Description

CAUF FOR CONTAINMENT OF LIVE MARINE ANIMALS BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION (Field of the Invention) This invention relates to the containment of Live Marine Animals, and more particularly to the storing of marine animals in their natural environment, the ocean.
0" Usually crustaceans such as crab, crayfish, etc. are stored in Wells or Tanks on fishing vessels at sea level or in tanks in factories above sea level, land based. Due to the fact that fresh water will always sit on top of salt water, keeping crab or crayfish close to the surface always is a high risk of mortalities due to a sudden increase in freshwater or increase- in water temperature.
*tt SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION In order to achieve these objects according to the present invention, the live fish are held at a depth of water to control their metabolism. According to the present invention, live fishes are placed in cages or baskets which are attached to chains which are lowered mechanically to the depth required, which ranges from 4 metres to 60 metres in depth.
Brief description of Drawings The invention, objects and advantages may best be understood with reference to the following detailed description of illustrative embodiments of the present invention shown in the accompanying drawings wherein: Figure 1 is a sectional view of the drive mechanism for the chain, according to the present invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view of the cage or baskets attached to the chain drive mechanism.
Figure 3 is a sectional view of the cage chain mechanism attached to flotation or buoyancy platform, according to the present invention.
Figure 4 is a schematic sectional view showing cages attached to chain mechanism according to.the present invention.
Description of the Preferred Embodiments.
Referring to Figure 1, there is shown the first embodiment of chain gear which runs over rollers 11 and drive sprocket 12, with travel rollers 13 all supported by steel frame construction to allow free travel of chain.
Figure 2 shows the second embodiment of the invention with cages 16 being attached to chain 18 by pin 17 which allows cage to swing freely on chain 18.
The chains 18 travel on rollers 19 which are supported by bearings 20. Both main chains 18 are driven by hydraulic motor 21 evenly through a shaft to chain and sprocket drive 23 and 24.
According to the present invention tension is maintained on the main chains 18 by the weight of the bearing roller assembly 25 and fig. 1. No 14, which is constructed of Heavy steel R.S.J. Frame.
Referring to Figure 3. Travelling cages 26 of the third embodiment of the present invention, is surrounded and supported by a flotation device also fabricated of steel. Travelling chain and cages 26 pass through the centre of lobation tank 26. Tank or Barge is moored to heavy anchors by mooring chain 28. A nylon predator net 29, surrounds all cages as a safety screen against attack by seals or large fish.
Referring to Figure 4. Shows the forth embodiment of the invention where cages 30 are attached to chain 31 and can travel freely from the top to bottom on roller 32 allowing cage to be easily accessible at the water surface, and also maintain crayfish at the desired depth or atmosphere.
The Claims Defining the Invention are as follows: There are two endless chains upon which cages are attached. These run on rollers which enable cages to be raised and lowered to store crayfish and crabs at the desired depth for their metabolism.
This method of storing marine animals enables easy access to each cage by engaging hydraulic motor (21) to bring any desired cage to the water surface.
