Complete Specification for the invention entitled: IMPROVEMENTS RELATING TO AN ADJUSTABLE DRAINAGE GRATING The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to :US: IIOC)31 3 2 sina- T (ASTRALIA). PTY. LTD.

2- IMPROVEMENTS RELATING TO AN ADJUSTABLE DRAINAGE GRATING The invention relates to a drainage grating and in particular an adjustable grating for a drainage pipe in which the grating is laterally adjustable relative to the pipe axis.
Drainage gratings are commonly used to drain liquid from shower rooms and the like areas, having tiled floors which follow a particular mosiac pattern.
Problems exist in the positioning of such gratings to match the particular pattern of tiles on such floors. An Sinvestigation of prior art records reveals that there have been some attempts made in providing laterally displaceable collars or the like. For example, German laid open specification Nos. 33 28 613 and 30 20 634. Also we refer to U.S. patent specification Nos. 3,593,347 relating to a 15 renovating method for a bath tub; No. 4,207,632 disclosing an intermediate collar member to interconnect a drain for a Ishower stall and a waste pipe.
U.S. Patent No. 2,121,984 discloses an S eccentrically mounted drain connection member for locating a shower outlet and the waste pipe. The prior art known to Applicant suffers from a lack of flexibility of adjustability, and/or complexity.
The principal objective of the present invention is S to provide a laterally adjustable drainage grating which is relatively simple to construct and yet provides good flexibility in its end use. Specifically, the present invention seeks to overcome the problem of positioning the grating to match the tile pattern on the floor whilst maintaining modification or re-shaping of the tiles to match the grating to a minimum.
There is provided according to the present invention a drainage grating assembly, comprising means for attachment thereof to the mouth of the drain, means for supporting a grating across the mouth of said drain, said drain-attachment means and said grating-support means being interconnected via opposed, centrally-apertured, A l\ I It 1 3 facially-engaging plate-members, arranged normal to the axis of said drain and mounted one on each of said members so that said grating-support means and said drain-attachment means are capable within limits of being shifted laterally with respect to each other in a plane normal to the axis of said drain without interferring with fluid flow between the grating and the drain.
There is also provided by the present invention in an adjustable drain connection comprising a grating support member mounted on a flanged annular collar member supported adjacent to a waste pipe outlet, the improvement comprising, annular support means adapted to releasably receive said i flango collar member whereby said collar member is moveable i in a lateral plane relative to the waste pipe outlet and i fixing means for securing the collar means in an area of support provided by said annular support means, the I arrangement being such that the grating support member is locatable over an area which is equivalent to the area spanned by the annular support means, 20 The invention will be described in greater detail having reference to the accompanying drawings in which Fig.
1 shows a sectional side view of a fitted adjustable drainage grating.
Fig. 2 shows a plan view of the grating in rectangular form.
A base member 1 is supported about a drainage pipe preferably sealed by a resiliant O-ring seal 4.
A peripheral support member 2 is bolted to the base by bolts 6. The support member 2 includes a removable annular plate member 3 adapted to form a slot 3a. in which a collar member 11 is supported. The slot 3a, allows lateral movement of the collar so that the collar may be laterally Sadjusted relative to the centre line 15 of the support base and pipe associated therewith.
The collar 11 is threaded to accept a drainage grate support 12 which receives grating ~-111 4 Thus the drainage grate 10 can be laterally moved as desired to match any tile patterns on a floor of a shower room or other wet area which requires the drainage of liquid.
Thus the grating can be matched to the tile pattern without the need for costly and sometimes unsightly modification of the tiles to match the grate location. The grate support 12 is adjustable vertically by means of the threaded support collar 11 and also the lateral movement of the grate support member 12 is limited only by the area of support provided by the support member 2 for the flange of the collar member 11.

Claims (5)

  1. 2. An assembly as claimed in Claim i, in which the drain-attachment means includes a skirt, adapted to fit around and rest upon the mouth of said drain.
  2. 3. An assembly as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2, in which the grating support means includes a dished drainage-tray adapted to receive and retain a grating therein.
  3. 4. An assembly as claimed in any of the preceding claims, in which the opposed, facially-engaging plate members are retained in sliding rngagement with each other by releasable retaining means mounted upon a base member. An assembly as claimed in Claim 4, in which the retaining means takes the form of an upstanding flange I arranged around the periphery of the plate member upon the base member, to which flange there is releasably secured an annular cover plate, thus defining a slot between the base member aforesaid and cover plate, within which slot there is retained the periphery of an annular flange upon the support membet serving as the other, opposed facially-interengaging plate member. *0 6
  4. 6. An assembly as claimed in any of the preceding claims, in which the support member includes a collar and a neck-piece threadedly-intergaged with each other, whereby the grating-support member and the base member can be adjusted relative to one another in the axial direction.
  5. 7. A drainage grating assembly, as claimed in any of the preceding claims and substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
