, the number 1 indicates an auxiliary device as a whole according to the present invention.

  The auxiliary device essentially comprises a vertical shaft 2, adjustable in height, as described below.

  A wheel 3 with a rail profile is mounted at the lower end of the vertical shaft 2 and pivots at 4 on vertical shoulders 5.

  A support or foot 6 also pivots in 4 and can be overturned as seen in Figure 4. The foot 6 is used to support a wagon or a semi-trailer when it is necessary to place the semi-trailer on a flat surface as in

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 the usual operations to connect it to a tractor on the road or detach it. The foot 6 can be locked in the raised position by means of a latch 7 which can be inserted through a fixed shoulder seat 8 and a loop 9 arranged on one side of the foot itself.

  The vertical shaft 2 can slide to a certain extent in a chassis 10 of a lower spar 11 of a dual-mode wagon (see FIG. 1). The sliding of the shaft can be done through) a rack 12 which is fixed to the shaft itself and which is driven by a kinematic group 13 provided with an endless screw or other suitable control mechanism.

  The displacement of the shaft 2, caused by the mechanism in question, makes it possible to raise or lower the wheel 3 until the wheel proper touches the railway 14.

  FIGS. 2 and 3 show how a dual-mode wagon 15, provided with the auxiliary device described, can also be moved independently at a reduced speed as well as being normally transported on a railway bogie. In fact, it suffices to lower the device 1 which serves as an auxiliary bogie.
