Complete specification for the invention entitled: "CONNECTION DEVICE FOR TELECOMMUNICATIONS" The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to us 1 To: THE COMMISSIONER OF PATENTS fir. of. DA (a member of the firm of DAVIES COLLISON for and on behalf of the Applicant).

2 telecommunications.
3 4 Known connection devices include terminal strips placed on the rows of lugs of an assembly bow, with jack strips 6 associated with the terminal strips, there being electrical 7 connections between knife-edge terminal contacts of the 8 terminal strips and contacts of the jack strips.
9 A connecting device of the generic type is already 11 known from the KRONE advertising pamphlet "Rapid connection 12 techniques". In this connecting device the terminal strips 13 are placed on the rows of lugs of an assembly bow. A jack 14 strip is screwed on to the bottom surface of the assembly bow. Further jack strips are secured to separate U-bows.
16 Multi-pin connecting elements can be inserted into the jack 17 strips. The contacts of the jack strips are electrically 18 connected with the knife-edge terminal contacts. For this 19 purpose a plurality of cables is installed beneath the assembly bow and connected to a series of knife-edge o a 21 terminal contacts of each of the terminal strips and to 22 contacts of the associated jack strips. The outgoing cable 23 conductors are connected to a second row of knife.-edge 24 terminal contacts of each terminal strip. On the insertion tot 25 of a multi-pin plug into a jack strip an electrical 26 connection is established between the cable conductors of 27 the multi-pin plug and the outgoing cable conductors of the 28 associated terminal strip. On the withdrawal of the plug 29 this connection is broken again.
31 A disadvantage here is that the connection between each 32 terminal strip and the associated jack strip must be 33 produced with a plurality of cable conductors. In the case 34 of a 50-pin plug it would therefore be necessary to install and connect 50 cable conductors. There is, moreover, the 36 disadvantage that 50 knife-edge terminal contacts are wired 37 to the terminal strip, so that no outgoing cable conductors r .9OOTGC025,LET,ed83187.rcs,t 9 10Acnetn evc ftegnri yei led 11- know fro the' KRN detsn aphe Rpd neto the first application.......... made in a Convention country in respect of the invention the subject of the application.

-2can be connected to these contacts.
The invention is therefore based on the problem of providing a connecting assembly in which electrical connections between knife-edge terminal contacts of a terminal strip and contacts of one or more associated jack strips are produced in a simple manner and in which all knife-edge terminal contacts of the jack strip can then be available for outgoing cable conductors.
According to the present invention, there is provided a connecting assembly for use in telecommunications, in use, providing electrical connection between knifeedge terminal contacts of a terminal strip and contacts of a jack strip, comprising a support member having opposed pairs of lugs, a terminal strip which can be supported on at least one pair of said opposed pairs of lugs, and a circuit board having connection holes therethrough which provide Q 0 15 electrical connection to a common conductive track on the circuit board, wherein at 0 least one knife-edge terminal contact of said terminal strip and at least one contact S a of said jack strip are provided with contact pins for insertion in said connection holes 4o o oso as to be electrically connected by means of said track and thereby provide electrical connection between a cable conductor when connected to said at least one knife-edge terminal contact and a multi-pin connecting element when inserted in said jack strip to make contact with the at least one contact thereof.
0 4 o According to embodiments of the invention, conductive tracks of the circuit S° "board form the connections between the knife-edge terminal contacts of the terminal strips and the contacts of the jack strips, so that no connecting cables have to be ,i installed. The connection of the knife-edge terminal contacts of the terminal strips and the contacts of the jack strips to the conductive tracks is conveniently effected by means of contact pins which engage in boreholes in the circuit board electrically connected to each other by way of conductive tracks, 910227,vtsasp.0O(,krane,2 2a Forces which can occur on wiring the knife-edge terminal contacts of the terminal strip cannot, moreover, act on the circuit board in embodiments of the present invention, since the terminal strips are supported on the lugs of the assembly bow.
Further advantageous embodiments of the invention will become apparent from the subsidiary claims.
The invention is explained in greater detail below, by way of example only, by means of an embodiment of a connecting device as shown in the accompanying drawings. (It should be noted that in the following description, the term "conductive plate" is used in place of "circuit board" as referred to above, and "strip conductor" is used in place of conductive track" as referred to above).
00 00o Fig. 1 shows a plan view of the connecting device, Fig, 2 shows a front elevation view of the connecting device, a 0o oo 0 0 9IO227,Vtspc.Q4,knc.3 0 0 9 9 09 9 o 9 9 9

09 9 S-3-1 Fig. 3 shows a side view of the connecting device, Fig. 4 shows a longitudinal section along the line IV-TV in fig. 1 through the conductor plate of the connecting device with the terminal and jack strips in position and Fig. 5 shows a cross-section through a terminal strip.
The connecting device comprises an assembly bow 1 a plurality of terminal strips 2, a plurality of jack strips 3 and a conductor plate 4.
The metal assembly bow 1 is U-shaped and has a plurality of lugs 11 which are disposed in two rows 5, 6. A plurality of terminal strips 2 are locked in each case one beside another on two lugs 11. The terminal strips 2 comprise a lower section 7 and an upper section 8 locking with this, and also knife-edge terminal contacts 9, as described in greater detail in German Patent 28 04 478, to which reference is explicitly made. Unlike the form of the prior art, each knife-edge terminal contact 9 has on one arm 17 a contact pin 10 which protrudes downwards out of the lower section 7 and through the base plate 18.
Below the terminal strip 2 a conductor plate 4 is disposed between the rows 5, 6 of the assembly bow 1. This conductor plate has a plurality of strip conductors 12 with boreholes 14. Beside the terminal strips 2 the jack strips 3 are secured to -the conductor plate 4 by means of screws 13. The jack strips 3 have contacts 15 accessible above which extend downwards as contact pins 16 through the boreholes 1 4 of the conductor plate 4. The knife-edge terminal contacts 9 of the terminal strips 2 are also inserted with their contact pins 10 into boreholes 14 in the conductor plate 4. The boreholes 14 for the contact pins 16 of the jack strips 3 are connected electrically with the associated boreholes 14 for the contact pins 10 of the terminal strips 1 -4by way of the strip conductors 12 of the conductor plate 4.
All contact pins 10, 16 are firmly soldered in the boreholes 14. An electrical connection thus exists between each knifQeedge terminal contact 9 of the terminal strips 2 and the associated contacts 15 of the jack strip 3. Cable conductors, which are not shown, can be connected to the knife-edge terminal contacts 9 of the terminal strip 2. Multi-pin connecting e-Lements, which are not shown, can be inserted into the jack strips 3. By merely inserting or withdrawing the connecting element it is thus possible to effect connections or disconnections of the cable conductors connected in each case to the connecting element and the cable conductors connected to the terminal strip. With a 50-pin connecting element it is thus possible simultaneously to connect or disconnect cable conductors.
The conductor plate 4 has approximately the width of the inner distance between two opposite lugs 11 of the assembly bow 1. The length of the conductor plate 4 corresponds to the length needed to receive the necessary terminal strips 2 and jack strips 3. otherwise, the conductor plate 4 is made of known conductor plate material and provided with the strip conductors 12 necessary for connecting two boreholes 14 together. The conductor plate 4 acts almost like a ribbon cable and now bears the jack strips 3, but not th12 terminal strips 2, which are received exclusively by the lugs 11 of the assembly bow 1 with respect to force. The entire weight ~o of the terminal strips 2 is also supported by the l.ugs 11 00 O of the assembly bow 1. In addition, the forces involved in o the connection of cable conductors to the knife-edge terminal contacts 9 are exerted only on the assembly bow 1, but not on the conductor plate 4.
In, an embodiment which is not shown the jack strips may also be disposed on the Underside of the conductor plate 4. This increases the closeness of the arrangement of terminal strips 2 on the front side of the conductor plate 4 List of reference symbols 1. Assembly bow 2. Terminal strips 3. Jack.strips 4.
